[UPDATE] TT gone?

Visiting http://www.tomorrowstalk.com yields a page with nothing but the world "unavailable" on it. Nothing hidden in the source, either.

Somehow tied to Ron's call and Randall's phone message, I presume...

Calling the number - (718) 250-4171 for those of you who don't have it - yields a voicemail box that is different from TT's normal one. I left a message with my e-mail and phone number, informing them the site is down.

This is rather odd. We get a deliberately placed message, not just a 404 as we would if the entire website were deleted from the server, or any kind of message that we might if the server stopped existing or had been disconnected. Also, the UH site is still up and running, and although I'll concede that it's not necessary for a company to host multiple websites with the same host, I don't see why they wouldn't, just to keep down the amount of checks being written each month if nothing else...

[edit:] Forgot to make mention that TT.com/unavailable(.htm(l))/ and unavailable.tt.com are all dead ends.

Maybe they are just down for an update.

I agree most companies host their high traffic / commercial sites at a server farm, where they have better security and cheaper bandwidth. However, as a professional Web designer myself, I also know it frequently makes sense for a company to host their low traffic / non-commercial ("about us") site in-house, where they can more easily link it to their company database. This makes even more sense if they're using part of that site as an Intranet for their off-site employees.

Especially for a company like Tomorrow's Talk, which has to coordinate so many remote locations, this sort of set up would make a lot of sense.

So, theoretically, if there were a fire which burned down the main office, it would take out only the company's main site, and not any of its other sites.

However, if that were the case, I have no idea why we would get an "unavailable" page rather than a "could not reach site" error, or something like that. Some server somewhere has to be hosting the unavailable page.

It's possible this is just a mistake on the part of the PM. Or, it's possible that we are misreading the situation.

Another thing to point out is that the title doesn't say its an error or anything. If it was an error server side, it wouldn't have the company name in the title bar would it?

Now the website says:

We are working to restore the Tomorrow's Talk website.

Thank you for your patience.

So I guess that means that not *everyone* is dead at TT.

Translation: We found stuff on our website we don't want people to see. Not being techies, we just took the whole dang thing down while w efound someone we could trust (or eliminate) to get the incriminating evidence off the site.

This may be to force us to start to look harder at the GoldMine site for clues. I just feel that place hasn't been exhauasted enough yet.

SPEC

With TT's website saying "unavailable" and now saying it'll be back soon, couldn't it be possible that someone just went and deleted it all. They found Ed's hiding of things and just wanted it all gone. Took the important files on HoD, wacked Randall or whomever, and then took off. It's obvious they didn't think anything like that regarding uh.com because it too would be gone.

I think some of these other specs are, well, I guess I'll just say specs.

When this is all done, we should have awards for the most "Right On" and the biggest "WTF are you smoking?" specs.

The page now says

"We are working to restore the Tomorrow's Talk website.

I wonder who the new webmaster is? They're really running out of employees to fill these positions.

And the site is really down- all of the pages are deleted.

There's a new little piece on TT.com:

A Special Notice From Tomorrow's Talk Studios

The Tomorrow's Talk Studios family suffered a tragic loss with the death of our Vice President of Operations,
Randall Thomas, in a fire in our offices on Thursday, Sept. 16th. Our sympathies go out to Randall's family.
He was an invaluable employee and will be dearly missed.

Also, there is the note:

Quote:

We will be commencing a system restore on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at 11:59PM eastern time.
The web site may be unavailable for a brief while during this time.

So, time to dust off that 'it was a pleasure to burn' spec again?
