Horrible move those boondock saint films just saw part 2 last night blah lol.

But it would be clever to make them like the rocket pops as a small nod to E.T. and candy.

Going back to the slogan "Real Spacemen Love Rocket Poppeteers"...
I think there's something about that slogan that's important. in the letter, they specifically refer to astronauts...we are being welcomed to the astronaut program, and they want to know what it takes to become a certified RP astronaut, but then use spacemen in the slogan. Why not just say "Real Astronauts Love Rocket Poppeteers"?

What if "spacemen" was supposed to mean aliens? Do "spacemen" love Rocket Poppeteers like ET loves Reeces' Pieces?

From the writing angle: "spacemen" scans and reads so much easier and better than "astronaut", and the best slogans are easy to say, hear and remember.

On the other hand, unlike a (fictional) ad for ice pop treats, we're being invited to enroll in RP's astronaut program, which has a much more official sound to it. Joining the 'spaceman program' just doesn't have that ring to it.

As they're using them, I think the words are fairly interchangeable. I don't see any evidence of the switch of use being anything more telling than best word usage. Besides, one can enroll in an astronaut program without becoming a spaceman (literally someone who is or has been in space), but it's much less likely for one to become a spaceman without first being an astronaut. Very Happy

Here's your answer.

Billhouse;

Thanks for the link, now I understand everything so much clearer, JK. Laughing

I'm glad someone can understand this, I'm still trying to figure out what the electoral college is all about. (And don't bother with the wiki links, I'm still trying to figure out what 'wiki' means, and don't bother with the urban dictionary links, I'm still trying to find out what 'urban dictionary' mean, ad infinitum, ad nauseum...--and I'm having trouble with those too!) Confused
