I think it may just be easier to try to get straight and even photos of the grids, then resize them all to match on a overlay...
I just took the four and did a bit of finagling, and this is how I think they're aligned so far:

(also, keeping this page updated with finds)

Looks kind of like...

CH?O?SR??S??TT?
maybe
ENCOMSRA???????

could be 6x6 letters with one column between each. A couple more patterns and I think it'll make itself clear...

How about this...
Place the postcard in a window envelope with the UV-reactive bar showing.
Illuminate with a UV source and mark the pixels and corners/borders on the clear plastic using a permanent marker.
Scan the marked-up window , crop the scanned image and post it here.

Yeah, there's gotta be more postcards. I'd love to get an Intruder one.

I wonder if this update will shine any light on the ISO programs.

Astro Gunner Images

Here's some higher rez scans of the Astro Gunner cards... just for art (I love it).

Incidentally, the vector ship is a bit reminiscent of painted ship from Asteroids Deluxe.

Great work on the puzzle guys, can't wait!

TWIX Code?

Tat2Zombi wrote:
Came home from work today and saw a cool postcard. . . I've been trying to compare it to Braille, Gray code and other early programming no luck so far. It does remind me of the very old paper tape, Baudot, Flexowriter, etc.

I had the girlfriend have a look she said it looked a bit like TWIX message encoding on paper tape (I think that was similar to the Flexowriter mentioned above). However, if that's the case then we are reading the dots incorrectly. The grid needs to be read from end to end. Also, in the TWIX messages (re-orienting the tape by rotating it 90 degrees so it's a vertical strip) each row is a letter/symbol, the data being in the first two dots, then a solid vertical column for location reference, then three dots of data.

One example of what a 6x6 could look like:

I think I can make out some of the letters (note: dash marks means "can figure out yet"):

"Cluopo-----c------x"

That's about as much as I can figure out. I could be wrong on some of them, but I don't know for sure until my postcard arrives or if more of the message is revealed!

My first thought was paper tape too (from my early days sitting at a ASR33 teletype). But it was 7-bit code. If the little bits are the registration holes, there would only be 5 bits available. But as with most computer information coding, somebody came up with the lower number bit codes Smile

I give you 5 bit paper tape codes! http://homepages.cwi.nl/~dik/english/codes/5tape.html#start

I'm going to verify my pixel positions with this overlay and see what I get. Due to the errors in photos and probably in printing, some of the pixels definitely don't evenly line up with grid positions.

Either way, it's easier to manipulate as layers in an image, so I'll try and keep the master files updated.

Ok, but if one is a registration line, a) which side is it, and b) wouldn't it show up as some regular pattern to indicate that to us?
