[SPEC]Expcnv.dat just found this might help us figure out how to look at the sound byte on S.T.I.E.S.or at least shed some light on it. typed Experiment cpnv on wikipedia

not sure if this has been presented before, so feel free to trout me

I hesitate to trout because while it was mentioned before, nobody expanded on that theory and to me it seems a pretty viable one.
From the Bragen14 Analysis thread:
So yeah I think it's pretty solid as a theory. EXP may also refer to "expectancy" which is the mental process regarding choice, or choosing.
Lot's of cool info regarding this subject after just a quick search.

ok can anyone cleverer then me translate that wiki page into something understandable, lol, i get that its to do with the reactions to gaps between a stimulus be it sound or vision but does it need both sound and vision? are we missing a video file to go with the audio file?

I believe the test used either sound or flashes of light, not both.
In one experiment, an amber light would flash (stimulus 1) followed by either a grean or a red light (stimulus 2). Participants would be asked to click a button as quickly as possible if S2 was green and do nothing if S2 was red. By measuring the amplitude of CNV between S1 and S2, it was theorized that the subject would be able to predict (presumably through precognition) the color of S2.
So it sounds more like a case study in ESP and not necessarily mind control.

Interesting! What if there's some government test angle on this: the ability to predict a series of tones just before they/each are played?
Like an ESP test attempting to predict a series of unseen Zener cards behind a screen. Or perhaps the ability to remote sense a series of tones being played for a target subject.
Certainly the theme of communicating through music and mental telepathy figure prominently in CE3K, which undoubtedly will be a tribute subject for JJ in SUPER 8. Just the same as Spielberg combining computers and music as a nod to the careers of his parents. I can easily see Abrams playing his own angle on such references.

.DAT why are the two things that work (rscom8 and expcnv) followed by ".dat" my guess is that it stands for data but the others are followed by other things like "BAS", "WRK", and "TXT"....what do those stand for? txt=text? wrk=work? bas=?

This was covered in depth a while back when fervent analysis began, but in short: .dat is a file extension referring to a generic type of data file with no application associated to open it. It could be a text file, audio, video, etc.
The other files are currently inaccessible, regardless of extension.

the tones that play when you enter the path destination WHAT DO THOSE TONES MEAN!!!!!!!!!
I know that there's been a huge gap in time with replies to this strand. I haven't seen any other threads though (go ahead and fish me right in the face if I'm wrong) that goes into it what those tones really mean. I haven't read the wikipedia article yet mentioned above, but I'm going to. But thinking about that, and then the set of tones that play when you enter "/desktop/Braegen14/expcnv.dat" into the external source search (I'm sorry, I don't know computer lingo too well), it makes alot of sense. I saw some theories about the tones possibly representing the golden ratio also. I was also thinking that this also had to do with the "D12" clue too because EXPCNV is the 12th one down. Just a thought. I totally think that we missed something. But then again, i'm new to all of this and I don't know what the heck I'm doing half the time. I feel like I'm chasing dead ends most of the time.
Any thoughts?

You stated, "I feel like I'm chasing dead ends most of the time."
Welcome to the club!

Yes, efendrich, your question is our question too Actually this sound file wasn't really understood by us, even if people here analyzed it in high scientific ways. Perhaps it will be solved later.

Do you remember how in Contact the transmission that they received from Vega had multiple layers? First was the sound message that they received that was a series of prime numbers (kinda like this message being similar to the golden ratio). And then there was the video and the images. What if there's some hidden picture underlying this set of frequencies on STIES website?
If there is though I wouldn't even begin to know how to look into that.
Oh, and Jane's office looks awesome by the way.

Had an idea, and this stems from a pervious arg, as i havent really seen any other developments on this topid here we go;
I know in and arg for PORTAL2 from the game dev valve, it was set a every simaler way to this one where people could look at printouts from a simulator
also in this arg, the original game was incorperated where ingame radios sounds changed, and if you carried each radio to the end of each stage a new endgame cinematic played
Some one had the bright idea to anylize the random noise visually, with SStv this led to creation of a number images that reviled a clue
aka, could these tones in this arg MAKE and image through SSTV or another sound to image anyalyses , and just what kind of tone is it?
here is the link to the portal 2 arg page, if somone wanted to look into this, im too lazy, it had just sparked an idea
http://portalwiki.net/index.php/SSTV_Pictures
haent seen anything like this suggested yet, so dont hurt me if it has

It's a good idea, spy.
As far as I remember, in the original EXPCNV thread it was discussed a little bit whether the sequence could hold encoded images. But the efforts were to no avail. From what I read at Wiki about SSTV and how it works I would doubt any chance though. Quote from there:
Quote:
SSTV uses analogue frequency modulation, in which every different value of brightness in the image gets a different audio frequency. In other words, the signal frequency shifts up or down to designate brighter or darker pixels, respectively. Color is achieved by sending the brightness of each color component (usually red, green and blue) separately. This signal can be fed into an SSB transmitter, which in part modulates the carrier wave.
There are a number of different modes of transmission, but the most common ones are Martin M1 (popular in Europe) and Scottie S1 (used mostly in the USA).[5] Using one of these, an image transfer takes 114 (M1) or 110 (S1) seconds. Some black and white modes take only 8 seconds to transfer an image.
You can listen to a sound on that page that gives an example of what SSTV radiosignals sound like. At least those that are encoded with the naturally old "algorithm".
And here on Youtube is a video for the Portal-sounds. Seems to me they used precisely the method resulting in, by their nature, very different sequences to EXPCNV.
Sorry, but I heavily doubt it. Imo, there is good potential though that our sound is in some other way some kind of carrier for either a pic or something else.
