Anyone notice the rocket pop on the letter today and the website are not the same?

Yes, looks like the traditional Rocket Pop you get from ice cream trucks.

OK this may be a stupid question, but how does one get an Astronaut ID?

Hey Dan, I think you already got the answer, but for other new players reading along:

Print out the hidden Rocket Poppeteers files on the STIES website —

Quote:
Found that command ".PRINT RSCOM8" prints a newspaper article from July 26th 1963.

Hidden message found:
Quote:
"No certainty if a live may be after us. We go underground."

Gamers start mailing their spaceman names to:

Poppeteers
P.O. Box #1331
Minnot, ND 58702

With completed maze

On that mail-to-join coupon, you write your desired Astronaut name (really what nickname under which you want to play the ARG).

Apparently now the PMs are sending letters back to registered players using their astronaut name.

IM SO EXCITED TO GET MY LETTER. ive had a suspision for a while that this whole thing might take place in Massachusetts. Alot of things are pointing to it. First the fact that the PDP-11 simulator was made in Acton, MA. Then Josh saying he contacted someone in Boston for the coelacanth(though there was some speculation it was Boston, England), then I saw someone who thought that the tide charts are for Cape Cod. AND NOW THIS. the paper company(that Josh possibly works at) is from Massachusetts. Just a hunch.

Have to do this Trout I mentioned it last post previous page.

Posts were being added faster than I could scan and type.

Except that you posted in this thread before your other post, so your timing is a bit wrong for that defense. Oh, and don't crosspost threadjack irrelevant stuff bumping old threads like that again, OK?

Moon position on the letter compared to the HLM chart

If the outer space orb to the left of "Coop's" head is the moon--hard to determine from the upload, but if it is, the angle of the "crescent" is not the same as what we see on the moon on Josh's July chart for the last days of the month. For those of you who have received you letters (lucky dogs, lol) does the object in question look like a planet (sort of does to me), or a moon phase?

Also, were all of your envelopes postmarked the 13th of July?

Me too

Moon Unit Stardust reporting

Took em forever ;-p I got my reply from Rocket Poppeteers in this afternoon's mail. It looks like it's on gray recycled style paper, thick and grainy with a faint image of Coop and the same rockets/plantets/stars pops and logo as the ad.

Dear Moon Unit Stardust (handwritten, the rest is types)

Welcome to the Rocket Poppeteers Astronaut Program!

Rocket Poppeteers is looking for the best and brightest to help Captain "Coop" Cooper with his biggest space adventure ever!!!

Do you want to join the fight to protect outer space?
Do you have what it takes to become a certified Rocket Poppeteers Astronaut? Just like Captain "Coop" Cooper, Rocket Poppeteers Astronauts are strong and courageous. Only the brave, true, and loyal candidates will be able to succeed. Are you ready to begin?

Remember, kids: Real Spacemen Love Rocket Poppeteers!!!

/end

The text by the rocket pop on the left bottom says: Super Speedflier Fleet
The text inside the star right bottom says: SPACE CHALLENGE! How many stars are on this page?

Logo center bottom.

And of course I should've known there'd be a dozen pages when I came to check in and update ;-p

The postmark shows as Minot, ND 58701 sent July 13, though the return address shows the zip as 58702

----------------

Now I'll go read the whole thread and catch up!

Zip codes for Minot, Oh

Minot, Oh lists the following zips:
58701
58702
58703
58704
58705
58707

Oddly, 58706 is not yet registered (according to one net source: http://zipinfo.com/cgi-local/zipsrch.exe?zip=58706&cnty=cnty&ac=ac&tz=tz&ll=ll&cd=cd)

It's not uncommon to have a branch office where the mail is received, and yet, once the forms are collected, and letters are ready to send, they're posted from a closer local branch.

Edit: Not Oh, but ND, doh!

I can understand screwing up my last name, drop one letter, but how do you screw up an easy word like Sargent??? And in such an outstanding manner... sergearrt??? But no sweat, just adds some uniqueness to it.

That's true - how do you screw up an easy word like Sergeant? Wink
Kidding.

Congrats guys, nice to see them rolling in. Hopefully I will get mine in the post tomorrow.

Thanks for the large scan Ras, I can really zoom in on that puppy. It's times like this I miss my Photoshop Crying or Very sad

Some good ideas bouncing around. Hopefully the Space Challenge star count will lead to something.

Anyone else think that when you zoom in on Saturn it looks pissed?

Off to study the scan!
