I don't know about anyone else, but the thing you suggested might be an instrument table looked to me (my quick glance first impression) like the sled from the Craig's List estate sale.
What do you think?

It's not (many hours at university studying that stuff)
Have spent MANY days in deserts and kinda reminds me of some of the rock formations found there. Back to the original point, my knowledge only extends to humans regarding histology: http://cas.bellarmine.edu/tietjen/images/Coelacanth.jpg
.......... Still reckon it's rock though...

Sorta looks like the sled upside down. But a sled on a train from Area 51 seems weird. Maybe it's an experimental super hi-tech sled. Ok, probably not.

Yeah, but wouldn't a running projector also be weird on a cargo car (I'm assuming) on a train also? Would it still be upright and running after a crash like that? I don't think so, I have a few Super8 projectors (and cameras too!) and I would think that after a crash of that magnitude, the projector wouldn't still be running.

I thought last clip looked like pictures from the old Soviet Venus landers - the Venera series.

[OT] malware warning from chrome slightly off-topic, but anyone else running google chrome? I get a "warning: visiting this site may harm your computer" when viewing this specific thread.... anyone done any stenography checking on the inline linked gif/jpg's?
not for IG purposes of course, but anything potentially more malicious or malware-ish in nature.

Looking again at the trailer ; off topic, chrome error I get the error as well in chrome; "icons.iconator.com appears to host malware – software that can hurt your computer or otherwise operate without your consent. Just visiting a site that hosts malware can infect your computer." One of the users that has responded to this thread has an avatar/icon hosted from the icons.iconnator.com website.
Back on topic... I like the sled idea. When I look at it again, now all I see is a sled.

[OT] Sorry, it's my avatar! Whoops, that icon issue would be my bad, I was googling around when picking my avatar photo. I'll change it now if it causes an alert!!

Firefox won't even show the anim. gif. Downloaded it and checked with Antivir, no find. Dunno...
Edit: And, no, I did not open the downloaded file. Went straight to the bin. Gotta be careful these days, don't you .

Teaser close-up composite with 8mm projector And what happens to the projector in the last images of the series?
are there separate images that just get smashed in?
does the projector explode?
or morph into some thing else??
(my apologies -- I got space aliens and star wars on the brain.)

The item that looks like the Super 8 Projector I believe is a Train Tuck/Bogie missing a wheel (probably due to the accident). I can see a likeness but I don't believe it's a projector.
Bogie
The picture you say "looks like a close-up of histological slide" is probably just damaged or burnt film on the Super 8 reel. You can see an artists example here .

Well I am studying a BSc... However I don't think it's anything natural.
In my opinion it looks like the film has started to melt as it's running through the projector. A similar effect is seen in the opening of "True Blood" only using cellophane or something similar. (I tried to find an example but haven't had any luck)
As the film melts it begins to shrink, pulling holes in the softened surface of the film. The light areas are the holes which have been pulled open and the darker/black areas are where the film is bunched up.
I think this fits with the look of damaged super 8 film.
