Looks like there's 3 axons in the UMN area... all in a (roughly) 3-block area. I'm planning on Wednesday and Thursday to hit these (have both days off). One of the R4 axons is at the same coords that I couldn't find today, but I'm gonna do what I can... Any other MN beekeepers out there who want to help me cover more ground?

Edit:

...
...
...

I just PM'd a few folks who've mentioned trying to hit MN / MPLS axons before... let's see if they want to get organized!

SF axons

As usual, I will be trying to hit as many as possible in San Francisco. I can get the before and after work axons, as well as any that are around lunchtime within the next few days. Yes, even the 6:23am axon. (Is the sun even up at that time?)

I haven't done any cross-analysis on these axons with previous axons yet, but here is a spreadsheet for comatas axons.

Difficulty: Medium

This is the clock tower at Coolidge Corner. The payphone was not immediately obvious on a drive-by; further scouting might be in order.

I just scouted Coolidge Corner. Walking up and down Harvard Street, I found 3 sets of payphones. First set had 5 near the Coolidge Corner Theater. None took incoming calls.

Two more were next to the shelter on the inbound side of the Green Line 'C' stop. The phone on the right took incoming calls. Probably the best bet here as these phones are closest to the GPS coordinates.

Two more were further down Harvard Street near the salon that did nails. Both of those phones also took incoming calls.

Again, unless these axons are activated during the week, I can definitely stand there Saturday and Sunday.

Mike

If I had to guess, it's going to be the phones at the T stop. They match the mapped location far better than a location at the nails place or the theater. (I didn't see the phones at the T stop because I was looking at the Walgreens -- silly me.)

If you can't get there before Saturday, Mike, I might try earlier...

Be my guest. My day goes from about 7am to 7pm during the weekday, so I definitely won't be able to hit it before Saturday.

Good luck!

NYS/PA Axons

mrzarquon wrote:
I can get the montoursvillle PA one:

I've actually been up that way before, but can't make it this tuesday, if its not hit by thursday, i'll go and light it up. I will try to scope it out before then. (it looks like its a gas station or something like that).

According to the Payphone Directory and Geocode, this is at 1015 N. Loyalsock Ave at a Walmart. I hope that you can go get this one because there is no way I can get Mansfield and then Mourtoursville on the same day.

As for all the other NYS/PA axons, here is my list of the points near me.

Quote:
06:01 (such_pigs): 1023 Center St, Horseheads, NY - Dunkin' Donuts

06:25 (such_pigs): 1169 S Main St, Mansfield, PA - Walmart (7 phones)

07:05 (her_hair): 710 W State St, Ithaca, NY - Greyhound (4 phones inside, 1 outside)

13:37 (refreshingly_cool): 100 Viewmont Mall, Dickson City, PA - Borders Books (inside near bathrooms)

15:07 (dark_genius): 880 Kidder St, Wilkes-Barre, PA - TGI Fridays (inside near bathrooms - payphone on left)

15:29 (dark_genius): 96 Victory Hwy, Painted Post, NY - Pizza Hut

16:09 (twenty_percent): 88 Victory Hwy, Painted Post, NY - Crystal Cinemas (inside near box office)

The ones I've bolded are the ones I'm 100% sure about since I've been there. The other points are from the payphone directory and geocode. Unless someone is nice and gets some of these, I plan to hit the NY points on Saturday and the PA points on Sunday. But really, I am willing to share in the joy of axon answering if anyone else wants to go do these.

So did you say Captain Greene, or just Greene?

ANSWER: Just "Greene" (the exact question is what's his LAST name?) -- AD

Answer

I said "Green" twice at the Central Square (Boston) 6:49 axon, but didn't get a positive response. I tried saying Captain Green, but got cut off. Might have been street noise. I'll try again tomorrow.

Kalamazoo also showed up--was nice to have a little company.

*edit--Also, this might be of note. Melissa said "it is getting harder and harder to maintain this voice", and I think she said she won't be able to keep it up much longer. Hopefully that means the phone hunt is drawing to a close...

Axons attempted: 2
Axons enhottenated: 0 Sad

9:13 AM, Allstate Rd & Mass Av

This is the South Bay Shopping Center. There is no payphone at the indicated location, but there are plenty in the shopping center:

2 at the Super 88 Market
2 at the Super Stop & Shop (tested; do not accept incoming calls)
1 at the OfficeMax (tested; does accept incoming calls)
3 at the gas station, near I-93

I waited near the OfficeMax phone; no ring.

9:47 AM, Pleasant St & Mass Av (Central Square), Cambridge

Avatrix & I met for this one. The phone did ring at the appointed time, but Melissa failed to recognize Greene's name. Sad Will try again tomorrow.
