LOST Finale: I cried.

Depending on whether the clock reads 'AM' or 'PM' I have too much caffeine or alcohol in my system for my emotional center to function, but the 'Lost' finale broke right through my drug-induced stupor. I cried happy tears of happiness, then tried to save face by politely explaining I had a sudden onset allergies.

As for the Fringe finale...I mostly just annoyed. Without giving anything away, the show seems to be peeling away from its X-File-y roots and becoming something much less interesting. In addition:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I particularly hate it when a series FINALLY thrusts the male and female lead together, relieving some romantic tension and giving the viewers a glimmer of happiness and then somehow cheaply separating the two. It just creates a 'hook' with complications, not plot. Pretty crumby in my humble opinion.

Yep. I enjoyed the finale of Fringe for the execution and slow release of information, but you're spot on, creating a love interest, simply to forward a story, and create a dramatic plot-twist as a result (don't want to say anything more spoilerish.) Just seems a little lazy and dickish. I liked the season finale, but it wasn't the end-all be-all. Just more T.V. by the numbers. But Alt-Olivia is somehow much hotter, lol.

Stop wanting it to be X-Files, because it's not. I for one am glad it's not. I hated X-Files with a passion, probably in part because the fans I knew were shall we say a bit less than scholarly or broad of family tree. It's tone and style was definitely different.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is getting close to it's end. Flash Forward is over, V is done for the season, and as already mentioned Fringe is wrapped until the fall. I really need Super 8 to get rolling and Flynn Lives to get back from break. Caprica is also in suspended animation.

Meanwhile, I've got RvB for a bit longer and hopefully not too much beyond that, Top Gear. Oh, and a dozen discs worth of Blu-ray on the way.

are you saying all x fans are that way? or just people you knew? not that it matters either way but if u meant all x file fans thats just a incorrect statement and could be said about fringe lost or any mainstream show

i enjoyed the V and flashforward finale flashforward i thought was great all season everything is over till fall not much to watch im just waiting for true blood and dexter to return

I guess I kind of put my foot in my mouth there by comparing it to X-Files. I prefer the (as you put it) 'scholarly' tone of Fringe to the false drama in X-Files (are there aliens? Are there not aliens? Is Scully finally going to acknowledge the paranormal this week?). 'Fringe' seems a lot darker too, which I like. However, I did like the 'Fringe' formula of 'investigation with a little plot arc progression' better than its most recent arc. Not that I mind it when shows break from their formula, going to all plot or all formula (especially around the finale), but 'Fringe' seemed to take what made the first season great and pitch it out the window. that might just be a matter of taste.

Another gripe that I had with the 'Fringe' finale is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
That they just sort of flashed a paper at Peter and all of a sudden he was totally kosher with returning to the regular universe. I guess he, being a genius, might have gotten more out of the paper than the viewer could, but it almost seemed like Olivia could have written 'don't do this- it will destroy my universe!' on a computer paper and told him "Oh yes an Observer gave me this. Of course."

The first season of Fringe was a lot of formula and not a lot of long term story arc. It grew the long term arc in fairly small bits, until near the end. Since then it's been much more involved in the long term story arc and not the per episode formula. I would honestly like to see an episode or two that really were 'red herrings' in terms of the longer arc, but followed a little of the episodic mystery solving formula of the early shows.

Oh, and I know exactly how I'd mark it as a non-arc episode before the end of the episode itself.

Agree about your analysis of the 'Fringe' formula/plot arc. Maybe they'll oscillate back and forth a little more in the upcoming season between plot and mystery-solving, and then we can both be happy? Personally, I'd also like to see some more 'stand alone' episodes that didn't involve the main characters as much, like the one about the woman and her Observer. (personally, I thought that was a pretty sweet episode, and not just in the 'radical!' sense...)
