As much as I am loathe to bring it up, the site Shacknews (as in, dot com) might be a good alternative to Slashdot. The reason I say them is because the Shack has a widespread fanbase across the U.S. of fairly hardcore gamers that could help us activate axons. Go into the comment systems and ask for help there, or try emailing the webmaster of the site and ask for an article to be pasted on the front page.
You guys are thinking ARG...... when you should be thinking Halo2. This is a game right. So we need to inlist Gamers. PC gamers, Playstation gamers, and (oh, God forbid) Xbox gamers. We need people who like to play Games, regardless of how dedicated to the story they are. We are so close to 777 axons. Lets finish with a bang!!!

The only thing that I can see being sticky about reaching out to these websites right now (as in, Sunday and Monday), is that we won't have the proper thing to tell them to say into the phone, since we don't know the new question ourselves.
So either we hope people get the message by Tuesday morning, after an axon's been enhotenated and we can slap up the correct response at the top of the axons page, or hope that they get totally and completely sucked into the game, so they'll be able to answer it themselves on the fly.

Perhaps a message at the top of the axons page to check back for the proper password and/or they can listen to the .wav files and probably be able to answer the question themselves.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply the .wav files were not helpful at all , just that they weren't helpful in regards to getting people to the actual location.

All we have to do is supply an instructions link to the axon thread "What to
do blah blah..", which I did and inform them that it will be updated Tuesday,
which I just added.
Problem #2 solved.

Woo!
I should've phrased it in the form of a suggestion, rather than as a "potential problem." My bad.

No, it didn't sound that way. I took your suggestion and fixed it.

Suggestion about what NOT to put. We need to make sure that there is no easily available info about phone numbers...no mention of phone directories...no way whatsoever for the bored to easily gum up the works.
I just don't want to answer a phone and have some jackhole ask for bob...
Oh, also, has anyone checked to make sure DarkkForge can take a Slashdotting?

While I totally agree, I think the plain old truth is that this axon hunting exercise, while awesome, is getting to be more than we all can handle (design flaw or player flaw is not to be debated here). We need help (and if Dana knows it, then the PMs know it too. If they know we need help, then WE NEED HELP!)
So, a /. may be a very effective way to get this accomplished without having to call your half-brother who lives in Katchahachie, Louisiana (no there's not an axon there, cuz I made the town up, sheesh! ) and asking him to "dork out" at a payphone nearby.
This is our (as a community) game, and I think /. is a powerful gathering place for those in the circles of computers, gaming, and technology. They're dorking out and they've been doing so for years. They're cool with this stuff. It's an appropriate forum and we should do it post-haste.

Anybody thought of trying to get the bungie web site or halo fna sites to help? It' being revenated right now but if we could get the Halo fans involved then they might be able to help us get some more bodies to the phones. I for one will be trying all my halo contacts around the US and see if they can help if they aren't already playing the game.
just a thought.

I haven't but considering the slow pace that it has on my comp I think
it would cause some problems. Anyone know of a better link to the 9/14
axon lists? Maybe a post that has an excel sheet?
Also, when/if we come up with an alternative, are we ready to post this?
I don't know anything about /. so would have no idea where to post it or
what that would involve.

Or could whoever posts this, delete the "blackforge" link and attach the
spreadsheet from his page to the post?

Ok, I have deleted the "blackforge" link and left a space for an attachment
of his spreadsheet from the same page.
IS THERE ANY REASON THAT THIS SHOULD NOT GO OUT NOW?
Not having any familiarity with /. myslef, is there anyone who knows
where this should go?

Presumably you'll be wanting to Submit a Story, so click the Submit Story link on the front page, choose a good title, and fire away. Generally they get rejected. To get one accepted it has to be relevant, newsworthy, concise and full of links (usually). There's no space for attachments. I'm not really sure your post is in the spirit of /. -- have you seen the style of existing news posts on there? The style is of short, snappy announcements informing /.ers of something - not open letters to them. Still, there's a first time for everything.
Of course, feel free to spam the comments with it, but I'm afraid it would probably just get marked down and ignored. Maybe try commenting in Xbox-relevant threads.
Slashdot generally doesn't run stories unless a few people have submitted the same sort of thing, either - but if they're clones then they definitely won't run it. Playing the /. game is a balancing act!
