You just gave me a great idea for a horror story. I've been meaning to write one for a while. Still have no idea exactly what, but sirens? Echoes of the past? Sounds chilling, albiet not too original sounding. A Slender twist...Though if I do that I might make it more a script than story, but something more to watch all at once movie-style than vlog style. Well...I can't film/direct, but I know a guy who aspires to be a hollywood director and seems talented enough (not to mention friends who acted non-stop back in high-school for our school musicals, and were pretty damn good).

But...it makes no sense. Slender Man ≠ Pyramid Head, and it certainly isn't WWII. It's out of place, and I don't get it. :?

It's a reference, so it could be making a thematic connection.

And notice that in every mention of the siren, that it's connotations are generally quite "oh shit!" - nuclear power plant problems, Silent Hill and the bloody Blitz? It isn't exactly a family hug of references, you know?

@griek: Some people theorize that Slendy came to be during the so called Philadelphia Experiment.

I love that theory. For those that don't know, the Philadelphia Experiment was an experiment to cloak a battleship during 1943.

I know in PA and most of the Tri-State area we have a disturbingly "air raid siren" system in place to warn us about problems at local nuclear power plants. They could also be weather sirens.

Just tossing some stuff out there.

Seriously? Lived in PA all my life and was never aware of this. I find it kinda...unsettling, knowing that I could hear those sirens.

We even have them here in CT. My guess is that they are flood sirens. Or the echos of them from the past.

Flood sirens? That's...actually pretty likely it, seing as how CYSTW has been referencing floods for a looooong time now.

How did that give rise to SlenderMan?

And by "he," you mean Slendy, right?

Also: did they react to the roar? Or is that just audio distortion?
Actually I was talking about how Vinny turned to Evan just as the "knife" click sound occurred. As if he was looking towards the "knife"

I don't know, but I do know one thing: Sirens signaling bad things and emergency broadcast noises are terrifying.

He's just rumoured to be involved; it's a pretty nutty theory, anyway.

This was in the forest, right? Hm. Who was holding the knife that "clicked?" If it was Vince, he could be readying himself to use it on Evan, but if it was Evan, he could be getting worried about Evan using it on him.

...sorry, but of a random thought.

@above: Definitely true.

...ohhhh-kayyyyy. Shit has gotten exceptionally REAL for our EH crew here. (And I'd have posted hours ago, but this forum is now blocked on the network where I work. Meh! Sad )

Observations:

- The metallic sound in the beginning? That could very well be a switchblade being triggered- but the volume of the noise suggests it's being done almost right next to the camera. Anyway, Vinny seems to jump a little at the sound, and then sigh in a resigned way... I get the feeling there's SOME form of coercion going on here. There's other odd noises in the background as well, sounding sort of like rain on a window. Evan seems unduly fixated on something going on behind and to the right of the camera, and his expression seems fine at first, but by the end, it's just... not right.

- Their demeanor in the hiking video seems a little adversarial towards their own viewers- Evan using the words "pissing and moaning" only to be corrected by Vinny, but then Vinny himself uses the phrase "because you guys moaned about it all day". Also, what happened to the footage of the actual hike? Did they simply cut it for time, or did it never actually make it onto the tape for some reason?

- What's with the weird desaturization of the colors? Around this time of year those leaves should be a brilliant green.

- Sirens are also used to warn nearby motorists when a fire truck is departing the station. The Slender Man mythos has a fairly significant involvement with fire....

- Evan isn't just kneeling in the center of those bags. He has his knife buried in the ground- and considering the size of that monster blade, that can't have been the easiest thing to do. He looks almost as if he thinks he has something pinned beneath it. And that laugh is just a wee bit counterclockwise of sane....

At the beginning of the video the sound actually sounds more metallic than a knife, and it may even be a gun. Also, I notice that Evan keeps looking towards his left every so often, particularly when Vince mentions names and he seems to be either expressing something or communicating to someone. Of course it may just be crazy person facial expressions.

Hmm. Interesting note: it may be possible that Evan and an unknown party behind the camera are threatening Vince into saying what they want him to say. The adversarial attitude to their viewers seems to be for humour, really; the desaturation is a bit off, since it's only on the green.

Also: I believe that Evan (presuming he isn't going to the dark side) might have been trying to catch Slendy, hence why he plunged the knife into the ground (maybe Slendy "melted away," and Evan was trying to stop him doing that?).

It might be the area of PA I live in, which happens to be near the Limerick Power Plant. Which is nuclear.

Luckily if it ever does explode I'll be dead before I realize what happened.

I've handled a few firearms. About the only sound they make that that noise approaches would be the releasing of a handgun's slide from a locked position. Still, it doesn't sound quite right (at that closeness, you would probably also hear the slide smacking into place after its release).
