Does anyone remember the name of the guy they credited in Close Encounters who invented the music to hand symbols language for those famous notes?
Think it was something like Kiraly ..
You dont suppose they are going back to that well are they?

I have not seen that movie in a LONG time, however I think you are on to something.

the hand signs in close encounters were developed by Zoltan Kodaly.
he was a composer and a linguist.

I'm also reminded of Contact, with the signal received via sat and analyzed, finding layers of data.

The problem here is... well technically, it's a 112kbps MP3, which means compression and lack of data integrity, which means no high detail digital coding in the audio data. My guess is its purpose is either (somewhat) visual or strictly audio (tones, relative frequencies, etc)

The other possibility (which I'd hate) is that there's nothing to do with this just yet. Perhaps we weren't expected to find the audio so quickly and they haven't rolled out the rest yet.

However the interface was updated last night - so it's been almost a full date, and surely they're watching for community updates and news.

In short, I dunno what to do now... Razz

^^Thanx for that.. Doesnt look like much there..

Troubling this is, are we supposed to use 1977 technology to solve this or do they expect us to use current tricks available today?
Kinda splits the duty in two..

They used 5 tones in Close Encounters, which were broadcast into space, they received a series of numbers as response which turn out to be the coordinates of Devil's Tower where the mothership landed.

5 tones music file:

Musicians count in halftones.
I was "strumming" along the tune with my guitar. If I use the lowest note as 0; I'd say the counting in halftones would be 1,6,1,8,0,3,3,10. Just another number Smile.

Sound
Sound

Im really low tech with this stuff but a DSI can minipulate all sorts of sounds...From what I hear playing i backwords at high is that a sound is interfering with what we need to hear...im going to play around with it more but some sounds look like a distraction

i had another thought, maybe this could be a massively warped version of, say a rocket poppeteers advert. the whoosh at the end does sound like a kid of classic space ship noise. this would also explain the lack of patter we've found thus far.
i realize this is probably a completely stupid suggestion and if so, sorry to have wasted your time Very Happy

What really irritates me is that I'm sure I've heard these tones before... I just can't remember from where Crying or Very sad Sorry. I first I thought it was from the Slusho Site...

<edit> I think the sounds are from the movie Forbidden Planet.
