Re: STIES site ...
A way to use "Updater"?

The STIES site was a dead end... until it revealed a new photo and the whole Minker thing.

Give the game time to unfold. Guessing about what's next and waiting to see if it pays off is part of the fun in this phase.

...

Does anyone know what the .swf file size was before the two updates?

Currently:
Location:..........http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/deqna.swf
Type:...............application/x-shockwave-flash
Size:................1414.01 KB (1447949 bytes)
Dimensions:......0px × 0px

I had previously mentioned using a program called "Updater"* that will email me whenever a website updates. ...
(I used it on 1-18-08.com, jamielovesteddy.com, slusho.jp and tagruato.jp)

I tried it on STIES at the beginning of the game, but, because of the "countdown signature" the site was/is in a constant state of updating (i.e. : http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/time.php).

However, I think I can set the program to notify when the file size increases (or decreases), and ignore the time stamp. ... ?

*As I own a ... ahem ... bootleg copy of the software (NOT my norm), there's a free on-line version ... http://www.changedetection.com/
However, I'm not sure their system will allow users to bypass the time stamp (or, turn it off)... You may get an email every second.
If you do this, I would suggest creating a separate account and see what happens.

Updater worked!
(And, I'm sorry it took so long for me to find this post)

STIES, RP, and HLM all updated within an hour of each other.

This leads me to believe there is only one man/woman behind the green curtain.

The NEW/new deqna file is:
Location:..........http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/deqna.swf
Type:...............application/x-shockwave-flash
Size:................1415.43 KB (1449399 bytes)
Dimensions:......0px × 0px

Setting "Updater" to check for "file size", rather than "page update" (due to time coding) works wonderfully!

I've got the program running on the STIES, HLM, RP, and RP/TWITTER.
I get an email whenever any one of these sites changes. I need to be near a computer as I don't own a cell phone (tossed it when I noticed the "Dumb Factor" is spreading amongst users!)

I can't find anything new. No device, no new commands to enter... 1 --> Y, 2 --> N, 0 --> Enter "bug" is still there...

Hard to say what they updated :/

I don't understand why STIES is so dormant.

I'm talking about the last BIG updates.

STIES: Printout referencing father.
HLM: Updated Moon Calendar
RP: Site opens (near fully)

However, only HLM and RP have updated since (RP four times).

As for the time-code on STIES, it was used initially for the accessing file list B4.
It is still running. And I don't see it matching my computer's time at all.
The "Count Up" is presented as KBs.

UpDater info ...

stinji wrote:

I found the floppy's the original software package was bundled, but as they were copies of the original, the titles are hand written.
(I do not have a device readily available to open the floppy's for "read me" files, etc ... and I had only transfered the programs to my newer computers--tho, I couldn't get them to work on VISTA).
The program itself is called UpDater, and the "info" only says © Griffon 1991.
The other titles are: Morph, Fauve Matisse, Lotus 123, PiFF/eXif, Corel, and SanSerrif.

I used UpDater way back when all I had was AOL/dialup, and it would let me know when someone had answered a message board post, visited my profile or entered a chatroom ... etc.

I stopped using UpDater during the Cloverfield viral, as some claimed I had an unfair advantage.

Programs that are current and may also work:
RSS feeds (tho you have to access it from the 'Net)
Google Alerts (eMail notification)
and, the one I mentioned above: http://www.changedetection.com/

Sled from Craigs List posting
Some Info .... Nothing Helps us that I see

Since the seld was an unknown item and we still do not know why it was in the sale list I have been trying to get info on the sled. I was unable to find it online at all and I contacted a couple of collectors and I finallly got a response, I don't think the info helps us but I want to share it with alll ....

My Question...

If you have any direction you could give manufacturer, age, anything would help Thank you for your time, I have been searchIng the internet and found nothing

Here is what I got back ...

"Hi David," Thanks for the email. Unfortunately I have seen this sled many times over the years in different conditions. I can not tell you who made the Sled, but it was not done by any major company, therefore I do not have any advertisements or catalogs showing this sled. The construction indicates that it was probably made in late thirties or early forties. Your Sled has been restored, this lowers collectible value. Good luck in your efforts to find the manufacturer, and may you always enjoy..................

Smooth Sledding,
Joan

So for what is worth

Re:Sled from Craigs List posting
So I asked another Q

My Question:

Thank you so much for yor time and for your reply, May I ask one more question... When you have seen this sled is is more regionally located like in West Virginia area or like another geographic area or have you seen it nationwhide. The pictures have come up in an Online Game as part of a clue and we are trying to figure out what part it may play. Again Thank you so Much for taking the time to answer.

Her response:

"Hi," I'm really sorry, but I would think it would be more like NY State or Michigan. I don't believe it was from the South. Good Luck , let me know if you do find out. Joan

So .... Means... Nothin' I think but may still point to Josh Being in the Eastern USA.

ROSEBUD comes to mind ... j/k

Anyway ... Josh (and family) could have moved from the New England area to southern states (and vis-versa).

Th fotos and listings on CL are now gone Sad

It seems a bizarre attempt to link ARG reference materials without having new gamers track down the clues for themselves.

I believe this is a first in ARG!

2228218 has no meaning.
My mom was a punch card programmer, and she says we should place the two together as it forms a complete card.

She would not tell me what it translates.

Dayton, Ohio would offer excellent sledding opportunities.

Er, the problem with that is that you then get >2bit columns which translates as nonsense (that is combining them vertically) - If you do it horizontally you just merge the two messages. Superimposing them also produces more nonsense phrases.

I don't see how she can place them together and not get nonsense out???

However defining the nonsense columns in card 2, you find them at positions 2,8,12,13,15,16. Using these anomalous positions on card 1, the corresponding characters are " -SSAA". Whether that means anything more is debatable, but the folder on RP.com is SSF1, so maybe? It just another way of looking at the cards I guess....
