I agree with you, Frost, in that those numbers seem obviously added to the image — they don't seem to change or 'react' to either the camera motion (changing perspective) or the apparent shape of the pole/beam.

If the numbers physically existed on the pole/beam, the angles as they bend around the surface/corner would change considerably, deforming the numbers. Yet the numbers stay consistently shaped and legible throughout the shot. And this is a good 10-15' dolly or truck in from start to finish of this fade-capped shot.

Agreed this seems to be a deliberate clue. It'll take a bigger brain than mine to make sense of it, considering how many have tried so far!

This is my first ARG, I'm just a sci-fi nut who wants to see a good alien flick. I didn't know how in depth these games were, or what lengths a film company would go to in creating them.

After checking in here, I'm starting to think I've been a little close-minded to some of the clues that are probably still in the stuff we have to play with.

Has anyone found info from Kodak that could identify when the red "Exposure info" was used on films like that? I would think Kodak probably changes their markings alot, whether color, or font or what have you?

No, I don't think anyone has. Good idea.

Re: PDP-11 = 47
You've gotta expect the 47's

For those new to Jbrams or his work, those of us from Alias, Star Trek, et al, know that he hides 47's in ALL of his projects, shows, etc. Smile I'm just analyzing the sites today since its my first day off, but wanted to go ahead and document this out there.

Nice to have a secret Jbrams project back in the works (insert *eek* here).

Since i didnt like Alias,Fringe,or Lost I was unaware of this tidbit. So thanks for the heads-up.Smile

This pic should put to rest the I-Beam/wooden pole argument. It is actually a part of the track or rail. As you can see in the picture that the right rail is bent up at an angle. This is the same item our mysterious markings are on. So it's not a wooden pole or railway marker or technically not even an I beam. Now if it is still a deliberate clue we need to figure out what it is. I have no idea why anyone would mark a train rail in that fashion? Maybe the answer to that is out there to be found? At least we know now it's not a mile marker.

Wait, it's the track bent up? I didn't realise that. I gotta look again.

If it is then the markings are even more of a clue I would say.

They definitely shove it right in our faces in the trailer.

Anyone see any numbers etched on the siding below the pole/RRtie with the numbers on it?

I think the letters actually say 21I70.64. That looks like an uppercase I in the middle to me.

Also, just studied the trailer for a while and that doesn't look like Ohio to me.

Maybe something about I-70?

OK here's a thought... Maybe we are making the numbers on this pole more then they are, what I see is i 21 + 70.64 so... we end up with i 91.64. When I tried to Google search i 91.64 the first result I got was a link to this site and the Google summary below their link says "Beyond, at the curb, was a second dark sedan inside could be seen the silhouettes of other men, and the glow 91.64.176.91 of a lighted cigarette - other men ..." but I'm still at work and the site is blocked so I can't follow up.

<edit> or maybe 91.64 can be tied to the golden ratio found in the sound file.

I actually think it looks a lot like where I grew up in Ohio. There are flat areas and then area's with rolling hills. Another thing that reminds me of home in this clip are the lights in the background. Most small towns in Ohio have some type of Mill or Cement plant as seen in the background in this screen shot and you could see them from a fair distance away at night.[/list]

It's the vegetation and the dirt that looks wrong to me, particularly around the truck and train tracks. I used to live in Dayton, OH, by the way (where Wright Patt AFB is, in the suburb of Kettering).

But I've traveled all over, a lot, and that looks like either southwestern Illinois or northern Missouri to me.

Which is entirely possible...maybe the truck came from Ohio, from Wright Patt even, with the purpose of stopping the train before it got there, because the driver had a good sense of what was going to happen when it did (i.e., nothing good).

I just don't want everyone too certain that the train wreck location is in Ohio.

Although I-70 runs right through Dayton, too...

P.S. No one else, if you look at the numbers on the rail (I think it's the rail, not a pole) while watching the trailer instead of looking at the stills, thinks that middle symbol is a capital I?

Your right, on the close ups the dirt and grass does look a bit odd. Perhaps it's because it's digitally created? I also agree that it may not even be Ohio and the western edge of the Midwest does fit the look. It's just hard to ignore the talk on the radio of WP and the Ohio tag and not make that connection.

My uncle lived behind the K Mart on Woodman. He and my dad worked at the Delco plant on Woodman Ave. My other uncle live on 3rd Street. We would go to the Jack's Aquarium on Smithville to check out the giant Piranha they had. That was a long time ago my friend.
