Which sound? "sound 3.mp3" (the tones) or "sound 89 (over to down ).mp3" (the dun sound)

What software did you use? What speed did you slow it down to? Can you save a copy of what you have and post it here?

As soon as I posted this, I went to look at the files that I just grabbed today. The file names are now:
- Sound 3.mp3
- Sound 89.mp3

The weird comments from Sound 89 are gone now, too. It looks like new versions of the files were added, or at the very least something (not clear what yet aside from the name/comments) has changed.

Call me crazy... but i'm gonna be siding for the Golden Ratio from now on.... it's been talked about but i never really convinced myself of it, i just went along with it cause it was the most plausible answer....

i sped up the tempo some and lowered the Hz while playing around with it again, and it's still fairy illegible so i could be hearing things/imagining it all, but i actually hear w/e this is reciting the numbers, think the radio broadcast of the numbers from lost.

I just did a Hex Compare on the old files and new files.

- Sound 3 is the same
- Sound 89 is different, but it's such a short tone that I think that most, if not all, of the differences would be due to the name change and pulling out that audio data from the comments.

I think that someone may be monitoring the board and thought "Crap, that dummy is reading too much into the file name/comments".

Oh well, I'm drawing a blank again.

 Another Spielberg reference?

Maybe this is another movie reference?

Has anyone compared these notes to the ones E.T. plays on the Speak & Spell to "phone home"?

What the crap

Well, for a moment I thought I had an epiphany about the sounds. It turned out to be a dead end, but I did make a weird and interesting discover. I remembered all of the sudden that the voyager space probe had included a golden record along with picture instructions on how to play it. On the record was a bunch of sounds and stuff, plus pictures that can be digitally displayed, that was intended to introduce aliens to the human race peacefully. I didn't find any similarities to our sound, but I listened to the sounds and looked at the pictures and I'm pretty sure any aliens that listen to it would think we are bat shit insane. Especially the sounds. Maybe Super 8 is about an alien who heard that crap and came down to wail on us just for being retarded. Check it out here:

Those were very odd! That Life Signs, Pulsar one sounds like someone butt dialed me and started listening to the beginning of The Car Wash.

Not sure if it is relevant, but in the Portal ARG, they translated tones to pictures... =]=]=]

Kind of funny

First of all, I'm not joking, but I think this is more coincidence than anything. I was playing with the sound file in a program called praat and I changed it around a bit and got the following image..

I'm new to all of this, but I know a lot about audio and such ... so I figured I would throw my two cents in.

The sounds don't really make anything in regards to slowing down, speeding up, reversing, etc. I've tried many different filters and nothing came out of it.

The only thing I did that made it a bit clearer was get rid of the hiss in the background. It still didn't change anything with the notes or what some on here think is someone talking.

None of my tests revealed anything of worth either. However, I did find something a bit interesting. I slowed down the file in Audacity and it sounds really erie! I did this both with and without noise removal. When I left the hiss in and slowed it down, the "hiss" now sounded like it was under water noises (i.e. water moving around a microphone). This reminded me of our favorite unexplained noise, "The Bloop".

Also, another point of interest, I noticed that some of the "notes" or "tones" faded or cut out in the middle and then fade back in really quickly. These "fadeouts" become more frequent in each tone as the file progresses. Also, the first tone is completely uninterupted.

If you have Audacity (if not, it's free), you can recreate what I did.

1. Open the program

2. Open the sound file.
(Flie > Open or Project > Import)

3. Slow down the audio to -80.
(select the entire file and choose Effect > Change Speed. Move the wedge to -80.00. Hit "OK" )

Now as I said before, the number of "fadeouts" in each tone increases as teh file progresses. The progresssion is as such:

1st tone : 0

2nd tone: 1

3rd tone: 1

4th tone: 2

5th tone: 3

6th tone: 5 (one is very close to the beginning of the tone so it's hard to catch audibly, but you can see it)

7th tone: 4

8th tone: 5

Does this mean anything? I'm not sure. But I thought it was worth bringing up.

That info is already present. Slow down the audio 75% in audactiy, -75.00 and you can hear the song.

STIES Flash File - Decompiling

I know that a few people have decompiled this, including myself, but I was wondering if anyone with better Flash skills than I had grabbed the most recent version of the file (they updated the names of the embedded audio files, so I'm assuming it's a new flash file) and was able to take a look at the actions?

When I try to view the actions, my decompiler crashes. I can view some things using SWFscan, but even that reports that there's some obfuscated code that it won't pull up. My other decompiler just plain crashes when I try to look at the actions.

I'm just hoping that there may be something new since they (I think) updated the file.

Slow it down all you want, it doesn't do anything. I just did it again, and there's no "song" or whatever the previous poster was getting at.

Besides, if anyone is hearing something magical by doing their own methods within Audacity or any other program (I am using Adobe Audition), then post it. Words mean nothing. I can swear up and down that if you slow it down it is J.J. Abrams playing a pennywhistle, but who would believe me unless I posted proof?
