Eleven and/or Frost, if you want to start the poll, please do!
I don't think I can, now that I'm not the creator. I wouldn't know how to anyway. =]
Hummina-hummina-hummina!
Didn't you guys say you wanted to figure out a top 10 first anyways?

Right... but if YOU'RE going to start the poll, then the players need to PM their submissions to you, not me.
OT: I've waited to avoid jinxing it, but I haven't gotten the White Screen o' Death in over a day now, I think. Every new post brings me right where it should, and waiting a sec takes me back to the topic with my post added.
Huzzah and brownies all around! and some stroopwafels for good measure

Something to note about how canonical names are:
The monster in Cloverfield was dubbed Mister Grumpy Pants (MGP) basically by accident on these forums. The 'official' name used by the film's crew was Clover, although in the fictional world of the film itself the only name really given to the monster is the Large Scale Aggressor, or LSA.
Right now for Super 8, we've got nothing. I think it would just be fun and more effective if we try to come up with a 'pet name' for it now.

If Frost (as thread owner) is doing the poll, my pet name entry is 'Lionel'.

The thread was actually started by Eleven72, but due to the way post merging works based on timestamps of posts, Mr Frost's post ends up first. It was split from the other thread where I suggested a need for this thread.
Looking back on the thread thus far, I see Lionel, Betty, and Ocho as strong candidates for a name. We have a few boxcar related names (Willie, Jack, and Boxey), but those haven't really coalesced into anything substantial. I don't really see Alf being viable, as it is already a character name for an alien and if what comes out of that boxcar is Alf, I'm going to mail JJ a box of cat hair every month for the rest of his life.
With a big freaking on it, of course.

Is Betty coming from Kung Pow: Enter the Fist?
Betty(Master Pain):"Gentlemen, from this day forward, you will all refer to me by the name 'Betty'. Myya ha ha ha"
Chosen One:"But...Isn't 'Betty' a womans name?"

Well I still think it makes more sense to start a new thread for the "official" poll. Consider this thread to be for "qualification" or like we discussed, have people PM their official entries.

Ok so, since we're gonna start a new thread for the official poll, I'll wait til later tonight to see if Eleven72 wants to do the honors.
Theres an option for the OP to add a poll/choices/duration when they start a new thread so 11/72 should find it easy to do.
If not, I'll step up and create it. If anyone has any more submissions, I would suggest posting them as soon as you can. Post in this thread and we'll grab the top 3 , 5 , or 10 and close the nominations.
This sound decent?

The GIF is a lie.
(No, I didn't make the offer, nor do I have the power to permit such a thing.)

Ok so my official entry is "Sabo". Why?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Sabo
Mostly because Michael Sabo escaped a maximum security prison in 1979 but also because his life story was considered by Stephen Spielberg (apparently for a movie, sources unknown).

I think the film they were considering basing on Sabo's exploits is Catch Me if You Can , which in the end was based on the exploits of Frank Abagnale .
