[SPEC] Night Skies
Night Skys

Could Super 8 be the new Night skys?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Skies

It makes sence if you think about it... A master of secret J.J. and a project that never was completed or really started...Maybe JJ wanted to see it as a child but it never made it around so he Teamed up with Spielberg to start the project anew...

DISCUSS!!!

From 11 aliens to 5...
TO 8

In mid-1980, Sayles delivered his first (and in the end, only) draft of the screenplay, which featured five aliens (cut down from the original eleven)

Whats between 5 and 11? 8

Whats the coincidence of this?

Please don't abuse font sizes - E

Re: Night Skys

Maybe... but I think not, Night Skys was based off of a family in 1955. Super 8 is in 1979. I think it will be something totally different than what was described for Night Skys. Besides, that was in Kentucky. The train in Super 8 crashed in (or near) Ohio.

Night Skys
Remake

The first one was never done, and the simularities are there, if you read on he reserved space on the space shuttle to record the earth and moon from space for the movie. I think JJ has revamped the movie and this is the basis of it. A perfect movie for JJ and Speilburg to produce together that already has somewhat of a base.

Both are horror films
Both are Space related
First scene of trailer is space sky
Cant be under the same names, Night Skys has already been made a movie (unrelated)
It was going to be a prequel of Close encounters of the third kind
Third kind has a train crash in it
When a despairing Roy inadvertently sees a television news program about a train wreck near Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming,
Super 8 is a mix of these 2 movies...

That doesn't mean anything, movies can have the same name. "Film titles cannot be copyrighted" http://slate.msn.com/id/2118602/fr/rss/

Second "Night Skies" is E.T.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Skies#Origin_of_E.T.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083866/releaseinfo#akas See the last one listed.

Kentucky fits in this

I didn't know about Night Skies, but the newspaper could be a hint: minor articles refer to crossings (like in train crossing) and to a farmer in Kentucky. Just a coincidence? Might signal "watch for a train crossing in Kentucky"?

Night Skies was brought up earlier on but this thread just made me remember something. Years ago I bought a copy of the Night Skies script but never got around to reading it. I'll have to dig it out and give it a read when I find the time for it.

I have a feeling this is a dead end but for the time being any leads are good leads.

I don't think there's any reason this can't be Night Skies, or at least heavily inspired by Night Skies.

I definitely see the plot of "Super 8" being reminiscent of it. Aliens come to terrorize a farmer and family and he must defend his home. "Straw Dogs with aliens".

Think about it: Aliens escape the train wreck, find a farmer and his family, and try to get in the house.

You all just wait. Some day you're going to read this thread (and my hastily posted and badly trouted first ever post) and realize we were right.

Re: Night Skys
Night Skys

Great Idea, I think it's very possible. The script could have been re-written or updated for a more up to date setting. Or could it be possible that Spielberg didn't quite feel right with the original script and wanted complete something that has sat with him for a long time (unfinished business) and called upon JJ to finish what he had started so long ago?

Lol, sorry but wouldn't "near" Ohio be Kentuky?

I believe NIGHT SKIES never got made because on the 2nd rewrite by Melissa Matheson, she basically flipped the story around, turning it from the aliens search for their lost buddy to telling the story from the lost alien's point of view, and also sweetening up the story away from its original scary tone.

This article on CHUD is largely a reiteration of the NIGHT SKIES entry on Wiki, or vice versa, but I believe the general transformation process of NS to ET is accurate.

I can see how NIGHT SKIES would be another and possibly good influence in SUPER 8, but I think JJ has a broader aim across many Spielberg films to focus on just his one unproduced alien story.

Considering Night Skies was to be a sequel to Close Encounters and ended up become E.T., you're basically left with it just being a general concept that found life (as noted in the wiki article) in many of the works Spielberg had a hand in. I certainly wouldn't label this 'the completion of Night Skies', although it may be the closest thing to it in the end.
