Why can't we d/l the comatas wav files that aren't hot??

Okay, before you all flame me for asking such a stupid question, think about what we just did this morning:

we just d/l the "hidden" WAV files which SP's embedded clues led us to... and we downloaded them from the normal, "/outbound" directory.

These files seem to be ones which Melissa was going to send out but hadn't yet (ie holding back, as SP writes:)

It doesn't sound like the Princess moved them, just left us clues where to find them. Besides, when she "commandeered" the files on humptydumpty, she let us d/l them through a new subdomain, not the normal /outbound directory.

This leads me to believe that the "hidden" wav files we d/l this morning were just sitting in the /outbound directory... so why, then, are we able to d/l them just by adding the name of the file to /outbound but are not able to d/l the comatas ones by doing the same thing??

And just to dispell one possible suggestion right off the bat: if Melissa was holding back the files in case her security was compromised, I doubt she'd have "protected" the comatas wavs and not the "hidden" wavs. If I were an AI and suspected my security may be compromised, I would lock *everything* up, especially the files I wanted to hold back in case said security was compromised.

Isn't the idea that SP unlocked these files for us?

The SP's outbound files could have been put up at any time. Not really a risk until we learn of the subdirectory AND the file names. Delivered by SP.

Melissa, on the other hand, delivers nothing until axons are hotted. Not only are the file names not links but the files are not THERE until we unlock them. THEN they are made available in the subdirectory. Two different delivery methods. One set hidden for us by SP, one needed by Melissa to set up her network. No reason they should be the same.

My point exactly! There's no reason Melissa's delivery method and SP's delivery method should be the same... but aren't they? In humptydumpty, SP used a different method, as I would expect. But now, with the hidden "candidate files", she uses the same method as Melissa. Is it just me, or doesn't that sound like leaving tracks... being slightly careless... and cause for concern, if Melissa should find out.

I'm not sure who you are implying is putting up the SP's outbound files...

If you mean Melissa could put the files up at any time and it's only because the SP provided us with a file name that we were able to download, then this contradicts what you say later, namely "Not only are the file names not links but the files are not THERE until we unlock them."

But, if you mean that SP could put the files up at any time, then I posit: "why would she put them up in a place bound to be noticed by Melissa? Since she obviously has access to other outbound lanes (transmit.ilovebees.com/surveillance_archive/), why not use those "hidden" ones instead?"

Sorry to beat a dead horse (and sorry if I came off sounding a bit accusatory) but I'm not so sure this question is a dead horse.

*note to mods: it seems this may begin to border on [spec], so feel free to move as needed! thanks!*

I always thought of it as this: The Sleeping Princess snuck the hidden .wav files into the outbound directory, but then didn't want to say "hey, everybody, I found these .wavs!" for fear of being caught, so she communicated to us the filenames in clues.

Of course, that leaves the question of, why didn't Melissa notice the new files in the outbound directory? (Maybe she subscribes to "security through obscurity..." Wink)

That may be, but if so then I wonder why she would do that. We already know she has access to the "transmit.ilovebees.com/surveillance_archive/" directory from humptydumpty, and we also know she's not afraid to say "hey, everybody, I found these .wavs!" because that's exactly what she did on humptydumpty.

In other words, if she was trying not to be caught but wanted to sneak the wavs to us, why didn't she do what she did with the humpty wavs and put them in her own directory?

sp axons

This is good question and I think it is important to the story.

The SP is finding us axons that Melissa is holding back from us.

The reason why Melissa is holding them back probably has to do with the Pious Flea... but it could be because she doesn't trust us.

As for Melissa noticing the SP - I think that Melissa is looking to Durga to help with that. As long as the waves are not Durga waves ( I know... where did they come from) maybe she doesn't expose herself to risk.

Dang - I still need to get theses puzzle pieces to fit together better. I keep turning them around but I dont quite have a fit yet.
