48 Armies = Chess and Checkers House!

So here's this from the official Central Park website:

Quote:
Location: Chess and Checkers House, inside the Park at 65th Street just west of the Dairy, offers 24 outdoor chess and checker tables. A pergola offers plenty of shade.

That means 2 armies per board times 24 tables = 48 armies... SWEET![/quote]

I wonder if this means that the puppetmasters are reading this board. I suspect they may be, since this seems to be the only forum where this game is actively being discussed and is readily googleable.

Anyway, the updated maps are here and here, showing the Chess & Checkers House in lieu of Grand Army Plaza.

interesting facts
odd facts

Ok so some of these facts might be redundant and totally out there but i think it's important to just get the creative juices flowing by just putting everything up on one post. A lot of this info i got from Wiki, google, and some Databases from Marist College Library (I'm a student there so i have exclusive access to their material).
Maddie Hayes is the name of the ship. She is a chic and smart former high-fashion model from the mid 80's TV show Moonlight. Left bankrupt when her accountant embezzles all of her money, she is forced to make a living by running the detective agency she had previously owned as a tax write-off. Using her celebrity as a former model, she brings in clients and tries to bring some order to a business previously run without any discipline. (side not: the show Moonlight was actual inspiration Shakspeare's The Taming of the Shrew he had seen in Central Park starring Meryl Streep and Raúl Juliá. The show would actually go on to parody the Shakspearean play in the season three episode Atomic Shakespeare.) Moonlighing lounge close by the park
Morse Code, "start at Wallach Walk". later captain calls it Morris code. pirate talk or something else. Samuel Morse statue is at the 72nd street entrance
Balto is the next stop. on the statue it reads "Dedicated to the indomitable spirit of the sled dogs that relayed antitoxin six hundred miles over rough ice, across treacherous waters, through Arctic blizzards from Nenana to the relief of stricken Nome in the Winter of 1925.
Endurance · Fidelity · Intelligence[3]"
Someone said Willowdale Arch as the cave. let's just role with it.
The statues of William Shakespeare and Christopher Columbus for the other clue. i think there might be something a bit more to that than just the statues why say cape and rock? but i digress
Dairy Visitor Center and Gift Shop for the ice cream mention.
Mulligan with all his toys that can be found at FAO (crayon, finger trap, Jelly beans).
Footprint that was traced, the captain says it was his footprint, maybe trace the captain's footsteps to the treasure.
Japanese numbers are not for this episode but they read 6323 6251 6229. From my understanding someone has said that they could represent lamp post markers by the ball field.
the window sill thing had me thinking a little... sill- 1)the horizontal piece or member beneath a window, door, or other opening. 2)Geology . a tabular body of intrusive igneous rock, ordinarily between beds of sedimentary rocks or layers of volcanic ejecta. cill is an alternate spelling of that word. could sell be Cell or Sell. E-L-E? let's get back to that later.
during the flashback we see the location of possibly where he could be but it difficult to tell where the place is (white rocks, waterfall, a dam?)
also during the flashback the telescope that Mulligan is carrying had a red cloth on it and when he is back on the ship the cloth is gone. We never get a look at Tottie but it is said to be a stuffed animal and it appears to have yellow hair or feathers.
Litty Army or little army- chess and checkers in CP? statue at the Grand Army Plaza?
Tottie: The Story of a Doll's House-"Dolls are not like people, people choose, but dolls can only be chosen"???
Crothers is accident prone and gets a knife in the eye. i feel like this might be a pattern to the episodes. maybe this episode we have to see the statues in the park to figure out the path of gold and say in a later episode crothers looses his arm hailing a cab....? just a thought.
the only place the treasure is not is Central Park. It is burried, and we will be traveling outside of Manhattan at somepoint.
on another site as well as this one people have said,"I think we are looking for 8 words. One from each of the 8 videos to spell out where to dig"
rows nest and it being the highest place of the ship could they be talking about Summit Rock the highest place in the park or Umpire rock towards the ball fields.
Also what is Tom Holding?
Can't wait to see the next episode! Maybe more of this will make sense

Hello All

I came across this board looking for a place to follow the game with other people. I have read all of the posts from the beginning and I'll say that I'm in favor of sharing tips, clues, and information publicly. Brilliant work, everyone!

I'm a NJ native with easy access to NY. Also, I'm a high school teacher so I have some extra time on my hands right now to go hunting if need be.

Here's something I think I might have picked up on: during the flashback at 3 minutes and 40 seconds there appears to be an ACTUAL underlying Morse code, right after the scream ends. It begins simultaneously with and quieter than Mulligan's voice, but I do think it's there -- particularly between 3:43 and 3:46.

I don't know how to take apart audio or anything like that. Do we have any "morris" code experts? lol

wow...

I came across the page when i googled Balto Statue! and then promptly signed up. I'm not as smart as you all so I'm just happy to read and maybe walk the trail when I have free time after work. Did anyone check out Summit Rock on the Upper West Side of the Park?

cascade423: Tom isn't holding anything, although I admit I had the same thought you did at first. What you are seeing, the white and black striped thing with the rope like "hooks" is really just one of Tom's arms. The rope hooks are just his fingers. You can see this more clearly at 1:16 through 1:29 in the The Crew video.

By the way, when watching the flashback scene featuring Tom again, I noticed that there is something strange about the audio in the part where the Captain says: "Black Tom, perhaps the finest pirate I ever sailed with..." The word "with" sounds like it is said by an entirely different voice actor. It occurs at 4:31 in the video. Could be a clue, or could just be a dub they had to include to fix a mistake made in the initial recording session. There are no other similar occurrences in the rest of the First Episode (that I can detect anyway).

monkeypanky: Welcome aboard! I believe that the noise you are hearing is just the "insect" sounds used as the background for that outdoor scene.

Considering that the puppetmasters have in interviews stated their wish to remain anonymous, I think perhaps it might be only fair to them not to go digging too much into who they are. Especially as they've cited fear for their safety as their reasoning for not admitting publicly who they are. In light of that, you might want to edit some of that information, fellowtraveller.

Welcome aboard to all the new people, it's always nice to see new faces!

Love the little 48 armies solve on the chess too. Thumbs up. Smile[/sub]

Tom's Japanese

I've been enjoying reading the thread and was gonna stay that way, but I couldn't resist straightening up one thing. THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT JAPANESE LANGUAGE.

Whenever Tom speaks, I only hear burbling sounds trying to mimic what you hear in a samurai movie. I am Japanese native, so I am 100% positive. That explains the confusion between 5 (go) and 9 (ku/kyu) some of us had - yes, I heard 9, too Smile Tom has too work on his pronunciation Wink

Oh, and whenever you see written Japanese on Facebook or in the email subject, that's just a machine translation (maybe google?) of whatever you write in English. I can tell by all the grammatical mistakes.

I'll write again if I hear any clues in Japanese in the future videos!

I second the idea that, while that could be them, we should focus on the clues, rather than on the creators. They worked hard to make this for us, so let's honor their wish for anonymity.

Edit: Removed quote Smile

Thank you nyd! As I said, I have some hearing difficulty, so I really appreciate other people sharing their good ears.

To clarify, do you think the second number should be 6291 or 6251? Of course, I guess that is asking a Japanese speaker to tell if a non-Japanese speaker is slightly mispronouncing "go" or "kyu"...

Hm, I note that lamposts 6323 and 6251 were found, but not a 6229. Maybe the last digit should have been 5??? Probably not, that pronunciation seemed clear even to me. And I would guess that lamppost exists, since the numbers on either side were found (czg22's post).

My gut is telling me that the treasure chest is in (one of the boroughs of NYC). The two guys who are running this show live in (one of the boroughs in nyc) and they claim to have buried the treasure back in November. . .

They said that when someone finds the spot it will be obvious. There will be no need for random digging. And they said that it will involve digging. Or they said it's in a spot that a shovel could be used.

How did you find this out?

specifically the part about the creators being from NYC?

It's from the website's FAQ: "…It's buried. And it's in one of the five Boroughs of New York City. Also, don't just start digging randomly. You'll know when you've found it."

Hi all Smile
I've never been to Central Park so I was wondering if someone could help me out here.....if you were on foot what would be the path you would walk from the Skakespeare & Columbus statues to get to The Dairy? Is there a bridge or something that you would use to cross over Central Park Drive/East Drive? I'd like to know the shortest route you would take on foot??
