[EMAIL] From UM "Ultimate information! Not Spam!" Guess the warnings were true. Federal Bill 602P 5-cents per E-mail sent. It
figures! No more free E-mail! We knew this was coming!! Bill 602P will
permit the Federal Government to charge a 5-cent charge on every delivered
E-mail. Please read the following carefully if you intend to stay online
and continue using E-mail. The last few months have revealed an alarming
trend in the Government of the United States attempting to quietly push
through legislation that will affect our use of the Internet.
Under proposed legislation, the US Postal Service will be attempting to
bill E-mail users out of "alternative postage fees."
Bill 602P will permit the Federal Government to charge a 5-cent surcharge
on every e-mail delivered, by billing Internet Service Providers at source.
The consumer would then be billed in turn by the ISP.
Washington DC lawyer Richard Stepp is working without pay to prevent this
legislation from becoming law. The US Postal Service is claiming lost
revenue, due to the proliferation of E-mail, is costing nearly $230,000,000
in revenue per year. You may have noticed their recent ad campaign: "There
is nothing like a letter."
Since the average person received about 10 pieces of E-mail per day in
1998, the cost of the typical individual would be an additional 50 cents a
day -- or over $180 per year -- above and beyond their regular Internet
costs.
Note that this would be money paid directly to the US Postal Service for a
service they do not even provide.
The whole point of the Internet is democracy and noninterference. You are
already paying an exorbitant price for snail mail because of bureaucratic
inefficiency. It currently takes up to 6 days for a letter to be delivered
from coast to coast. If the US Postal Service is allowed to tinker with E-
mail, it will mark the end of the "free" Internet in the United States.
Congressional representative, Tony Schnell (R) has even suggested a "$20-
$40 per month surcharge on all Internet service" above and beyond the
governments proposed E-mail charges. Note that most of the major newspapers
have ignored the story the only exception being the Washingtonian which
called the idea of E-mail surcharge "a useful concept who's time has come"
(March 6th, 1999 Editorial). Do not sit by and watch your freedom erode
away!
Send this E-mail to EVERYONE on your list, and tell all your friends and
relatives to write their congressional representative and say "NO" to Bill
602P.
It will only take a few moments of your time and could very well be
instrumental in killing a bill we do not want.
PLEASE FORWARD!
Your lucky Roman numerals! XIII XXI LXXXII XCIII XCIV CXXVII CLXXX CLXXXI

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Eliminate all whitespace and symbols from the message - then take each character from the text which matches the roman numerals, and you get:
IT WAS A PLEASURE TO BURN

Some attempts at taking the next step, based on my spoiler above:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
According to rose, this is the first line from the novel "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury. Since we had a previous solve that was a movie name, I figured there might be a hidden webpage on the UM site. Tried the following, all to no avail (all with .html endings):
fahrenheit451
fahrenheit
451
ray
bradbury
raybradbury
guy
montag
guymontag
book
books
fire
fireman
attic
cigarette
camel
clarisse
professorfaber
mechanicalhound
just about every other major character from the book

Just to give credit where it's due, Enaxor suggested we try the roman numerals for 451 at the UM site. Tredwel did that and found the www.urbanmythology.net/CDLI.html page. Arben then discovered the www.urbanmythology.net/deadhorror/. Good job you guys!

It appears all these spam mails have actually got urbanmythology spam blacklisted so if anyone's not getting an email then perhaps you have a server-side spam filter which runs off these blacklists.
Another point, nothing really. Internet explorer would have had a little icon in the address bar if it was actually at that subdomain and it would have been changed to start with http:// - tiny PM error I guess, nothing important

Methinks maybe we have to find and get access to the message center?

LOL I love the application form. One of the fields is "Closest Relative"- to be notified of your death, I guess.

I remember completing the application for Online Advisor for UH and there was a comment about a forum/message center and that a password would be forwarded for access if I was selected. I've never seen the UH message center (course, no one we know has been selected as an Online Advisor - I'm thinking of pushing this issue with TT next).
Maybe there was going to be a message center for DH applicants?
Or did they use the same template for the DH application that they used for UH?

i've emailed TT a couple times, a couple different people {head of PR, head of other things, i forget it was a while ago, and yes, iknow, therefore not very helpful} saying things about wondering when UH was going to begin production, wondering if we will know who is selected to participate soon, asking if those not selected will be notified, etc. no replies... with any luck, Kona, you'll get replies. with the exception of Ed, no one seems to want to respond to me. lol

It was a pleasure to burn...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
since the tt website and phone number are both gone, are we to assume that Ed burned the building down? That'd be crazy.

Exactly my thoughts yesterday and then this evening after Ron's phone call (before listening to what he posted on ron's world).

If Ed did burn down the building, he's flipped out.
Do we continue working with this man, if it turns out to be true? I'm all for justice, but this an extreme measure on his part.

Maybe this has to do with the 40hrtz file? B.S. did say the hum made him feel irrational rage and violent impulses. And we've just sent Ed a lot of stuff relating to it.
