 [SPEC] Copyright 2002
Remote View 2.7

We have easily established that the train derailment happened in 1979. We do know for sure that the copyright on the PDP-11 Simulator is 1977. One thing that I have not seen is a discussion on the year 2002. Are we following someone in 2002 that is researching the incidents of 1977-79?

This is based on the load screen from ScariestThingIEverSaw.com

I have been lurking from the begining. If this is found to be a duplicate conversation, please delete this.

Did everyone decide on 1979? I thought there was still debate?

PDP-11 Simulator
1977

We do know for sure that the copyright on the PDP-11 Simulator is 1977. I should have specified that in the original post, if 1979 is still under discussion.

While we dont know the year the film is set in, we assume from the words in the trailer that this accident in 1979 is the catalyst that starts the 'monster on the loose' .. when this happens, at the beginning, middle or even near the end, is something that we will just have to wait and see.. But it seems highly doubtful that if Thingy escaped in 1979 that it would take 23 years before the story could be told.. unless the whole film is done in flashback mode...
Too soon to tell..

I think that the only real significance of 2002 is that we can safely assume that the desktop which we are viewing is in our present time (or at least a time in the recent past). The remote view software was copyrighted in 2002 but it could easily be a present day computer using software created in 2002.

For an example, try opening some of the programs installed on your computer and look at the splash screen. You will likely see copyright dates from years past. On my system, I have Roxio installed and it's splash screen says copyright 1998-2006.

So the date I think is only significant in the sense that it places the desktop in the modern era.
