Possible Connection Between Josh Minker & PDP-11 Simulator??
Just an idea I had, and wanted to share.

Let me just start by saying, if someone/everyone thinks this idea is farfetched, don't be a jerk about it, just take down the topic. Also, I just really want to hear what everyone has to say about this idea....so here it goes.

As just an idea, say Josh Minker is the one who is in possession of the PDP-11, perhaps this was one of the computers that you can see in the actual SUPER 8 trailer that are laying on the group, and that's how he got it. Now, with that IDEA in mind, perhaps the STIES website is a PDP-11 SIMULATOR because Josh is trying to show someone what's on the PDP-11 in current time?

If this doesn't make sense, I'm sorry, I've been awake for 4 days lol. It popped in my head so I thought I'd share.

I can live with that.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. I'm pretty sure "someone" has found an old "tape drive" or something and they're using this simulator on a newer computer to read it. It would make sense if Josh were in possession of the Super 8 film he would also be in possession of the Tape Drive. I assume that's what he was on Abovetopsecret attempting to authenticate.

That's a good idea. Maybe, the device the we, as ARG players have been waiting for, is a device that Josh has or something like that. I really like your idea, it makes sense. Thank you for sharing it with me, and thank you for taking the time to read mine! Very Happy

But, Josh is not supposed to not be aware about the management of PCs and others, due to his hlm site design?
If so, do not think is capable of handling simulator or something like that...

[Sorry if there are mistakes on my post, google translator xD]

I don't remember seeing anything on the HLM site about Josh not being able to navigate a computer. We also have no idea how old he is other than being able to hold down a job, and his mother dying (which can happen at anytime). Just because WE think his site looks amateurish doesn't mean HE isn't proud of it. Trust me, I've seen some veteran core networking engineers who can't put a website together, but could build you a puter out of bubble gum wrappers.

JUST AN IDEA

Well his site is amateurish, yes, but would you expect an everyday type person to be amazing at website design. Plus, maybe the reason he's not used to using a computer in current time is because he was so used to the PDP-11?

I totally agree with you VictorCharlie, you make a very valid point.

I see your point.

Sorry for that. ^^

I just post that, because I recall reading that point somewhere on the forum [but i can remember where]

Anyway, I think that "not used to using a computer in current time is because he was so used to the PDP-11" itīs a valid point.

God, I suck to write in English xD

VictorCharlie, the missing "i" is intentional, but thank you for noticing.

.::Kanon::., thank you for saying my point was valid. Oh, and don't worry about your English, at least you're trying, that's all that counts Wink

I'm kind of glad I started this thread, because I'm finding that this topic hasn't really been discussed too much, just because all of the IG information hasn't really led us to talk about it. Talking about this possible connection might eventually lead us somewhere. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I like your idea too, this has been discussed in other threads, but maybe it's not Josh that is running the simulator. The reason we think Josh is not PC literate is because he often mentions it in his posts on HLM.

However, it could be Josh running the simulator under instruction from whoever he is showing "the damn thing" too?

So, in that case, its clear that Josh has been in contact whit someone, and the last picture itīs like a resume of all the e-mail exchange within those 2.

So, Josh wrote the scariestthingieversaw on the tape to lead that someone to the site? o it was some other who wrote and josh get there like us??

question: do you think Josh has all the items that was found on the site or just the last picture? =O

We aren't really sure who wrote on the film strip that shows at the end of the SUPER 8 trailer, but we are sure that someone had to have written it. I think, based on the information that we have been given, that you are correct in saying that it is evident Josh has been in contact with someone, or that he's trying to get in contact with someone. And yes, there quite possibly be a nice serving or trout coming your way, I could do it, but I'll spare you Wink

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
By the way, I'm a girl lol. Just so you know, I totally get what you're saying, thinking in one language and writing in another. I'm bilingual, I'm Polish and can speak polish, but I've been speaking English for a long long time.

The missing "i" is intentional.

The purpose of a trout is to gently point out to someone that a topic has been previously discussed, or a website has been previously found, or a puzzle has bee previously solved.

To serve trout you must also present it with a link to the original post.
