I'm still not convinced this will prove a crucial detail to the game. There seem to be many more prominent clues in the photo(s) we've yet to fully decipher.

Re: The marker
Wow you guys, really? Ok, I AM a woman, alright? And I have lipsticks, and I can tell you, that no woman would just leave an open lipstick lying half underneath some dusty looking stereo or record player or reel to reel whatever!! That's just ludicrous!! That's a great way to ruin a perfectly good lipstick.

And as for the hat, while it's possible that if it was a woman, she was wearing the hat and took it off and placed it on top of the box, I still think it's highly unlikely that someone would put something they owned on top of a box that's marked "sold". And don't tell me you think that a post-it survived going through the mail. There's no way.
Well, you got me on the lipstick, and you're right, post-its can't realistically make it through the mail, but then what is the deal with that box? if you look at it, it has bubble wrap and paper and packaging spilling out it it. That doesn't happen when you are getting ready to ship something, that happens when you take something out and unwrap it, right? So what could be the deal with that box? just brainstorming:

Maybe somebody just dumped the box on his or her door step and left, post it and all. In that message, it almost sounds like he orshe got it but doesn't want it.
or he or she could have picked it up from someone after buying it, hence the sold. I suppose the hat could have been the person's or it could have been in the box as some kind of message that we don't understand yet. Do we all agree that it seems the film at least came in the box (most likely) or no?

The curious thing about the box to me is that it appears to be missing flaps as we see it now, and it was made from a larger box (the way the one side of the visible flap is cut).

Is there a reason this isn't being talked about or did I just miss this in the thousands of back posts? I just saw it after checking the super 8 wiki and it says it is an update from today, or tomorrow from where I live.

Pen--Box--Hat

Although no one has yet been able to locate a photo of a pen that looks dead on to what we see in the STIES photo, I think that a pen is what is attempting to be conveyed, and a small chisel-tp pen, at that. Most markers indicate the color of the pen by the cap, and I think that's what the red thing on the end is.

The fact that it appears to be under the record player/tape player would indicate that the photograper is done with using the object (at the time of the photo). Why else place a number of items on top of it?

Regarding the latest posts as to the contents of the box to Beckley, what practical use would bubble-wrap provide in protecting a rather flimsy pill-box hat? Wouldn't a person, if they were intending on shipping the hat, form out of cardboard, or any other fairly rigid material, a form that could be placed inside the hat, and around the outside of it, to insure that it maintained its form and was not crushed? I've always found bubble wrap more effective to ship objects that are rigid and breakable, but a hat?

What are we being told by the spiral-notebook type of paper that the scissors are resting upon? And in one of the posts there was a pretty clear image of that area, and to me, it appeared as though there was writing just below where that sheet of paper is positioned. (sorry, I can't find the particular upload, but it was there--I KNOW IT WAS! Ok, back to the valium!

Who says the writing on the film was done by whomever is watching it there in the picture??
I would think it has been there on that film for years before this.

The box under the hat (in this picture) is that of a Trumpet Case ... I used to own one!

That's part of my point - there's no proving a point of what you have by writing on a bit of film. The writing itself is being presented as proof of something (possession of the film presumably), so pen or no - that doesn't make sense as the one that was used to write on the film.

That CL posting is very interesting, indeed!

It seems likely that the monkey pin came with that model of hat, since we have two samples to check against each other.
Not sure if that's of any help though. Probably doesn't mean diddly. Confused

Craigs list posting--position of the monkey

The Craigs list post says:
"REPOST: Estate Sale – Red/Pink Pillbox Hat with Monkey Brooch/Pin

NO DEADBEAT BUYERS PLEASE! Antique hat with fun, iron brooch/pin. Lots history here but I don't have time to get it appraised. My loss is your gain.

*Price Negotiable"

I wrote--haven't heard anything yet, but did you notice that the position of the monkey, in relation to the hanging parts of the bow, are not the same.

What, if the post is part of the ARG, does this tell us? And considering that it's a "repost," maybe the seller was ready to ship (possibly as depicted in the STIES photo) and someone back out of the deal, hence the "repost?"
