I'm guessing that Jan is the "Bigger bitch"

I agree, she is a mean one. I feel scared of her just listening to her stamp on that guy's mangled foot.

Jan= Twisted Evil

Definitely. Although--maybe just because she's young--she doesn't seem to realize that the same thing applies to her as well ...

Friend or not

Well if was old Aiden I would be more than a little nervous about having her around. Evil or Very Mad

But it sounds like Jan took the stupid-cops idea and is out doing a little freelancing of her own. If he can get a way with it why not her? And hey it's not like she KILLS the guy, rather all she was doing is some minor remodeling on him.

Psychology [SPEC]

Jan is over compensating for her unwilling participation with the stupid_cop in killing DRT.

"Oh, I, I guess I should have been out on the streets murdering bad guys, huh? Strangling jaywalkers on my way home from school?" Jan, asset.wav

There is a psychological theory about how the victim of a crime will begin to identify with the perpetrator of the crime, (the victim) making excuses for what happened to themselves and why they deserved the punishment.

Unfortunately, I cannot find a link to the specific theory. Anna Freud is the author of the theory though.

I'm betting that Jan gets in over her head and Jersey/Durga get involved somehow. So far I am ejoying J & D the most out of all the threads. They certainly have an interesting relationship.

Now all we need is for Kamal to grow some backbone...

She has a book called Ego and the Mechanisms of Defense.

I did a Google search on "Anna Freud" and "Stockholm Syndrome" (which I had heard about reading X-Men comics, incidentally enough) and found this, written by a professor guy, on the subject:

A professor who isn't interested in key lime pie wrote:
Identification with the aggressor is a version of introjection that focuses on the adoption, not of general or positive traits, but of negative or feared traits. If you are afraid of someone, you can partially conquer that fear by becoming more like them. Two of my daughters, growing up with a particularly moody cat, could often be seen meowing, hissing, spitting, and arching their backs in an effort to keep that cat from springing out of a closet or dark corner and trying to eat their ankles.

A more dramatic example is one called the Stockholm Syndrome. After a hostage crisis in Stockholm, psychologists were surprised to find that the hostages were not only not terribly angry at their captors, but often downright sympathetic. A more recent case involved a young woman named Patty Hearst, of the wealthy and influential Hearst family. She was captured by a very small group of self-proclaimed revolutionaries called the Symbionese Liberation Army. She was kept in closets, raped, and otherwise mistreated. Yet she apparently decided to join them, making little propaganda videos for them and even waving a machine gun around during a bank robbery. When she was later tried, psychologists strongly suggested she was a victim, not a criminal. She was nevertheless convicted of bank robbery and sentenced to 7 years in prison. Her sentence was commuted by President Carter after 2 years.

The Wikipedia entry on the Stockholm Syndrome is here.

Here's something else I found Googling, but it was on a site so offensive I am not going to link to it (they were quoting an outside source, so don't worry, this excerpt is all well and good):

A quoted professor woman wrote:
Victims' Observed Strategies for Survival

Victims have to concentrate on survival, requiring avoidance of direct, honest reaction to destructive treatment. Become highly attuned to pleasure and displeasure reactions of victimizers. As a result, victims know much about captors, less about themselves. Victims are encouraged to develop psychological characteristics pleasing to captors: dependency, lack of initiative, inability to act, decide, think, etc. Both actively develop strategies for staying alive, including denial, attentiveness to victimizer's wants, fondness for victimizer accompanied by fear, fear of interference by authorities, and adoption of victimizer's perspective. Hostages are overwhelmingly grateful to terrorists for giving them life. They focus on captor's kindnesses, not his acts of brutality. Battered women assume that the abuser is a good man whose actions stem from problems that she can help him solve. Both feel fear, as well as love, compassion and empathy toward a captor who has shown them any kindness. Any acts of kindness by the captors will help ease the emotional distress they have created and will set the stage for emotional dependency of Counterproductive Victim Responses

Denial of terror and anger, and the perception of their victimizers as omnipotent people help to keep victims psychologically attached to victimizers. High anxiety functions to keep victims from seeing available options. Psychophysical stress responses develop.

NOTES:

Excerpts from, Domestic Violence Response Training Curriculum, November 1991, by Jeri Martinez

And finally, from Yahoo:

The experienced web searchers at Yahoo, who probably use Google anyway, wrote:
It's important to note that these symptoms occur under tremendous emotional and often physical duress. The behavior is considered a common survival strategy for victims of interpersonal abuse, and has been observed in battered spouses, abused children, prisoners of war, and concentration camp survivors.

And that ends my ten minutes of Google-fu. Huzzah!

Wow, good info. I don't think Jan quite fits that profile. I think she is just a teen drunk on power. My question is what happens when her father/aunt/cop brings her back down to earth.

Somebody's gonna notice her unusual powers, and start asking questions... and then a lot of people are going to get hurt. People you don't even know about!

Going [OT] a little here, well, OK, a lot. Stockholm Syndrome by Muse (homepage here) is one of their best songs to date... and it is referenced on the wikipedia Surprised I was surprised.

I apologise for the abundance of links.
