I wonder if the person telling Josh to take down the sale listings has seen his Coelacanth journal, or if his admonition to stop posting publicly was just about Craig's List?

The mention of "sale listings" and the immediate deletion of the CL posts proved that the unknown responder was talking directly about Craigslist.

Well, what I liked most about this update is that this is the full emailed conversation. Whatever else comes will not be within this same format again.

I don't state anything about time here. Why would I be holding my breath?

Shouldn't we be focusing on who Josh's father is now? I have searched with no good results yet.

I do not know. I strongly believe that the last message having no carrots '>' implies that this was the complete conversation these two had before another email conversation.

Yes, I have been looking for a dad Minker too, but obviously there's not much of anything at all in this field.

not sure what you mean by before another email conversation...? but previous msgs also had no carrots for the first line... or maybe I'm not sure what you're saying.

So, Josh takes down the CL items as requested in the last msg, but what I don't get is where/how/when he was asking questions, and whether the first message Josh received, "Stop posting publicly. I can answer your questions. I have proof" is his first msg at all .
did Minker post something coded or something obvious
in his HLM or other suspected posts... i.e. the authentication request which would have shed light on his discovery of the film or "it"... How does Josh's possession of this film clip come to the attention of Mystery Person in the first place?

And which of the CL estate items (hat with monkey pin, horse clock, swan, frog, sled, polyester dress...) may be important above and beyond the film clip?

Well, these clues 1963...pill box hat... JFK's speech in the May 13th newspaper... remind me of the infamous footage of JFK's assassination... but that's all I'm getting. Interesting though that the portion of the newspaper we can read begins with "danger in further testing." Esp. since something's been "reactivated."

We assumed Minker's dad was dead because Josh is handling his mom's affairs, but his mom and dad could have been divorced. .(ok that was a random thought).

Did father Minker work for the military? Did he make the film or find it?

Lots of questions at least!

They could have had other conversations, but somehow i doubt it. To me it seems like Josh was contacted by someone he doesn't know well, and i think that if this unknown person was trying to tell josh to stop posting with some sense of urgency/anonymity that he would limit it to just one conversation and cut to the chase. I could be wrong, there is a little bit of familiarity in the dialogue, but i don't see josh and this other person having multiple conversations. I think this is just the latest dialogue exchanged and that the 'father' text is the most recent message (no carrots), and not the definite end of the conversation. The new printout just seems like an update for us of what new messages have been sent.

It looked like things (by virtue of the fewer > marks) might be winding down, but with how "out there" (which I think is a rather good thing, for the most part) JJ can be, who knows what is going to happen next.

As has been mentioned over and over, there's a long way to go before the movie begins, and I'm enjoying the roller coaster ride.

I think the real problem would be with the JJ/Spielberg team being able to live up to the hype. I can only imagine the disappointment within both camps if it turned out that the viral campaign ended up being better than the movie.

I mean, the "scariest thing I ever saw" (is obviously subjective) and seems like quite a level to achieve.

Ditto as far as looking for male "Minker" family members that are IG.

Yeah, been looking for the Farger as well. Like everyone else, no luck.

Wasn't the "Stop posting publicly" printout a day after the Minker ATS question? I wish there was a way to see who viewed his post that day. Whomever it is speaking with Minker must frequent that site. Maybe they stumbled upon his post, but I cannot put together how they both come to use the PDP-11 for communication purposes? Did they send Minker a PM? I don't recall seeing this, but has anyone tried to log into Minker's ATS account? They had to make the password something we have seen or could easily figure out? I mean the ATS post couldn't just be for the purpose of tying Minker to the Posting Publicly printout right? If so it was a waste IMO.

Sorry, tired and rambling.

I would guess that the remote access for the computer which contains all the files associated with this mystery from 1979 as well as the super 8 film was among the stuff left in the attic/basement that Josh probably started sorting thru after his moms death and he has plugged it in and got this person ...Josh may even be the one who unknowingly reactivated expcnv.. .. I would guess that this belonged to Josh's dad who we may find out was working on this case back then and may have disappeared doing so..and this might be someone who knew and worked with his dad (or could it even be his Dad?) who knows about Josh and also knows that his father had this terminal so if its active again, it must be his son?. thus the need for secrecy as mentioned in the printout... in case they are watching..

Which brings us to the message hidden in the newspaper..
