Thank you so much for the prompt and informative response, Imbri!!! It sucks all that crap is happening, I know you have been putting forth great effort with everything.

It also helps to know what is going on, and since you aren't obligated to fill us in on all those mucking details, i'm always super grateful that you do Smile

Hey, is anyone organizing the museum this year? Are folks planning to bring stuff for it?

Now that y'all are in the loop with The Great Hotel Tease of 2010, I figured I'd keep you apprised of what's going on.

I still have not heard from that hotel. Not that I know what I'd say if I did.

I am doing site visits with two different hotels today (one this morning, one this afternoon). This morning's hotel would be great if they can come in at or below our budget. The hotel this afternoon is a bit further away than I'd like, but may be more reasonable... we shall see. The next step, after this, is to get and compare their quotes. I should have those by mid-week. Then we sign on the dotted line. If things go smoothly, we could know by the end of next week. But, as we've learned, we cannot expect them to go smoothly, so please keep your fingers crossed Smile

I've got a big box of stuff I'm planning on bringing... I suppose I could organize it, if no one else is doing so. I'll just have to have kona/lex give me the run-down on what I need to do (besides obviously getting the table up on Thursday morning)

In the past I would get a page on the wiki for people to list what they were bringing for display. Then create signs and figure out how to organize the items (usually I did it chronologically and grouped swag together from same games).

Sorry my part of the collection will be missing again. But I'm flying to Chicago the first weekend, then Drill weekend in Texas the second weekend in July. Cannot pull off the trifecta - that third weekend will be my last one with konashark before he leaves for Iraq.

Sounds like what I remember, so no surprises means...

I'll gladly head the ARG Museum this year--now people just need to bring stuff!

I think I'll be taking a lot this year as well... I picked up one of the swag packs from last year, and I've got a few things over the year too...

Short answer: No. ... I contacted her again and got an email in return that stated that we would have to reserve 100 rooms per night due to our space needs.

WHAT?!

Probably they are in talks with someone wanting to rent facilities for a wedding with out of town guests, so can count on more catering/rooms/service fees than out little (BIG!) shindig.

Anyway, I'm going - Driving from Pittsbugh, PA so anyone in between PA and Georgia want to split gas and or room, please speak up. I have a new chevy Traverse, so I can take an additional 2 or 3 partygoers who want me to stop along the way.

contact me: magesteffSPLAThotmail.com so we can set ot times or meeting locations
[edit]
I forgot, I'll be staying in a handicapped room this time around to accomadate the scooter. I may be in a single room.

UPDATE!

We have a contract! I repeat. We have a contract!

I signed it just a few minutes ago and now it's off to the magical land where they do what they have to do to get the group rates in the computer and lock in the various rooms and spaces we'll be using.

I will admit that it was definitely not my first choice and, after dealing with them for the last week I feel like a definite idiot for that. They've been really great so far and I expect that we'll have an outstanding experience with them in July.

Hotel details will be made available as soon as everything is set up & working on their front - this way we'll stop anyone from accidentally booking at a higher rate out of sheer excitement. But, for your budgeting purposes, the room rates will be $149 which is a steal considering their posted rates for that weekend start at $249 a night. Shocked As soon as we know that you can book at the lower rate, we will send out links and info and whatnots.

Also, it's in a great location. Just a block (a long block, but a block!) from the park and maybe 2 or 3 blocks from MARTA. Lots of good restaurants around. Starbucks. A Caribou isn't that far for you Starbucks haters. It is good. I am happy. You will be too.

WHEEE! WE HAVE A HOTEL!

I guess you and I differ on what a block is. I'd call it half a block to the Park and 1-2 to MARTA. The magic of words has made things closer! I'll get to posting the final section of food advice — Stuff near the Hotel, AKA the useful section — when there's an official declaration.

Not quite sure how you'd consider it a half a block - you even have to cross a street or two. So you're not going by the street to street equals a block definition that I go by. Since it's just a little tiny dead end of a street - more of an alley, I considered it a long block Smile

If a person, for whatever silly reason, should find himself in Alabama about that time and found out he might need to take a drive to South Carolina... Would said person be able to stop about halfway and do anything on a "walk-in" basis?
Creepy that Atlanta is almost exactly in the middle of the other two places.

And... because it always bugs me when this particular discussion gets underway...

Sort of a "Whatever you want to make it" affair, as far as distances go.
There was a round block in one of the German cities I lived in in the Army.

Yep. The what depends on the day. During the weekend, you could participate in the games. During the week, you could come to the cocktail party or the keynote. Assuming space is available, tickets will be available at the door.

Oh happy day! We can now tell you exactly which hotel will be hosting ARGFest 2010:

The W Atlanta - Midtown

That's right. We're going in style this year! We're fancy!

But we're fancy with a oh so nice rate! That's right. $149/night! Not bad! Not bad at all!

To book at the rate, you can do so from this page.

The location & contact info is:
W Atlanta - Midtown
188 14th Street NE
Atlanta, Georgia 30361, USA
Phone: (404) 892-6000

note: there are THREE Ws in Atlanta: Buckhead, Downtown, and Midtown. We are at Midtown one. Remember that. Midtown Midtown Midtown.
