The belle - flower thing seems a bit contrived... I read it as "belle of the ball", i.e. "dance", and bees dance too.

Interesting that it's laevus not the more commonly known (today) sinistra...

i guess i was thinking belle as a girl being courted by suitors (to use SP's poetic/classiclanguage) but both flowers and dancing fit this... it could be either

Origin as in coordinate 0,0. Related to 1,1 and 1,3?

With the Holstein reference, "sounds like fairy" could be "dairy."

also the 1)5 2)1 could be the values for the 1,1 1,3 puzzle and we just haven't found 3 yet.

1,1 then would be 5+5 possibly. 10. "Ten and sounds like mom."

eh.

1,1 = 5+5 ???

i'm confused Confused

I wonder if 1,1 and 1,3 are referring in some way to the story fragment. Word placement maybe?

My first thought was "# of words, # of syllables", like in charades.

Dextera struck first, launching an attack with his Medius unit. Hoping to encircle his enemy with a pincer movement, he sent his Primo unit to attack from the southwest, while the crack troops of his Orbis division attacked North. Caught off guard, it was all Laevus could do to send his Medians to harry his enemy to the southeast. Dextera's surprise attack was paying off. His Median legions continued to repeat their assault, and his Orbis continued their attack to the north, but he withdrew his Primo from the chance of encountering hard battle, and sent them North as well to concentrate his forces.
The troops of Laevus were heartened by this apparent retreat. His Primo unit attacked to the north east, routed its foes, and then pushed east. His Brevis legions joined the fray, attacking valiantly, and finally an attack by the myrmidons of his Orbis units drove back all resistance.

Someone will probably get there before me, but:

medius = middle (nom.)
primo = first (abl.)
orbis = circle/ring (nom.)
brevis = brief (nom.)
myrmidons = the Myrmidons were Achilles' troops in the Trojan War.

I see a direction puzzle in this...

A battle between the left and right hand? Primo, Orbis, etc. refer to fingers.

Don't know where that other 'castle' text came from...
I retract this text... I can't get that picture again, maybe it was from a previous puzzle and I had it cached.

Hmm, none of the numbers seem to be greater than 8, we're talking about Queens, war, and movement. Chessboard anyone?

Indeed!

primo = first finger
medius = middle finger
orbis = ring finger
brevis = little finger

Where's the thumb?

Hm, could it be fingers moving across a keyboard, or something more cats-cradle style?
