the reflection in the desk does not match the item on it, the box/projector appears to have a speaker type thing on the side of it in reflection, but not on the actual box, and you can't see the reflection of the files. the items in the forground are pin-tacs right?

also, i'm pretty sure I can see maybe a reflection in the window above the hat and box of a dos screen/pdp-11 (black with green writing) or maybe it's an old TV mounted on the wall through the window - I had to max up contrast, brightness and mid tones to just about see it. if it's not a screen it could be an airvent but it looks too big.

I am pretty sure that's the reflection of another window with venetian style blinds.

I see an office door there (with Gimp2), like oldschool office door. They are called venetian style blinds? Probably we mean the same. I'll try to get a messed-around-with pic of it when I get home.

1. Nice find

2. Maybe the film was found in the box in storage somewhere. That's why all the other items are vintage.

3. There looks like there is a "1" in front of 25801, so 125801

if the image we are seeing in left is a reflection why cant we see through glass or what is preventing us, weird to have a mirror/glass like that full length with a wooden border running right through it - is it a two way mirror?

and why can't we see the reflection of photo taker anywhere? unless that is the reflection in lamp?

Here's a better photo of the stuff on the left.

Looks like maybe somebody bought a box of unknown stuff at an estate sale or something? Looking into the hat more.

Can you do the whole picture like this please. i can not replicate the clarity

It looks like there is writing on the box above the hat. I'll see what I can pull out, but it's real difficult to read.

Maybe someone can give it a shot.

The Super8 Filmmaterial has Audio - proof by the two lines on the right of the projection

I'm still re-reading all your posts and studying the photo (thanks for the straight-from-SWF file!), but the above comment caught my eye.

Are you saying the two stripes on the side of the film image are the magnetic sound stripes??

If so, I don't know of any Super 8 projector that *shows* the magnetic sound strip in the projected image. I worked with sound Super 8 in the past (like 25 years ago, LOL!), and the soundstripe is off to the side of the visible film frame, either on the far side of the perfs or the opposite side.

The only way I've heard of seeing an actual film soundtrack is with optical audio track, which looks nothing like this, and Super 8 only used oxide magnetic stripes.

I think they're just stripes on the image. This appears to be blank leader or unexposed film anyway.

Spec...

I'm thinking the hat belonged to the wife of the astronaut/rocket scientist from the 1960s era (newspaper articles).

And the monkey pin refers to the Capuchin monkey in RAIDERS.

Any chance Indy went to work for NASA after his Area 51 adventures? Laughing

Once again, I believe most of you have been looking in the wrong place and making bad assumptions.
.
I dont think the background is what we should be focusing on. We should more be focusing on the conversation going on and what was shown clearly in the photo. What can be clearly seen without editing is a projector with what looks like a photo album on top of it, with part of the scariest thing i ever saw thing from the trailer on it. This is most likely what he's referring to when he says that he has "it"

@gramma
Finally, someone who actually agrees that this might not be as complicated as someone makes it out to be. Although I disaree a little bit on some of your points.
Quote:
Person A proofs to Person B that he has the old Super8 Film Material in his hands

Quote:
Person A is using an super8 projector (not overhead) - look at the dust flakes on the top of the projection - the film material is moving "from top to bottom" so to speak

I dont see what you mean about the "dust". If you look over at whatever is on the table, it looks flat, and then seems like it has some sort of papers sitting on top of it. We also dont have any proof that the "scariestthingieversaw" thing that rolls across the screen in the trailer is from super8 film.

Also, if you compare the one on the projector and the one in the trailer, the one in the trailer looks a lot more crumpled and worn, like paper would get over an extended period of time, which makes me think it is an overhead projector, and he's looking at something from a file or album about the "incident". But that's also speculation.

So I took the image 139 file from http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29773&start=13 .
Here are my two processings:

First one is just the flipped image with some gradiation done to it, second one shows what I'm talking about.

From bottom to top:
Turquoise outlined- area seems to some carpet.
Blue filled in- area seems to be a low wall (room divider).
Red outlined- area seems to be a wooden top to the room dividing wall.
Yellow outlined- area looks like a door to me. One of those doors with large window panels in it, covered by a jalousie (shade/blind). I connect those doors to your typical Police/FBI-quarters as we see them on TV/film.

What strikes me the most is the perspective, though. The hat looks huge. (Yeah, it's a hat and it's huge! Wink ) Seriously, the hat is in the background, like 10 feet at least from the glass-top table in the front, yet it looks huge. And also compared to the lampshade it really looks, well, huge. If I assume the room dividing wall to be about 80 cm high (about 2.7 ft) the hat is half of that in diameter or more.... that is a really large hat... On the other hand, I never came across such a hat in real life, so... maybe they were that large.
