I think that Der Grossman's not mentioned outright in EMH. The box that Greenfeathers found had german written on it and we made the leap, ourselves.

As for the crit that DoctorOdd left, I don't see the problem. Something being free doesn't mean that it has to be mediocre. Why would DocOdd have left a crit like that if he didn't want to help the guys out? There's a difference between critiquing and being a bitch-ass flamer: DocOdd left specific things that he thought were dragging TT down, and suggested ways to fix 'em. A flamer would just have written what was wrong and been done with it (maybe leaving a few other retarded comments in the process.)

Having someone offer help isn't arrogance -- having trained people to toss ideas around with and whittle down the crap means that the final product is all the more awesome for the rest of us. Nobody said that the TT-makers would have to follow DocOdd's suggestions to the letter, but being made aware of what kind of impact their videos are having on their audience is important. Once they're aware, they can decide if they want to make changes or if they want to play with what they're doing to subvert their own setup.

Criticism is not meant to be discouragement and doesn't necessarily need to be laced with compliments to be effective. Grow a thicker skin: you'll be happier in the long-run and those of you who get crits on the blogs or vlogs that you're running will definitely benefit from chewing on outside perspective!

Great post, Dray. I am new to Unfiction and haven't totally absorbed the community standards, but DoctorOdd's post seemed fine to me. He didn't just crap on TribeTwelve (as I did earlier Embarassed) but provided constructive criticism.

My IRL hobby is brewing beer. When I give a bottle to a friend, I don't want to hear "OMG this is the greatest thing ever created!" because I know it's not. I want to know what they liked and what needs work. I'd wager ARG/chaotic fiction authors who aren't egomaniacs feel the same way Smile

It was nice to see someone with a high post count say that. In my limited time here I've seen constructive criticism get shouted down so I'm glad that's not official policy. I'll try to be more constructive myself.

No, but if someone offers me a hot dog that's sans ketchup (that's representing story coherence) but has excellent use of mustard (that's representing the slenderman), I'll eat it. And sure, I'll ask if they've got ketchup. What I won't do is throw the hot dog in their face and scream that they're terrible cooks and morons and bad people and everything... or compare it to a shit sandwich.

Your profile picture, posts like this, Yenta would be on the breadline for missing a match like this.

Yenta was the name of the matchmaker in Fiddler on the Roof. It's also, as it turns out, the title of a rather cleverly named social matchmaking site for Jewish singles.

This was definitely a story from the original SA forum, but it's a great video adaptation of it. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of excess text at the end, it was unneeded.

Sure its all cool and nice to reference the old mythos, but to copy one word for word almost? not cool beans. Maybe they should try to write their own scenarios?

...Or pay others to write things for them. >: D

Also, crits =/= calling people morons and screaming at them. Not always. Sometimes people get stupid and mix them together but if that's the case, it's the creators responsibility, having just read it and gone to take shower so that they can sob miserably for a few hours, to cut through the crap and listen for anything that might actually be useful.

I'd still beeatchslap the person who thought that flaming and critting in the same post were a good idea, though!

What if Karl posted the original story online. I mean he seems to be Internet swavy.

What I'm wondering is, the main guy mentioned he called up his friend to translate, but his friend wasn't present at the meeting. Was he just gonna record everything his grandpa said and just sit there and stare at him with a blank look on his face until he told him to get out, or what? It seems a bit strange he would just walk in there, knowing his Grandpa only speaks German, and not bring any form of translator until after he leaves.
