6:29 Axon Charlotte, NC

Attempted this one again this morning.
06:29 PDT
35.228118 -080.841573

There are two phone kiosks near this point. I tried one of them yesterday with no call. I tried the other today and got no call. I tested them for incoming calls and they all work. There are some bars that might have payphones near this point, but they are not open at 9:29 AM. Some other city is going to need to finish off surgery, because this axon is staying cold.

Since when do you have to be a grad student to get into a medical school. I have friends at university now doing medicine at the ages of 19/20/21. OK, maybe they're only in nursing, but they still study the nervous system, anatomy etc.

Based on the latest clips, I think we can now establish that Kamal is no longer just a medical student. In its_a_chicken.wav, Kamal says, "I finished med school; how hard can cooking be?"

(Which does, incidentally, mean that he is probably older than 21, and thus that Jan is probably not his long-lost sister Yasmin. Dunno )

the one in Sedelia

I don't live in Sedelia, so it will be a long early drive to get there before 9am tomorrow. I serched to see if any one reported on what they found at previous rounds of calls. I would apreciate any info on that axon that isn't apparent from the maps. Looks like the last chance for Thin Kinkle. If I am wrong in this assumption, PLEASE let me know.

12:27 SF axon

12:27 - HOT
My friend and I got there with about 15 min to spare. There was a whole lot of construction (on a Sunday) and, what appeared to be, a Hell's Angels meeting with LOUD motorcycles. The time came, and there was no ring. So I picked up the phone on the right....dial tone. Phone on the left...Melissa! Fortunately there was enough of a break in all the noise for Melissa to hear and accept my answer. I've been saying the answer twice all this week, and so far I haven't had Melissa reject me. I think Maizen said he answered this axon two days in a row but Melissa did not accept his answer those times. Heard the s_typhi sound clip, repeated twice, said continue, same "I love bees" stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary to report. One more closer to 777!

Don't rule this out though, because according to the story Kamal is a very bright person. Unless he explicitly says his age, we can't really say. Plus, keep in mind that the rules of the world we now have don't exactly apply to how people live in this story. They have food synthesizers, chatters, and regular space flight.

Remaining two Michigan axons

I actually tried them Friday, but couldn't remark about them until now - I had a drill weekend to get through first. Razz

#1 10:53 PST (1:53 EST) - no good. No outdoor pay phones anywhere near that corner, and the only non-residential building nearby is 997 Old Perch Road - the local swim club facility. It's closed for the season, so, if the phone's in there, no one's answering until the summer.

#2 11:33 PST (2:33 EST) - there's a good possibility here, but I couldn't drive from the first to the second in time. Sad The phone appears to be at a sports facility with its own little drive right off of Farmington Road - I was a bit intimidated to check with the desk clerk just inside, however. LEAVE EARLY TO GET THIS AXON - the area's a bit of a mess to drive through.

Last hurrah for this fable?

We made some major progress today on getting those last few .wav files unlocked. Only 3 remain, and each requires just a single axon to be made hot. Here are the axons for those files that have been successfully made hot in previous rounds (and an accompanying table):

Austin, Minnesota (6:11, surgery.wav)
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6:15, surgery.wav)
Baltimore, Maryland (6:35, zip_your_shirt.wav)
New York, New York (6:39, zip_your_shirt.wav, phone seems broken now)
Sedalia, Missouri (10:59, thin_kinkle.wav)
Minneapolis, Minnesota (11:01, thin_kinkle.wav)

Of course, there are other axons for each of these files that are new, but that does not mean that someone couldn't make one of them work for each file. If you are located at:

Carrolton, Georgia (6:17, surgery.wav)
Salt Lake City, Utah (6:21, surgery.wav)
Petersburg, Virgina (6:23, surgery.wav)
Emmaus, Pennsylvania (6:25, surgery.wav)
Washington, District of Columbia (6:27, surgery.wav)
Charlotte, North Carolina (6:29, surgery.wav)

Williamsburg, Virginia (6:43, zip_your_shirt.wav)
Weirton, West Virginia (6:45, zip_your_shirt.wav)
Lewiston, Idaho (6:47, zip_your_shirt.wav)
Wise, North Carolina (6:49, zip_your_shirt.wav)
Fairfax, Virginia (6:51, zip_your_shirt.wav)
Flint, Michigan (6:53, zip_your_shirt.wav)

Lafayette, Louisiana (10:55, thin_kinkle.wav)
Los Angeles, California (11:07, thin_kinkle.wav)
San Diego, California (11:09, thin_kinkle.wav)
Moscow, Idaho (11:11, thin_kinkle.wav)
New Orleans, Louisiana (11:13, thin_kinkle.wav)
Charlotte, North Carolina (11:15, thin_kinkle.wav)

then you have a shot at getting a very important new axon hot tomorrow. You might just become a celebrated Beekeeper hero for the last minute save! And before I get a chorus of boos for posting this easily accessible info (last time this round, I promise Wink ), let me state my intention: There is a small chance that someone in one of these places who has not been paying attention will read this post and then go out and save the day. Also, I know some of you have been dilligently trying to get some of these axons hot all week ... believe me, I know how you feel, and I (like countless others I'm sure) appreciate your efforts Smile .

I can try for the 11:15 Tomorrow. I disregarded it before due to the time (I have to leave work to get it).

Unfortunately, Marq found the phone intended for 06:29 to be missing.
Here's my reasoning. I've answered 5 Axon calls downtown. All phone kiosks have two phones side by side. Each time, the phone on the right was
the one which rang. When Marq went to the coordinates, the phone on the right was missing.

Detailed info or no, I'm going to head for the 11:01 thin_kinkle early tomorrow and scout my ass off... maybe my GF just missed the right spot.

I wish I could hit the 6:11 surgery tomorrow too, but Austin is 2 hours away, and I'd have to tack on at least another half-hour for scouting. If there are any MN beekeepers reading this, please try to hit this one.

I hope I can make it. I have a meeting from 1:00-2:00 (EST) with a bunch of people who love to flap their gums over insignificant trivialities.
If it runs late, I'm hosed.

What happens now?

So, now that 06:30 PDT has come and gone on the day before the axons get changed, and surgery is NOT, I repeat NOT, hot. What do we do? Will it get repeated in the next round? Will we have to do without one .wav file? Will the PMs give it to us for free?

Discuss.

Potenntially Missed Wav

Honestly I would hope that the Pms don't give it to us for free - if they did, then what would keep us going to make sure all went hot - just get a good number of them, then they'll getopened up anyway.

My [SPEC] is that only the active ones will be archived, and the non-active ones will continue to ring.

Do any of the coords of the missed wav match up with coords from the preview? If they don't the phone may keep ringing, if they do, then my bet is we'll get a freebie.

--- side note, looks like I got my wish of more axons in MASS, unfortuantely though all the new ones are technically in boston, they are all at points so far away from where I am that I will not be able to help during the work day. ---

I hoping our insurgent might be able to spy for us and get the info or make it into one of the secret axons. Has anyone written SP to tell her you would be at a spot for sure?

I have. No response yet, although I just did it late Saturday.
Guess I'll find out on Tuesday at the latest.
