RAH RAH SIS BOOM BAH

Just a word of encouragement from your Portland, OR axon-hunting counter parts. We're counting on you guys to keep up the good work and get girls_with_guns. We are having trouble up here with that set's portland axon.

Happy Hunting!

Cortana and Angelo are on site right now. They've got visuals on five out of six axons in the area and are prepared to hit them all. Barring freakish "communications problems" we should be able to watch them go down beginning at 17:21.

UPDATE: They got rings at all five sites (17:21, 17:23, 17:31, 17:33, and 17:39) and got rejected by two. girls_with_guns is now unlocked.

Great work, guys!

I tried the 11:07 axon on Wilshire and Western (Ryan Adams is playing at the Wilstern if you're interested). There were two pay phones at the exact coordinates, but nether accepted incoming calls. They had numbers, but when I tried them, I just got screeching. I was too late to search around for any others.

I drove over there today, just on the off-chance I might luck out and find the right pay phone. Easily found what I assume are the two phones Moe already ruled out, on opposite sides of Western, neither of which accept incoming phone calls. Went from there to the bank of three pay phones at the Metro station on the corner. Someone was on one of them, but it didn't matter, 'cause none of them accept incoming calls either. (Not even the occupied one -- I hung around until he left so I could call it to verify.)

I will not be able to get back to West Hollywood tomorrow, but there are a lot of pay phones within a 1-2 block radius of the GPS coordinate -- probably one every thirty feet or so. Many don't accept incoming calls, many don't have visible phone numbers, and at least one has been ripped out of the box altogether. I did find at least a couple that ring for incoming calls, a block or so north.

And the "thin_kinkle" clip remains locked today, at 4/5. Cursing

According to that geocode test site, the GPS coordinates 34.146249 -118.256391 are an exact match for 2148 Glendale Galleria, which is the mall's "official" address.

I'll bet they have a lot of pay phones.

A little help tonight, anyone?

Shad0 - due to class obligations, I couldnt make it tonight to the glendale galleria - but I can go tmmorow - in fact, its the closest payphone to me, so if you dont want to go, assuming you already went, you can just tell me the phones you ruled out. Or we could meetup, or whatever.

Alas, I did not make it back from the 18:51 Burbank axon in time to get the 19:13 phone call at any of the phones in the Galleria, so I didn't get to rule out any of them. I did, however, take some time to scout around afterwards. It seems that there are twelve -- yes, twelve, count 'em, twelve Cursing -- separate banks of pay phones in the Galleria: four on the first floor, seven on the second floor, and one on the third floor. Now, some of these phones do not accept incoming calls; others accept incoming calls, but do not ring audibly, which is most annoying; and still others are perfectly normal. Yikes.

I had time to check out four of the phone banks:
    * The three phones on the western end of the first floor, between JC Penney and Zales. All three accept incoming calls, but only the one furthest to the left rings audibly.

    * The only two pay phones on the third floor. Right one does not accept incoming calls. Left one does, but if I recall correctly it does not ring audibly.

    * The single phone on the far eastern end of the second floor, in a corner against the north wall, by Mervyn's, just across from one of the entrances from the third level of the parking structure. Rings audibly.

    * The next two pay phones as you proceed west down the second floor, on the left (south) side. Right one does not accept incoming calls. Left one does, and I think it rings audibly, but now I can't remember for certain.

Unfortunately I definitely will not be available to try again tomorrow night. Sad I may be able to make it back Thursday, or maybe Friday, or maybe not until Saturday. Real helpful, aren't I? We might need a lot more people watching phones to get this one.

34.070130 -118.443040 Axon. I have something I need to do in that area on fri (9/17/04) and was wondering if anybody has scouted the area or any info. It is the one on the UCLA Campus. Thanks.

There are seven or eight axons on the UCLA campus; Cortana hit five of them last week but this was not one of those he saw. Go ahead of time armed with your maps and satellite photos. It shouldn't be too difficult to scout out; the all the axons on that campus seem to fairly well represented by their coordinates.

Have someone reachable by cell phone who can access the IRC Channel and online maps and charts if need be.

Good luck!

Re: 19:13, Glendale, California

Well, it wasn't the three phones on the southwestern end of the first floor of the Glendale Galleria, between JC Penney and Zales. At least, I sure hope it wasn't. The one on the left did not ring, and the one in the middle -- which accepts incoming calls but doesn't ring audibly -- still had a dial tone at 19:13:30. The one on the right -- which accepted incoming calls on Tuesday even though it didn't ring audibly -- was busted. It would not connect to incoming calls today, and didn't even have a dial tone.

It's starting to feel like the Burbank Media Center all over again, only with more phones. Crying or Very sad Bizarro, were you able to make it over there? If so, which phones did you rule out, so we don't duplicate our efforts?

GOTCHA!

Details here. Short version, for future enhottenating: It's the group of four pay phones next to the restrooms in the back of the Food Court on the first level of the Glendale Galleria. You want the phone that is furthest to the right. It does not ring audibly, so you have to wait about 15-20 seconds, answer it anyway, and hope for the best. Thanks to the42guy and bizarro for giving it a shot, but the important thing is that WE GOT IT!

(Take that, Burbank Media Center! Mr. Green )

I will almost certainly not be able to hit this axon or either of the two Burbank axons next Tuesday, so have fun, y'all!

AWESOME!!

I went there early and explored. I found a single phone down by the north entrance, near a parking garage that was mere feet from the GPS point and waited.

I also went to the video game store and tried to recruit some help but the employees were too busy and one interested customer was late to get somewhere.

Even though I picked the wrong location. It was fun. Tried to keep an eye out for you, even asked a few people, "are you looking for a pay phone?" only to have them look at me confused. heh.

Good job, Shad0!!
