There's an easy fix for newcomers wanting to write down an idea before it's lost, before they search to see if it's already been posed. Type your intended post up in Notepad (or TextEdit, or gNotepad, or vi if you are really masochistic) then do your search then c&p it somewhere if you find no trace of it elsewhere.

Or, enjoy your fish.

Agreed. When I first joined up here, I actually read through all the threads before I made my first post (there were fewer then, admittedly), but I took the time to familiarize myself with the discussions already existing.

Why? To show respect for everyone already doing work on the forum.

When new members or guests jump in, post some theory or article about topics already discussed, it shows a disrespect for others' time and work. It's tantamount to saying, "I won't waste my time reading what you all have written, just pay attention to me."

Opinions, theories and comments are most welcome here — I can attest to that as a relatively new player. Just show others the respect they're going to show you from the moment you show up... unless you prove yourself less worthy of respect.

Yes, there's a LOT to read on SUPER 8 already. But it's worth reading because you'll be much better informed when you offer your contributions. And it's certainly worth a few seconds SEARCHING for topics before posting about them.

Omega-3 goodness is tasty, but getting up to speed on the game before joining in to play is better. And if you think there's "too much" to read now, try reading it all six months from now! Very Happy

That being said: JJ, we're ready for our next solid clue, please!

Yeah, there is alot more to read now than when I joined up. I read 35 pages of the main thread at the time and then the latest ten pages of the rocketpoppeteers thread. When I thought I had something new to post other than opinions and pithy comments, I used the search function. It's not that difficult. In forums like this, it's almost like we should have a small, five question test on forum etiquette before people are allowed to post. If you miss more than one, FAIL! Laughing

Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome! And yeah, if only, right? Seriously chomping at the bit here on this. Though, would rather be chomping brownies, lol.

Longtime lurker here, finaly decided to get in gear and join the game. I have to agree here. I've read all 45 pages of this thread as well as the 61 pages worth of the rocketpoppeteer.com thread, and lord, do it now before it's 75, 100, or god knows how many pages, lol.

That being said...I can't wait for the next clue!

Twisted Evil Playing devils advocate here... I don't think it's uncommon for someone to come across a forum for the first time and to have an idea that they think may be original, but reading all the posts that have came before would literally take hours, and dammit, you've got this nifty idea in your head and don't wanna lose it. You could search, but the thoughts may not even form a coherent whole yet, so you're not sure what keywords you'd search for. So you type out and try to make whole these thoughts before you lose 'em. At which point we give them a little spanking with a dead fish (at least I hope they're dead) and red-faced they follow the provided link to see what has actually come before and then hopefully reenter the discussion a little better armed.
Now, I'm not condoning this behavior. I'm just saying it's not uncommon and there's a reason for it (usually, that humans can be lazy, after all we've got other things to do as well), and mild reprimands are always going to be necessary. Frustration when others don't follow the same course of action that we did will only lead to... well, more frustration. Wink

I don't intend for that to sound malicious, but with the time you took to type all of that out, I think you could've searched the forums for "Night Skies" and seen that not only do we have a thread specifically titled "Night Skies", but it has been mentioned in several others as well.
