End Game Speculation

My gut is telling me that the treasure chest is in Brooklyn. The two guys who are running this show live in Brooklyn and they claim to have buried the treasure back in November. I'm assuming they did it so long ago so that the ground would not look disturbed when someone finds it in the next couple of months.

It must be near where they live. One or both of them must be keeping an eye on the site of the chest. I would think daily.

They said that when someone finds the spot it will be obvious. There will be no need for random digging. And they said that it will involve digging. Or they said it's in a spot that a shovel could be used. I can't decide if it's going to be private property or public.

Thoughts? (We seem to be running out of steam on video one discussion.)

My intention is to keep producing the transcripts each Sunday soon after the episodes go live, as I think they will help keep us on track. Should I just keep posting them in this thread, or create a separate thread, or host it offline on a tumblr page? The problem with just posting them here is that they seem to be lost in the shuffle as evidenced by some of the newer guest posts.

I agree with jrc's predictions in terms of the likely level of cooperation on these boards. However, I am a little more pessimistic in that I suspect we may also see some attempts to spread misinformation as the game progresses. A lot will depend on the what the nature of the game is - something we can only speculate on at this point. It could be that the locations themselves form a picture when mapped, which give a clue as to the treasure's final resting place, or each episode could feature verbal clues, which pieced together, will point to the treasure's location.

Perhaps one of the mods could move us to Chaotic Fiction so we can make separate threads for each video. Thanks for your consideration!

Also, they've made it clear that we'll need to have all eight videos to find this treasure. Seems unlikely to me that anyone will find it sooner. Let's enjoy the journey as they intended. Very Happy

New thread or this one

I think we need the input of someone who has been on this board for a while for the local custom. This topic isn't News & Rumors anymore, but if a new thread is started, some people may miss either the new one or this one, and post lots of duplicate information and ideas.

I meant to mention, that fellowtraveler has done the lions share of "work" so far just in producing the complete (except for one of Tom's speeches) transcript. I assume he had some fun doing it. It certainly enabled a lot of the idea-swapping here that wouldn't have been as easy otherwise. Probably some of those ideas at least he found valuable and would not have come up with easily if he had not posted it.

Future transcripts might be harder, depending on the clarity of the films. For instance, in this one, what the bird said about "army" (singular) was not clear at all, and I think Crothers said "Back to the armies", not "little armies". The addition of "S" to the ends of a lot of words, both verbs and nouns, in the whole film is kind of weird. An attempt to sound piratical, I guess. It's kind of like the way that people use incorrect forms of "thou", and verbs and possessives to go with it, at Renaissance Festivals.

In the spirit of community and collaboration
Tom's Numbers / Lampposts

I found two of them.

6323: On the corner of Hecksher Ballfield #4 - the one close to Ballfield #3

6251: Between Hecksher Ballfield #3 and Umpire Rock

Couldn't find 6229. Found 6231 and 6227 Sad

I agree jrc, I think it says either battle in the armies or back to the armies. It does not sound like Cruthers says the word little at all.

Ninja Tom

Tom is saying numbers in Japanese at the point you mention. I have not heard any thoughts on a speech of his earlier on. I would guess it may not be real Japanese at all, but I have to get one of my Japanese co-workers to help.

Most of the time, Tom isn't speaking Japanese -- it's either nonsense syllables or a clever and insidious code Wink. The numbers were an exception.

Good work again czg22!

Here is the updated map. This document was the source for the numbering of the ballfields. Hopefully someone will find 6229 soon.

Well I'm happy to keep being honest and open... there's not much chance of me hopping a plane to New York, so I'm really only in it for the fun. And the off chance that someone will say "thanks, Sarah" at the end if I help them out a bit. lol

Ballfield

Duh, of course! The Luckiest Man Alive is a clue to the Heckscher ballfields.

The numbers may indeed belong to this episode in that case, and refer to the lampposts. That Cap'n is so sneaky!

Yeah I thought that it could be the ballfields or carousel as the clue "luckiest man alive" referred to "Lou Gerhig" and he is known as the "Iron Horse". Then with the knife in the eye thing I thought maybe it could have referred to the blind mule or horse used to turn the carousel in the past. Lou Gerhig was a Yankee's player so the ballfields could also be a possibility. I also think it leads me to an area outside the park but we will see about that in upcoming episodes.
Sidenote: Iron Horse can also be an early term for a train (locatmotive).

Clues
suggested spots?

1. Start at "Wallach Walk" the Wallach Walk Paver is near the zoo at around 67th St.
2. Balto Statue - follow walkway west.
3. Dairy - The Dairy Visitor Center
4. cave - continuing in an almost straight diagonal linking Balto and The Dairy, there is an archway over the footpath. Could this be the cave?
5. I am not sure if this route passes the Literary Walk where Adams's statue of Shakespeare is or not. But passing between it and Columbus Rock probably means to continue on to Columbus Circle.

If the reference to the Far Side of the World is another clue, it may mean west of Columbus Circle. There is a large globe in front of the Trump International Hotel there.

Epiphany!!! Chess = Little Armies

Isn't chess just a game of moving little armies on a map?? Google it! Wouldn't it mean that instead of the 107th Regiment Sculpture or Grand Army Plaza this means the Chess and Checkers House which is a high point in Central Park right across from the Dairy?

Central Park
more suggestions

Even though I live in NYC, I probably won't be able to hunt in Central Park. But for those who can:

If the "footprint" is significant, the shape of "The Lake" (north of the Sheep Meadow) is roughly boot-print shaped if you include Wagner Cove and close it around Cherry Hill. (Google Earth is WAY cool for this).

Also, is it a coincidence that there is a marionette theater in the Shakespeare Garden?

I thought chess and checkers would be a great match for little armies if that is what he is saying. It makes far more sense to me than the other two options.
