[spec] Durga and other AIs as physical

One thing that always baffled me about Halo was how Cortana projected herself physically; enough to slap an object out of the Master Chief's hand at one point. My question is... if she can do this, can the other AIs do this as well? Since Melissa describes herself as being "in a desert," "on a griddle of sand," and also in an abacus she (and, by extension, the Sleeping Princess) is probably existing only on a physical computer, and a computer of our time, especially since nobody of this time has a computer with the abillity to project imaginary women. (however, as somebody brought up... wide awake and physical...)

However, Durga might be projecting herself. This would explain the odd shifting in stereo she makes occasionally; also, when Jersey first mistakes her for a porn ad, he remarks, "for a quality experience, the girls have to be real..." which would seem to be a strange remark to make about a two-dimensional display (however, I could be wrong, not my [ahem] area of expertise). Also, imagining Durga as a physical presence makes you re-envision the scenes entirely; imagine Durga crossing her legs and smiling regally at Jersey, trying to get him to like her so that she will not give her back, and Jersey slouching on his bed or pacing around the room, trying to figure out how he got himself into this.

(However, if Durga were moving around independently of whatever's recording their voices, it would, of course, lead to the question of where/what the recording device is; but I imagine it would be Jersey's computer.)

I understand a lot of our speculation has excluded the possibility of AIs having a physical presence; it would be interesting to see if rethinking our data with the knowledge of this possibility can show us anything new. Can any Halo fans tell us more about how AIs manage to project themselves physically?

I would love to help out here, but I'm not feeling so good and I don't know where Cortana slaps something out of Master Chief's hand.

What I do remember is Cortana slapping the Monitor to the floor of the control room. That was a moment most Haloers will remember fondly as the only time the Monitor was hurt in Halo.

I think that had to do with the abilities of the Forerunner technology.

Sorry, I'd love to be more helpful, but I feel quite sick and don't know where to look.

I think Durga doesn't have an interactive projection.

Why?:

"Don't."
"Don't what?"
"Don't try reinitializing the system with the Lidel Lidux package."
"How did you know..." <--- Jersey wouldn't have said this if a hologram was sitting there WATCHING him insert the Lidux cartridge.
"Input buffer." <--- notice how she doesn't say: well, I'm right here watching you.
"You're a navy sentinel aren't you." <--- he would have said: "You look like a navy sentinel."
"No. There were two of them trying to get past your security bot though."
The quotes might not be 100% - they're from memory.

I did a search, and this came up earlier in: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=70913&highlight=footsteps+jersey#70913

Summary: During Jersey's second chapter his voice and footsteps remain in the center of the soundspace, while Durga's pans back and forth, indicating that the recording is coming from Jersey's chatter (speculated to be some sort of wearable computer or PDA due to Hiroyuki losing all his information along with his chatter). So Durga seems to be in one place, also speculated to be in Jersey's computer. So I don't think she exists as a projection in this case.

I heard that as "Don't try reinitiliazing the system with a low analytics package".
