Re: An idea

So this came into my head today, it is next to impossible to do anything on Manhatten Island without a scare of some type, which makes me think that the treasure is buried someplace else. Maybe while we are waiting for the videos we can start thinking about the other Boroughs?

Unless they got permission?
I don't know who you'd have to go to for that kind of permission but this isn't a small affair, it's not hard to conceive of.

Just hypothesising here, of course, I know it's both unlikely to be possible and out of spirit of the game... I assume it would be considered cheating to hunt the treasure from that direction - There must be some kind of trail, perhaps public record documents relating to permits and such.

Of course, it's equally likely the treasure is hidden in some private land - owned by someone to do with the hunt, or who gave permission. Then there'd be no scare or visible trails.

Earlier someone posted that this might have something to do with NYC tourism, l would think that if it is then they would try and make it someplace accessable but tourist friendly to help promote their cause. Are there any new parks in NYC, maybe they might be trying to show them off?

Earlier this week, I went to my first game at the "new Shea" stadium. It occurs to me that since they emphasize the boroughs, it might be in a place like that. Touristy, but not in Manhattan. The Yankees have a new ballpark too, don't they?

edit: if it's gonna be in manhattan, i think it has to be out of the way, so something like... Gracie Mansion or the Cloisters.... or... the Statue of Liberty.

I don't live anywhere even remotely close to America, let alone NY, but I am totally loving muppet pirates. So I'm going to watch, lol. And play if I can.

If I give someone that elusive 'aha!' moment, and you find the treasure, will you mail me one coin? I'd be happy just to have that and frame it, put it on the wall in my lounge, and then when people ask me why I have a framed US dollar on the wall I can say "oh, I helped some people find some treasure that some muppets buried in New York".

ok - treasure is buried: implies diggable - implies grass rather than concrete

has to be public land else the 'game' element would require you to break the law - v.unlikely

has to be accessible - ie can't be in the middle of a traffic island - VERY bad press if someone got knocked down while digging it up...

that should limit it down to... how big's new york?

its not breaking the law to dig on private land if the owner allows/encourages it.

the bigger issue w/ private grassland in new york is that practically no one has a yard (unless you're the mayor, in which case you have a huge yard).

new york is huge. (manhattan alone is pretty big, add the other 4 boroughs, and its ginormous).

I have been doing a little light reading, New York has many islands through out its Boroughs, do you think it might be on one of them. The first one that comes to mind is Roosevelt Island whick is only 300 yards from the city but is like a little suburb.

Just an idea, this is not going to be easy though there is a lot of New York and the treasure could be anywhere.

Twitter

I dont know if anyone else has been following the Twits of the Pirates, but they are saying some outlandish things. They have mentioned the controversy with mel Gibson andf talking about different nationalities. I am starting to get a idea that this is not NYC Tourism.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Mulligan's Twitter had one about lost & found, it's an expired post on Manhattan's craigslist...so it's a consideration to check.

I'm wondering if these general sounding posts might be clues and hints...things about favorite cakes and pies, or his pants are on fire, fried chicken day, etc. could they be alluding to actual shops and stores in some particular area where the treasure would be hidden?

Like this one from Captain

#PirateTip 10: Dividin' treasure: Dig a hole. Push yer lootin' partner down hole. Cover up hole with sharks an' cannibals an' gunpowder.

Is there a spot with sharks, cannonballs, gun powder? Like statues or something in a park?

See where I'm headed?

Just a thought...

Did anyone else notice that the only person that the Captain happens to be following on twitter is Simon Pegg? Who happens to be starring in The Adventures of TinTin: The Secret of The Unicorn, which happens to be about a treasure hunt?

Could be a total coincidence, or a clue to who might be behind this. After all, the movie is being directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson, so the budget would be there for this kind of stunt.
