Re: Gold

Pallavicini: You are correct about the shot showing Mario in the trailer. I had the wrong framegrab. For completeness' sake, the image is visible at approximately 1:23 in the video.

There was a reference to the bottles being found being discussed somewhere else, presumably on another website. Can anyone post a link to that discussion?

Gold

Mel Gibson reference is hilarious.

Does anyone else think the order that the colors are presented is significant? If we just look at the full-screen backgrounds, first we see an orange background, then yellow, then blue (going with the orange and yellow color scheme vs. red and orange - agree with other posters who see them as orange and yellow)

If we get really specific, the order of the backgrounds, with the associated printed letters and spoken words, is this:

orange - C HMS MH - "old"
yellow - C B R - spectacles
orange - FM L C N - Firefly
orange - mind gap
orange - 4 visible/5 total docks at Cortland
no color (Tom with Larry King) - C S
blue - Mario - glove and boots (G and B lines?)
blue - "photo evidence"
orange - b/w photo - blue hat on fire
orange - Tutty
blue - Hardy Boys

I've been staring at this for a while. Does it jog anything with anybody else?

Was thinking you take orange line (ok, "one of" the orange lines - I live in NY too, but colors are obviously a factor here) to yellow line, but then what? Back to orange? eventually to blue? I understand the route may not be direct, but this sounds like total backtracking.

If the colors matched up with the indicated letters, that would be something, but they don't.

Not sure if it's important or not but I have the colors in order of being shown as...

orange-orange-yellow
orange
orange
orange
yellow
orange-orange-yellow
yellow
orange
orange-orange-yellow
orange
orange (Capt. saying "mind the gap")
orange (Mulligan saying "seen four docks")
orange-orange-yellow
orange (Capt. saying "five docks at the Port of Cortland"
orange
orange-orange-yellow
orange (five docks gets crossed off the list)
orange-orange-yellow
blue
orange-orange-yellow on top-blue at bottom right
blue (fafa comes into screen)
orange-orange-yellow on top-blue bottom right
blue
orange-orange-yellow on top-blue bottom right (fafa has left screen)
orange
orange-orange-yellow on top-blue on bottom right
blue
orange-orange-yellow on top- blue bottom right (Capt. leaves his box)
blue
orange (Capt. returns to his box, starts showing blacjk and white photos on left)
orange-orange-yellow on top- blue bottom right (Crothers head on fire)
orange (Capt. showing back side of Tutty photo)
orange-orange-yellow on top- blue on bottom right
orange
blue on top center-orange-orange-yellow-yellow on bottom (blue box is just fafa and then mario comes in)
blue
blue top center-orange-orange-yellow-yellow on bottom
blue on top center-orange-orange-yellow-yellow on bottom (Tom leaves his box and then is shown entering blue box with fafa and mario)

fellowtraveler, I don't believe a reference to bottles has been discussed anywhere else. It has only been brought up here.

Methinks it be diversionary tactics.

Mangas Coloradas

Looking for "red sleeves" references, I found that an Apache leader was called Red Sleeves, or Mangas Coloradas. He was arrested, executed, and beheaded when he came to a US fort under a flag of truce. His skull was sent to New York City to a phrenologist named Fowler. Besides being involved in pseudoscientific phrenology, Fowler had a thing about getting people to live in octagonal houses. He had an octagonal house in Fishkill, New York. His office was in the city.

Has anyone come up with anything else using the red coat or sleeves, or sleeveless red coat? Since Crothers lost his eye in the first episode and just lost his blue hat in this episode, I wonder how much he will have left by the end of the videos...

Bottles

Me thinks Y'er all scoundrels and cads to a man.

Just walked over to the park and find the bottle hypothesis even more highly suspect than before.
First, the bottle concept would not provide an evenly accessable dissemination source for pertinent information. It would assume that there is some dude hanging around with a bag of bottles, always ready to replace a found one with a new one. Because this is unlikely to have happened, it would lead to asymetrical information distribution, and therefore skew the hunt painfully in favor of those fortunate enough to have happened upon one.
Secondly, if there were broken bottles and twine all around, shame on the creators for placing them there and requiring they be smashed. Also, if some morons were smashing bottles in the park it would not go unnoticed by passerby or the police.
Third, Shakespeare is gazing into the flowerbed, indeed. But, spotting a bottle in the flowerbed would be like spotting the Vietcong beneath the jungle canopy.

Musta just missed ya, WeeWilly!

I just got back from the park myself.

I found another bottle behind the Wallach Walk rock, and yet another in the tunnel of the "cave" after Balto. There was also a smashed bottle wrapped with twine near Balto.

That's as far as I made it.

I'll have to post from home as apparently the scanner here at work is screwed.

WeeWilly.... If you want to join up for the hunt, let me know. It seems we are close enough.

Has anyone else noticed that the lightboard/subway map behind Larry is a little different than the real subway map????

Pics or it didn't happen, is what the kids say nowadays.

If you're legit, then something is very off about the entire premise of the "game".

Quite. I walked the length from Balto to the Maine monument and found Zero, Mr. Beard apparently now has about half a dozen - which goes to my point about information distribution.

Also, it's about 700% humidity out today. Gross.

Pics of what?

I didn't take any pics. I don't have a camera and I don't have a cameraphone.

I have only been trying to scan the letter I found. That's all. I will scan when I am out of work. I found the damn thing this morning.

For the record, I was as skeptical as the rest of you (albeit a little excited, too) which is why I brought it to the attention of the forum. That SARAH74 person's post is what came up in my initial Google search. I also noticed that "she" hasn't posted since.

Posting pictures

Purplebeard, I think you do have to sign up to be able to post pictures. Please do! I don't see any reason to disbelieve you, I just want to see it.

Map in the background

I've been following the forum for some days now and you guys came up with great ideas and remarkable observations. Respect! I overlooked most of it at first sight. What I was wondering right now is that thing with the map in the background. Some of you mentioned the lights and to me it is clearly the map of NYC. Well with basically only parts of Manhattan, Queens, Randall's Island and Roosevelt Island visible. To Larry King's right there is the map of Manhattan and several lights that could describe the Subway lines A-C, B-D, 1-2-3, and 4-5-6. If so, then there are some stations, i.e. lights missing. Which imho are 116 B-C, 103 1, 116 2-3, 145 3, 116 6, 96 B-C, 86 B-C, and 86 1. I am not sure what it might tell us, but I think it might be a clue. I thought I also realized the N-Q line in Queens behind Larry.

And another thing, what is it with that throwing star Tom throws at Larry and which remains sticking in his left shoulder? Could be X marks the spot. Which would mean we are somewhere in Queens south of LaGuardia. Anyone with me?

I'm with you!
I've been looking at this all morning and thought the same thing about the star. Did you also notice the "green line" to Larry's left? This should not be there. The train lines there are orange, yellow, orange, blue. I don't believe this is a park like the other green spots around the map either. Any clue?
