I get confused becouse you were talking about the CL, so I interpreted as the coment was on that site.

Anyway, I agree with you. It was odd that the coment was acepted on the first place.

My apologies for my misunderstood

Tide tables
Found a match for times

Fucking Bingo! Took me a while but I found an exact match to high tide at the times on HLM-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast/tides/tides.shtml?date=20100708&loc=0111

I think Josh is in England...Tilbury was the closest match I found- High tide at 9.35 and 22.03.

Just a guess, but I'm searching around here for our boy.

Hi Martin!

Believe me, you're not the first person to remind me of that over the years!

Do you know that there have only been a handful of Coelacanth sightings in this century? They've mostly been around Indonesia and Africa, but they're spaced out enough (by 30 years in some cases) that scientists are now looking EVERYWHERE for the Coelacanth. In truth, we know so little about these creatures that we can't rule anything out. I prefer to stay as optimistic as I can!

Thank you so much for visiting the site!

J. Minker

According to http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/05/06/everything-we-know-about-jj-abrams-super-8-so-far/ , the movie is set in 1979, which would be about 30 years ago.
I think this supports the theory that Josh Minker saw something during the timeframe of Super 8 (1979), and is looking for it today ("Something's reactivated")

Christian, I don't think Josh is in England. The memorial number of Evelyne Minker was American, and I think he is as well (mentions Boston, Alaska etc.)
But I think the tide is a great clue. Are there any other places on the planet with those same tides? Maybe in Indonesia or Africa (a pretty big area to search, to be certain).

I'm not sure he's in england either, but...

Voffvoffhunden- yeah, I should have clarified, I didn't think he was in England- but due to the GMT link to the tide tables I figured this may be a clue and have been searching aquariums and such in this area for clues- I found a John Minker but nothing else yet...still going.

I'm searching in the areas mentioned, but nothing yet- there is alot of variation in places, even those really close...but hey, my life will wait for me!

Josh in England.
Or not?

I don't think Josh is in England either, for obvious reasons, but this is a bit interesting.

Redfin Perch/English Perch
Or Perca fluviatilis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_perch

I've convinced myself this is the minker site bg fish.

Yeah.. Considering that he says in his blog alotta references to canada, Maine and East Coast plus the Boston Fisherman, it sounds like he is closer to that area, not to mention the address on the box, Estate sale photos, Beckley W Virginia zip code, 1-800 number for Evelyn Minker, ...

England? Hell.. anythings possible I guess...

1963
maybe significant

Hey thought 1963 (Minker's email) could be an important year for something. All I have found is JFK assassination, nuclear test ban, and King's "I have a Dream." Obviously not important. Seeing if anybody thinks this is an idea worth pursuing.

Excellent find!!

I did a google image search for European perch, and it looks like the back three spines on the first fin on the top of the fish look a little weird on all the fish, look:

Is it possible that those fins on the bg of HLM are just a coincidental trick of the light? Or did Josh pick that fish specifically because of the difference in these spines to hide something? What do you guys think?

Wow, that's a really close match. It even offers an explanation why we have some overlapping times. Check out July 10th.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast/tides/tides.shtml?date=20100710&loc=0111

There is only one high tide that day and it's smack dab in the middle of our overlapping times. If you go through the rest of the tide charts for that location, they are pretty close matches as well. The time ranges are all right after the high tides for each given date.

I never thought to look outside the American Atlantic coast. I wonder if there are other places on earth that have such a close match

Instead of using an actual English perch, I think what they did is photoshopped a yellow perch knowing the red fins and odd spines would be even more apparent. I think this was a clue to lead us to england, which you guys have already started looking into. I'd say this reinforces the potential England trailhead, but who knows!

Nice find on the correct fish morrison!

I have no idea why it's there. But it is a very common fish. You'd think Josh would have something more rare or exotic. ??? Honestly until I found the fish I thought the pic was photoshopped. But now we now better I guess.

I still think it's odd though. Why make a bg image that big? 1450x742 pixels.

Correct me if I'm wrong but most cameras don't to that resolution/ratio do they?

photoshopped ?

IMHO the fish england connection is a bit farfetched.

Might be an idea to try cross referencing Coelacanth sightings with tide tables. Arduous, but may pay off. Not finding anything much in Tilbury or nearby.
