nice work morbus

Sounds like we're gonna need some master sound manipulators. Slow it down, speed it up, play it backwards, etc. etc.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
8 notes. I sorted them by pitch, but that's the most I can do without the ability to identify the notes by ear.

maybe if we can find what each of the notes are there may be a message in it?

This may open a clue to the "DEVICE."

is anyone able to extract that file and break it down into each individual note? that way we could use an instrument tuner to find each one.. i'll give it a go with just the normal sound file.

EDIT: hmm, yeah, this isn't working Confused

Braegen 14 disk drives could allow Editing to be performed at sample accuracy (i.e., 1/50,000 of a second); any mixing was performed digitally.
what if all that needs be done is speed up the notes. The end sound of the recording sounds like it was played in slow motion.

Saved Sound

I've kind of been lurking here until now, but I've managed to extract the soundfile! I've attached it to this post.

I'll try to upload a sped-up version, too... Not sure if it'll reveal anything, though. I think the best bet would be to either identify the pitches, or the notes.

Speaking of Close Encounters..... I watched it on Blu-ray the other day, and it was pretty creepy how much of the trailer was in the movie. Also I could of sworn I saw a picture of Gordon Cooper in there........

How was the file extracted? I know it can be extracted from Flash but doubtful that the PMs intended for us to do that.

Oh thank goodness. I've been trying to capture this blasted file for like an hour with varying levels of failure. Stupid work computer. Argh.

Can each of these "notes" be attached to a letter of the alphabet??..or a number..

I slowed and sped up the audio with NO luck in "hearing" anything. I am not a music guy so I leave the rest in your hands now.

Sounds like some of them are the same to me, but my ear might just not be as good.

I've sped up the audio (without changing pitch), and removed the gaps in audacity. My results are attached to THIS post. Although, I'm not sure if it really changes anything you can hear in the sound...

@vaspor I DID extract the file from the swf, but it would be just as easy to set your computer's recording device to the output of the speakers (this can be done via the sound settings, or by taking a cable from the headphones jack to the microphone jack). Extracting it from the SWF was just easier for me at the moment.
