Ah but we will anyway Cool ... In reference to my previous point there are no overlay permutations: direct, indirect of tangential. But there's still new info in the letters, besides count the stars!

Okay, so here's a point that was previously made (waaay back in the stack by Ras originally I think) which I thought I'd bring up again with the shiny new pictures and mootings:

Anyone else think that the "moon" doesn't really look too much like the moon??

If you compare it to the Lunar Atlas the concordance is pretty poor. This could be artistic license but still... And what's with Saturn, bit random or blatant clue?? The letters clearly give us 1/2 an inch more to work on....

So with that in mind I've gone and looked for matching lunar bodies (list included for reference). The only ones that seem to match are:

    Moon
Included due to proximity and HLM maps, but poor overlap
    Mimas
Mimas' most distinctive feature is a colossal impact crater 130 kilometres (81 mi) across, named Herschel after the moon's discoverer. Mimas was one of the Gigantes of Greek mythology. Like the other giant sons of Gaia, Mimas had serpents for legs and was born fully armoured.
    Tethys
Tethys is named after the titan Tethys of Greek mythology.

NB. Latter 2 are moons of Saturn. Attached are the comparison images.

..... Is there a point to this, well maybe.. Now for pure speculation:

Saturn (the Roman equivalent of Kronos in Greek mythology), was the leader of the Titans. The Titans ruled during the golden age, before they were overthrown by the younger gods. Gaia, rightly a bit miffed, convinced the Giants to rise up against the Gods. Eventually they (giants) were defeated and buried by the gods beneath the earth, where their writhing caused volcanic activity and earthquakes. Man was born from the blood of the giants

Panspermia hypothesis anyone (Impact crators, gods, titans)??
........

Additionally I've been looking for a matching Rocket. Though I can't yet find a precise match, it is pretty similar to the Saturn generation of Rockets. Any advances??

Important Saturn Dates
Saturn was first visited by Pioneer 11 in September 1st 1979

August 1981, Voyager 2 continued the study of the Saturn system
July 1, 2004-2005, the Cassini–Huygens spacecraft

Great research. Never occurred to be that the moon in the logo was not necessarily our moon. This opens up a whole other realm of speculation and thought about all the clues we have so far. And the photos you matched do seem to match. Good work.

ive been racking my brain over what to do with the space challenge answer when we figure out the right one. i posted this in the space challenge thread too but it seemed relevant here too. i was thinking what if we are to plug in the correct answer after the rocket poppeteers web address ala rocketpoppeteers.com/16 or whatever the right answer is. Seems the consensus is the site will open eventually but what if we have to find a way to activate it . Just a thought, im probably way off here but thought id share this with the group.

FYI: while multi's research is good, the idea of the moon being one of Saturn or another planet isn't new here at all. Check back much earlier in the threads for more discussion about Titan and Enceladus when we were discussing why the coupon maze ended at Saturn. They were leading candidates for spots which might support life, in case Saturn might be a clue where the 'thing' came from. All speculation then as well, of course.

Just got my letter here in NJ. Apparently my astronaut name was already taken, so the blank space was marked with "(seeback)", and a notice was printed on the other side telling me I had to resubmit my form…

Damn you, "Ryan - From England!" "Mike Dexter" was mine! MINE!!!

But not first! FIRST!!! Very Happy Sorry you missed out on your preferred name, though.

Note to future players: don't hesitate sending in materials when the ARG offers... speed is often your ally.

star walk app

Anyone have the star walk app for iphone? lets you put in a location, time and see the stars from that spot. Minot maybe then match it against the letter stars.

For those who haven't gotten their letter yet, I would suggest resending another entry coupon just in case the USPS lost the first one. Couldn't hurt.

Received the letter today! (nice to see that they go global with this)

Just wondering... the numbers and barcode on the front of the envelop are these printed by the US postal services or are they from Rocketpoppeteers?

If its what I think you are referring to it's standard US Postal Service stamps for mail sorting by computer.

Postal mark/ which moon is the moon we see?

Yes, Tenshi is correct, that bar code tells sorting machines everything from destination country, state, city, and in some case even the mail carrier's route where you live.

Regarding this not being OUR moon, it doesn't seem to make any sense having a man and a young child pointing to such a crisp, clean image of (whatever planet's the image is of) the moon.

We know that for illustation purposes the moon is often depicted as being larger in the night's sky than it really is, but for a moon from another planet, it just seems to be a stretch for me, but that's just me.

I don't think it would be that much of a stretch, I mean after all, they're asking us to help Coop defend outer space, not Earth. Perhaps other planets were "colonized"?

(I realize that no other planets in our solar system can support our life forms without modification, but considering that this part of the ARG at least is seemingly a piece of fiction (It reminds me of an old b&w tv show or something) then why not?)

test on letter

Just for your information,

I did some tests to detect invisible ink (heat, cold, UV, IR, scan/copy). And guess what, nothing came out. I was hoping a lot from the cold test because of the frozen pop on the paper. The only(easy) one left is the iodine vapor test. There surely is a reason behind this choice of high grade paper or is it only because of the the need of a recognizable watermark.
