Where do you find actors?

So, I'm going to be running an ARG on my college campus (Ball State) this coming fall. We have a fantastic theater department, but, unfortunately, I don't feel like I can use any of those people. I'm afraid if I do then those actors will be harassed constantly with IG stuff in their OG lives, and I think it makes it very hard to suspend your disbelief when super-secret agent guy is clearly the dopey fellow who sits next to you in Biology class.

I'm in the Indianapolis area over the summer, and I've been hitting up Craigslist and trying to get the word out through my usual social networks. But so far, not a lot of response.

So, how do I find actors who do not live in the town the game will be run in, but are willing to make the drive? Any thoughts?

This is a very late reply and not entirely helpful since it sounds like you're in the states. However, anyone who is searching the forums might find this answer helpful...

There's a UK website to find actors:

www.castingcallpro.co.uk

It's free to use and you can find a whole bunch of professional actors. It's actually where I found all my actors for Project Ophiuchus. Be sure to be descriptive in your casting call and tell them exactly what the project involves and how much you can pay (lots of actors will work for free so long as they get expenses and a visible credit somewhere).

I highly recommend advertising on Mandy.com - it's more widely recognized as the international standard for actors looking for work independently of their agents.

Backstage.com is THE resource for actors on either coast. They also have online notices for either coast. It does cost $$ to post a notice, but you generally get a wide response of actors.

I second mandy.com -- Lots of people look at that.

Also, Actors Access (www.actorsaccess.com) is the real breakdown service, talent agents and managers look at that, but you can also make a notice available to actors directly. Very high-quality talent on this one.
