Any iDeas

so i noticed something during the 3rd video and i would like some input, what is everyones thoughts on them miss spelling the word "Central", they said "Cental" the "R" is missing.

This could be important and may have to do with the subway system but im not too sure yet i need more time.

The second thing i noticed is that when they had that list up on number 1 it says something like " is there truely a 10,0000 dollar buried treasure in NYC", this is not an error on my part but there actually is an extra "0" in the number ten thousand, im not sure what to make of it though yet. some help would be delightfull.

Good catch regarding the extra zero in the infographic. I'm not sure what it means, but there have been "errors" of such nature in the production of each of the episodes so far.

I have been rethinking my approach regarding this episode and hope to post a new interpretation of the clues tomorrow.

spelling errors are often sign of anagrams
cental and 10,0000

I haven't looked at the ticker for these. As a general rule, spelling errors are often a sign of something that should be anagrammed.

In the case of an extra "0" one might consider whether it is binary code.
offhand, I don't know what 100000 is in binary code.

On anagrams generally, the string of the cast of characters from Dawn of the Living Dead, at 41 characters, is too long for an anagram. Also, they are the actual cast members (see Wikipedia) and Scott is the only one who uses his middle initial on the standard lists and so its use does not point to something that should be anagrammed.

But the "Cental" the poster mentions is worth checking out.

binary code? decimal? hexadecimal?
viewing 100000 as code

does 100000 in binary code refer to the decimal value of 32?

http://www.computerhope.com/binhex.htm#01

It seems that maybe instead it should be converted to hexadecimal given the hexapus pictured and perhaps even the hex that Crothers is under (depending how the plot in future episodes develops).

binary to decimal and hexadecimal
converting 100000

This has 10000 converting to "16" in decimal and "10" and hexadecimal. I'm not a math type and so may be mistaking basic error.

Numbers

I also noticed last night the 1,2,3,4 is being repeated again. From Tom's Japanamation in episode two, and the Captain's list in this episode. Might mean nada Confused

Where in the video is central spelled wrong?

So I watched the video again with my subway map out, and clearly the background is a map of the city and Long Island.

What I noticed the third time of just reading the ticker is that the ticker is not clues...start at 6:02 is says "If you spent this whole episode reading the ticker, the bad news is you missed the clues. The good news is there will be a quiz, and you are prepared!"

Are we getting side tracked focusing on it too much rather than trying to decode what subway we are taking where?

If you read back a few pages there's already some discussion on this. It's definitely the north side of Central Park on the left of the screen and Queens on the right with colored subway lines. There are differences between the lightboard and a real map and subway map though.

Right, but the second paragraph is what I was really getting at. The ticker says "you missed the clues" if you spent your time reading it... and the last few pages we've been trying to decode the ticker... I'm just asking if maybe the entire "message" in the ticker could be a red herring.

Yeah, must be. I didn't know that was the name of a former mayor. I was looking specifically for the phrase "Old Man Dinkins" and failed to check Dinkins + "New York".

I think that was talked about some too. Some people think that maybe them saying something is NOT a clue means that it IS a clue. ???

Any one have any ideas on what the black verticle line is east of Flushing Meadows on the lightboard??? It's driving me crazy!

p.s. I really wish we had seperate threads for different episodes or different clues Sad

It could be that there are no clues on the ticker at all. But what it says is that the directions to Pittsburgh are not a clue, not that everything in the ticker is not a clue. It also reminds us that there are many things that are not clues. It says if you spent the entire episode reading the ticker that you missed the clues. I think it just tells us there are clues that are not on the ticker, duh.

It seems to me that if the episode only gets us from the Columbus Circle station onto one train and partway along the route without even specifying an exit station, it hasn't moved things along as much as I would expect. While fellowtraveler worked hard at it, trying to connect every scene change with a train change seems like way too much on the other hand.

If we are headed to Flushing Meadows to the Mets' stadium as Crothers' hat would suggest, we would have to take the 7 train on the purple line, right? There seems to be no indication of that. And the Captain burns the hat before Fafa calls the blue over orange/yellow a clue.

We haven't identified some clues along the way, I think. I can't find a connection with the Firefly show, for instance. The 4/5 stuff is probably something, but we haven't figured out what. The apparent route does not go through Cortlandt St station, nor to van Cortlandt Park (note by the way, the different spelling from the video). Who or what is Mr. L? Is Willow, Willow Lake?

I think today at work I'm going to create a word doc with all clues from all episodes that way we can reference them a little more easily, and delete a little more quickly if they turn out not to fit the puzzle.

I thought that maybe it was the county line, but that doesn't work either.
