I do know about webdesign and you have a point. That's even confusing me now. Weird. Confused

Edit: what I thought odd was that the image on those other pages wasn't showing up. Just the text "rocket poppoteers". Obvious alt text for the image. But strange. Website fail! Smile

Re: Paswords?
possibility of getting into other part of the site?

So I just got an idea, though I'm not sure if its possible. So you know when you go to the rocketpoppeteers website its down, BUT what about putting in a code word or password in after the "/", you know what I'm saying? I already tried RedCozmo and Coelacanth, but nothing happened. Probably far fetched but I'm just desperate for something to happen.

If it helps: putting in a word after the domain/ of the URL is not entering a "code word" or "password" — if the site accepts a word after the domain/, then that word is most likely the name of a domain sub-folder. Often if the server accepts that word, it will add a / after it to signify that it's a valid subfolder of the main root directory.

Per above: 'img' would be a valid subfolder in the main directory if that's where the RP image is stored. But if you just enter "www.rocketpoppeteers.com/img" as a URL, it won't return a valid result unless there's a default file in that 'img' directory, such as "index.html". Then simply entering the directory name after the domain would open that 'index' page in the subfolder.

Since you get an error message, this would imply there are only image files in that folder, or other types of (non-html) files which cannot be accessed via your browser.

This is exactly that's going on. The server is configured so that any attempt to go to a directory, or file, that exists on the server will return that directory or file as normal. However, going to anything that doesn't exist will return the
"Site Temporarily Down" page. This is slightly different than your average 404 error, and is a specific configuration.

Because the directory "img" exists, but an "index.html" doesn't, we get the generic error.

So, why does going to, for example, http://rocketpoppeteers.com/img/something.gif give a page that just says "Rocket Poppeteers"? If you look at the source of this page (and any of the error pages), you'll see it's trying to load an image from "img/temp.gif". This is a relative path. So, your browser is attempting to access http://rocketpoppeteers.com/img/img/temp.gif , which is just the same error page, so your browser can't process it as an image. Instead, your browser displays the image's alternate text, which simply says "Rocket Poppeteers".

Yeah thanks for clearly that up, I had a feeling what I was trying to do wouldn't work I just have absolutely no knowledge of webdesign so I was throwing it out there.

The final "Slash" means: Look for something?

This works: http://www.rocketpoppeteers.com/index
This, does not work: http://www.rocketpoppeteers.com/index/

Just tossing this out there.

First, the URL you linked gets redirected to another domain, www.rocketpoppeteers.coming.com, and nothing will load from that. So I have no clue what you're seeing after that.

This is pretty much the same as the prior example given before my first post.

Your first example .../index works because browsers are being directed to open the index page in the main domain director. This is a common command which allows browsers to find a site's main page without typing the "index.htm" part of a URL — you automatically get directed to the index page just by typing the domain.

Your second example doesn't work completely because the site seems to be redirecting all false page requests to a 'gutted' html page — it's the basics of the RP main index page, but the graphic required to show it is not in the correct (relative) directory to display.

My *guess* is that they don't want anyone snooping through the RP domain's FTP file directory by guessing subfolder names, etc. Any browser request "guessing" to find a hidden/unlinked page in the domain is being redirected to a 'blank' index page to stop such an FTP search or view.

Any request to directly view site files via FTP automatically gets redirected to this dummy page instead. That's my guess, anyway.

Wouldn't there be some "residue" ala the HLM site?

I mentioned (on one of the treads) I used "updater" software that would send me an email if a site was updated.
This software does not work on STIES (as it seems to be stuck in a constant state of update?!); and I have been told the software is considered "off limits" in these types of ARGs as it puts me at an unfair advantage (i.e. the Cloverfield debauchery).

Small typo there FilmEdge is instead directing to an invalid subdomain...of what happens to be a porn site.

I think you meant www.rocketpoppeteers.comimg (The extra .com was likely added on by your browser)

And it looks as if they've changed it as all folders now redirect to www.rocketpoppeteers.comfoldername

Wonder if they changed it because of all the attention it's been getting here.

Although I would like to state for the record that this is an accepted method of finding new sites, I can think of one arg off the top of my head (namely bolsid * AzureWolf * waves to Nighthawk) that used this method.

ETA: Now that I think about it the change in handling of invalid folders could be an indicator that they're getting ready to open the site up, just spec though.
