Re: "Celebrity" Viral Followers ...
Francesco Marciuliano and Tom Wilson have done this in the past!

Sorry if you took offense, that wasn't my intent — but merely to disagree with your hypothesis offered.

Did any of you read the article?
(Or, just click on the picture?)

The article you originally linked is to your own blog, correct? Thus your offering your own opinion on the "Rocket Pops" mention there as evidence backing up your post here? If I understand your question above... I'm not sure I'm following your logic.

Quote:
And why "Rocket Pops?"

Because it's summer, and kids often eat frozen treats that you can make at home in summer when its hot? And "rocket pops" is a fairly ubiquitous term for homemade frozen juice pop molds, as several dozen Google results indicate?

To answer your original statement: no, I can't see this mention isn't just a coincidence yet.

In answer to your larger question: it may be a little early for other celebrity viral follower finds yet... but I'm sure they'll arise as the film/viral gains momentum!

I think for a cartoonist to be published in the daily/weekly newspaper funnies they need to have a certain mainstream appeal to attract the widest audience possible. "Cloverfield" was also mainstream to the point where enough people would get the reference. "Rocket Pops" referencing a little known website for a little known viral campaign, doubtful. Now referring to the froze summertime treats everybody loves and adores, Very Happy !

@ FilmEdge

No, I wasn't offended ...

While it is my blog (and my opinions), the link provided was to back-up my original hypothesis that Francesco Marciuliano (and Tom Wilson) may be viral fans.
It's the DATES in which the comics were posted that attracted my attention: The "Cloverfield" Sally Forth was published on Cloverfield's Anniversary (1/18/09); The Tom Wilson "Cloverfield" was published on Easter Sunday (3/23/08 - "Easter Eggs" anyone? - The DVD was released one month later, and the "Easter Eggs" on the DVD state "Clover" may be of alien origin!); The Tom Wilson "James T. Kirk" was published on the same day as Sally Forth's "Cloverfield" ref was (1/18/09 - We had just learned of J.J.'s plans for a Star Trek re-boot).

While "coincidence" is a plausibility, it just seems (to me) that (because of the publishing dates), Fransesco and Tom are not just merely "fans", they are also "players." (But no means "in-game") ...

Also, as I asked above, "Why Rocket Pops?" ... Why now? ... It's not a reference to Super 8, and the girls in the strip are into Werewolves and Vampires, not Outer Space. Yeah, the "summer" thing ... "Pops" refers to the Popsicle Brand, and I don't think they (Rocket Pops) are that common. I had not even thought of one since I was 12, until the "Rocket Poppeteers" stuff popped up.

Francesco Marciuliano: http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/2009/01/happy-anniversary-cloverfield.html
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francesco_Marciuliano
"Over the years, Sally Forth has made a consistent impressive growth in popularity. Why? Because it's every working mother's story!"

Tom Wilson: http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/2008/03/ziggy-and-cloverfield.html
- http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/cartoonists/80386
"Ziggy, ... [has] approximately 75 million fans world-wide in nearly 600 newspapers."

Easter moves around every year. It's not always on the same date.

The "Forth" Amendment ...
i.e. Legal Godzilla!

Sure.

Since this thread has been marked [OT] ...
I think I'll point out yet another useless piece of information:
(for the entertainment of those who just love time-wasting)
http://dyspathy.com/?p=3178
Legal Godzilla makes us forget DUI Attorney Daniel Hajji
Quote:
We aren't making up that legal Godzilla thing. Apparently Godzilla could beat Reed in a street fight, but not in the courtroom.
What about Reed versus Mike Ditka…in golf? Ditka. But it's close. Reed is an expert on all matters related to the Forth Amendment.
As Constitutional scholars know, the Forth Amendment requires newspapers to run Sally Forth, the epically unfunny baby boomer cartoon.
The Forth Amendment isn't as famous at the popular Fourth Amendment, but it's just as important.

He's also in the National Registry of Who's Who, which is super prestigious and open only to people willing to send like $15.

Shocked Silly

Here's a celebrity who's following Super 8 (courtesy of an article at Movie Viral: http://www.movieviral.com/2010/06/14/aubrey-plaza-goes-virally-crazy-over-super-8/ ), actress Aubrey Plaza (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Parks and Recreation).

Okay, she's not much of a celebrity, and I've never heard of her either, but I want my 1 point, damn it! Wink
