Tom flashback

In the flashback of Tom chopping off head of the statue thing and then the one behind it split in two. Does anyone think that could mean a bust of someone in the park? Also the chinese finger trap is solved by going inward not outward. That may come into play somehow. We should remember that.

I know where there is a waterfall in Central Park - but it is way up in the north east end of the park. I guess i have to watch the video to see what it looks like exactly. It isn't near where you guys were walking.

I have some other ideas but I really need to watch the video first! I've just been going off the comments here.

I've used the number on the lamposts often to figure out where I am in the park and how far I've been going. They are heavily relied upon by runners and walkers to mark how far they have gone on a route. I dont think there is a lamppost for every number...if that makes sense.

I know this park really well, I spent almost 25 years in it and I even helped plan a few puzzle trails there myself. Smile

The path I took

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/el_uste/RRmap.jpg

The blue line indicates the simplest path where the next clue is a straight shot. Occasionally, the next clue was even visible from the last one.

The red line indicates an alternate, yet still valid route.

For both options, I did stick to actual paved walkways, even though google maps may not reflect them in satellite or street views.

Note that where I placed my starting point was where I felt Wallach Walk began--just outside the Children's Zoo. There was a small placard there which said "Wallach Walk", then up at the next intersection was a circle embedded in the ground with a longer dedication to the Wallachs. I could not find anything North of 67th St. with the word "Wallach" attached. Apart from the Morse statue, I don't see any compelling reason the trail would start on 72nd St. I did not really consider how one would get to my starting point, but the closest entrance would be 67th & 5th (there is a NY Infantry statue there, but I don't believe it has any significance to the puzzle).

The 3 red tags I added to the map were (from top to bottom): A Plymouth Rock statue, The Morse Statue, and Overlook Rock. Technically, I saw nothing on or near Overlook Rock itself that specifically called it "Overlook Rock," though it was by far the tallest rock formation in that area of the park.

Another thing to note is that Grand Army Plaza actually extends further south across Central Park South to Pulitzer Fountain. Not sure that makes much of a difference. Across the street from G.A.P. is FAO Schwartz, the Apple Store, The Plaza Hotel, and the Paris Theater.

Also of note, in my opinion, is the N/R subway station. It's possible that our pirateninja friends took the train to Brooklyn for the next set of clues... maybe Prospect Park, or even Coney Island?

I can post some pictures tomorrow if anyone's interested. Or should I just give links?

Thanks for the update czg22. Half of the fun in these things is chasing down false leads.

Anyway, I guess this explains why you couldn't actually find any of the locations of the lamp posts since all of the numbers given are odd, and presumably, therefore, are on the west side of the park. Once I get confirmed locations for the lamp posts I will update their position on the map. I still think that the numbers very likely refer to the lamp posts, so your discovery has still been very helpful.

Incidentally, the reports regarding Overlook Rock also confirm my suspicion that it may just be a fun bit of background rather than an actual clue - which is why I never plotted it on the map to begin with. The clues given in the video are pretty obvious for the most part. I think some people are over thinking the game at this point - although it might get more subtle later on.

By the way, I don't understand all this talk of waterfalls. I have watched the video a LOT and I have never seen anything in any of the flashbacks that looks even remotely like a waterfall. Can we get a screengrab posted by whoever is claiming they have found a waterfall reference?

We watched the video ten times while standing on Overlook Rock and concluded that it wasn't a waterfall because nothing was moving. Seeing it again hours later, I'm not so positive anymore.

I just assumed that that was a bank of white stone, since like you said, I never saw any water flowing down it. More to the point, where would such water be coming from in Central Park?

I don't know, but my tears were flowing pretty strong after realizing that video was not taken from Overlook Rock.

It looks like a wall at the top. Is there a dam anywhere that might have overflow water at sometimes but is dry other times?

You know, this guy would probably be able to identify any location in the park pretty easily. Anyone feel like reaching out to him via AIM/YIM or twitter?

hey guys

Okay.

So I've been following this thread all day and visited the park myself today.

Is it possible that the "little armies" clue could not be the Grand Plaza, but the statue of the 107th Infantry Memorial?
http://www.centralpark2000.com/database/107th_Infantry.html

It is right in that area.

If "Tottie" is really a clue for the chimps in the zoo, does that mean to go through the zoo?

Anyway, if you take that route, instead of going down to Overlook rock, it does kind of look like a footprint/circle thing. (But I think the footprint is just to say, to walk the route). It is a BIG shot in the dark, but just some more ideas to throw out there.

The other thing is, unless this is all supposed to be spelling out some clue - my question is, what is to stop someone from just watching the last video and getting the treasure? So, I'm with those of you who think there is a word or something to get out of all of this.

The only way it wouldn't be is if the next video said, where you left of, go 5 blocks south, or something, you know?

Just my two cents.

That's the statue I mentioned as being at the entrance to 67th St & 5th Ave. The dedication underneath the statue reads:

"SEVENTH REGIMENT NEW YORK
ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTH UNITED STATES INFANTRY
(can't read this part so well) IN MEMORIAL (?) 1913"

I think people are more drawn to Grand Army Plaza because "Grand Army" the phrase is the opposite of "Little Army" and more of a simple code consistent with the ones the pirates were coming up with in the video. There's not much to the Infantry Memorial that I can see relating to "Little Armies." The figures are at least life size. I'm not telling you you're wrong, just wanted to add some extra info.

Although now that I look at the statue again... the leader sort of looks like Eric Stoltz, who was originally supposed to be the star of Back to the Future. Maybe they want us to travel in time back to 1912 to talk to Tottie? Wink

Musings on window cell

I keep wanting to make something out of Mulligan's nonsense. So, what is a "window cell", if we spell it that way? It is a pane. Switch the P and the C and it becomes cane. I don't know if that is any more meaningful, but maybe there is some sort of cane around.

Anyway, if you don't like that one, here is a even more tangled series: Mulligan says "...E-L-E". Notice that he does not specify the first letter, presumably S, but let us suppose a soft C. Again switch the P and the C, and you get PELE. Hm, there is Pele the famous soccer player, but maybe something is missing, ala tammy's idea. What could it be? Well, the Captain uses the odd simile of "a one-legged man in a leg-having contest". What does a one-legged man, particularly a pirate, often have? Why, a PEGLEG. So maybe G is missing, and so possibly the important thing!

Well, I guess this just shows how far one can stretch sometimes. But keep your eyes open for cane or G or peglegs!

First as to the picture of the rock. The background with the water cascading over the dam is nowhere to be found in Central Park. The rock the captain is sitting on may be in the park, there are so many rocks in Central Park it may take me a while to find it.

Second I think we must think outside the park. Grand Army Plaza is plausible from the little armies clue. The Grand Army Plaza is actually outside the wall of the park.

The Chinese finger trap clue. "This TOY has me and won't let go" FAO toy store is across the street from Grand Army Plaza. Other clues pointing to FAO Schwartz: Jelly Beans (the candy story downstairs) and crayolees crayons.

"I'm going up to the highest point of the ship to clear me head and think of new codes." The top of the Empire State Building?

"Why don't we all prance up to the top deck, lock arms, and riverdance off the rotten plank"
Top Deck could refer to Top of the Rock
Riverdance could refer to Radio City Music Hall (Riverdance performs there)
Both of which are at Rockefeller Center.

So potentially outside of Central Park we have Grand Army Plaza and FAO Schwarts (59th street & 5th ave)

Empire State Building (34th Street & 5th Ave)

Rockefeller Center (49th - 52nd Streets 5th - 6th Ave)

Just guesses. But it is certain that eventually clues will lead out of Central Park.

Still don't see where replacing C for P or "ELE" for "ILL" fits in this episode.

 Too Early for the Answer
Get with it

There are EIGHT episodes to figure out. The answer isn't in the first one. This is a publicity stunt for *****. It's not going to be answered in the first episode because they gotta string you along for the ride. Keep your eyes and ears open... the answer isn't in the first episode, but the clues to lead you there are.
