I thought I heard "red coat" also. nd it might be a clue, as in the Red Coats, a Revolutionary War reference.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Long_Island (aka battle of brooklyn)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_and_New_Jersey_campaign

both of these took place significantly downtown and in brooklyn. where we were in video 1 wasnt massively colonized during the revolution. we're probably venturing out of the park in this video and heading downtown

Ok this is just silly, but I can't help but think of the Sound of Music in the episode. I think it is because of this line:

Quote:
Captain: That better be code talk, ya nancy. Sodder me jiggers. They're getting close enough for boardin'. I'll get us a brace of pistols, Mulligan. We'll shoot 'em as they come. Oh, I am so excited. Shooting boarders in the face be one of me favorite things. Argh me favorite things. Argh...

Followed by this:

Quote:
Black Tom: Ichi. Ni. Son. Chi. Doooooo!

Black Tom points at sun and makes it explode. Mulligan is shown still on the top deck watching the explosion fade and looking confused.

I think of the Sound of Music song Do-Re-Mi (Do a deer a female deer, Re a flock of golden sun) I don't really think it is related just seemed cute to me. Doooo might really be Goooo which would be 5 or a sound of music clue. Wink

Here is what I think. If you go by the fire a cannon South by Southwest clue and follow 8th ave. from Columbus Circle it will take you to Madison Square Garden, which underneath that is the subway Penn Station. The term P line, as it was proposed for use at a later date, is not used as it could cause bathroom humor (Mulligan's reference to having to pee). I found this a while back so I think I have been on the right track. I found it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_Subway_nomenclature and scoll down to this area and read: Unification and BMT/IND service integration. I will work on this more tomorrow as I have a splitting headache. Talk to you later.

Just to add to this. Could this be the sun?????
Madison Square was the site of some of the first electric street lighting in the city. In 1879 the city authorized the Brush Electric Light Company to build a generating station at 25th Street, powered by steam, that provided electricity for a series of arc lights which were installed on Broadway between Union Square (at 14th Street) and Madison Square. The lights were illuminated on 20 December 1880. A year later, 160-foot (49 m) "sun towers" with clusters of arc lights were erected in Union and Madison Squares.

I don't think so but it was interesting. I am hoping it meant to remove the sun and be under the moonlight as it fits in more with my location.

Madison Square Gardens address by the way is 4 Penn Plaza which is interesting.

Here is another website concerning the P. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unused_New_York_City_Subway_service_labels

Just FYI: I think you mean 8th Avenue here not 8th Street.
And I am enjoying all the historical stuff you are finding and posting here. I hope next week, probably after the 3rd episode to do a whole day walking and taking photos of all the locations for everyone. I just can't get into the city before then.

I guess it makes sense to follow the roads. I just looked at the map and went S by SW to the Intrepid musuem which on their site says that the "the first American ship named Intrepid, which was a type of two-masted sailing ship called a ketch. That ship served with distinction during the First Barbary War (1801–1805) between the United States and the Barbary States in North Africa. The first Intrepid is depicted in the upper right corner of the newspaper's logo." Barbary War, Barbary Coast-- Known for it's silver ores?

Not sure how that would help-- I like where you are going Tammy though-- walking seems to be the way to go with this for now... Madison Square Garden is a pretty long walk down from Columbus Circle (well so is the Intrepid). I think "crows nest" has more of a connection with the Intrepid, but I guess... Madison Square Garden kinda looks like a crow's nest!

You are correct. My bad I meant 8th Ave. I will correct that in my post.

Silver Coast of Africa

Since you guys have been helping me along a bit, I thought I'd finally put out something that I have figured out.

From the Maine Monument in Columbus Circle, if you look across the street you will see the Silver Coast of Africa.

It's the globe right in front of Trump Towers. I am pretty sure, as it seems everyone has already figured out, that we are supposed to be going into the subway at Columbus Circle. Where that leads, well we'll have to wait for Episode 3.

GOLD

AT THE END OF THE VIDEO MULLIGAN SAYS HE SEES CHILD HOLDING VICTORY SIGN AND 4 PEOPLE BEHIND HIM. THAT IS A STATUE IN COLUMBUS CIRCLE AND THE SILVER COAST OF AFRICA REFERS TO THE GLOBE THAT IS ALSO IN COLUMBUS CIRCLE HEADING SSW. I HOPE THE TREASURE IS REALLY BURIED CUZ I THINK I KNOW WHERE IT IS. I ALSO WONDER HOW THEY WILL KNOW WHEN SOMEONE HAS FOUND IT?? IS THERE A LOJACK ON IT OR CAN I FIND IT AND NOT GET ON TV??

http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/4065/58wlgedited3.jpg on this map on the road leading south from greyshot arche bathrooms are listed. Mulligan's needing to pee might be a reference to head south from greyshot toward the bathrooms since talking about the subway would put the clues out of order.

i think the young guy with the four other guys is a refrence to him looking at the monuments across the south side of the park. starting with maine monument then j san martion, j marti, s bolivar, and finaly w t sherman. all of which are on horses.

my only concern with the "silvery coast of africa" is the captain says africa with a sneaky tone. similar to how he said " i ate the ice cream" in the first video which might mean hes lieing about the country. googleing silver coast got only silver coast of Portugal. he also seems to laugh a bit after saying it to.
just my 2 cents

some images

Silver coast of Africa:

Followed by this bad photo of the base of the Maine Monument- this post has them out of order of the clues, and out of order of how you would pass them coming out of the park at Columbus Circle:

PS I didn't take these photos, I just found them online.

i'll be enjoying the videos and lurking but please count me as out - the need to be in NYC seems too strong for this game to make sense of the clues - can fully understand the frustration of others now when a london game akes place - sigh - good luck everyone - if any ideas are needed to be bantered around, please do ask though

Great job SoloJoe and thanks for sharing. I had been going about it in an entirely different direction, looking for stores or places in the vicinity relating to Africa or Portugal, and trying to find anagrams out of the phrase etc.

I think your solution is dead on. Here are some additional pictures of the silver coast of Africa, showing its location at the foot of the Trump International Hotel on the north side of Columbus Circle between Broadway and Central Park West.

redeye596: Your idea about the bathrooms is a good one, and I'll look into the statues later today.
