ARG + LARP?
Help with ARG elements

Hi I run a low-key casual Live-Action Role-Play game. We've been running strong now for a good few years, but lately some of the older long-term players have become disinterested/bored. One of the other staffers and myself concocted a bold idea of mixing ARG elements into our LARP to make it more immersive and less predictable. So far a lot of the players have been really digging it. The problem is I'm running short on ideas for plot hooks, props, etc to place into the game environment.

We play in a small few square blocks, not unlike the mainstream of a small town, from 8:00pm to midnight. Does anyone have any ideas of real life ARG elements that would mesh well with a LARP?

I'd suggest looking into cryptozoo.ning.com and topsecret.ning.com -- both projects have "do-it-anywhere" type activities that could easily transfer into the LARPing space, given the right story framework.

Beyond that, I'd look to puzzle-hunt type quests -- you can use chalk to "tag" locations for significance.

Finally, look into some of the immersive LARP work The Company P has done (I'm thinking Momentum).

http://nordiclarptalks.org/ could also be a good resource.

Thanks so much Notgordian. I haven't had time to look at them all yet but the first too cryptozoo.ning.com and topsecret.ning.com are little less serious than what I'm aiming for.

But when I get a chance I'll check out the other stuff - maybe it'll be a little closer to what I'm looking for.

The LARP takes place in a dystopia type world and the players are primarily engaging in serious and grim mysteries. Conspiracies, homicide, secret cults - that type of stuff.

If you are going to have "realistic" props (people acting as dead bodies, people dressed as officers and such) you might want to let you local officials know you are running a game in the area so that you don't accidently set off alarms or get players/organizers into a comedy of errors with them.

We've been running for a few years and have a good relationship with the local law enforcement. Actually our OOC meet-up is right outside the police office/city hall.

Cool! Always good to have the local professionals on your side.
