Probably OOG - www.justrarefish.com
Something fishy about this website, no pun intended...

I did a google search for Rare Fish and it yielded this result.

www.justrarefish.com

The style of the web pages design is very rudimentary, not unlike Josh's blog. This is probably OOG but something about this site seems fishy to me.

- The site is for sale, the details of which seem perfectly suited to Josh's dream of one day turning his hobby into a job.

- There is absolutely no contact information the site.

- The fish selling service is now mysteriously closed due to 'market conditions"

And, if all goes well, I may segue my career into home aquariums full-time! As soon as possible – I'm starting to get a allergic reaction to paper products. Let's start up some discussions: who has experience with deep-sea fishing?"

I checked whois data. It seems to be registered to a Mr. Tom Hill in Acworth, Georgia, since April 2004, and was last updated in Jan of this year. It's hosted on GoDaddy.

While I would agree that this site looks too bad to be true (lol), it seems like it really is an actual site, based on the registration date.

Curious though there's an item for sale on the Availability list that is "Misc. Purchase - Unlisted Item" and it's up for the whopping price of $1. Though right above it, it says there's a minimum purchase of $250.

Plus I see no mention of the ever elusive coelacanth. Good and weird find though!

Interesting how Josh says he has over 20 years of experience with home aquariums yet he admits in his last post he isnt up to date on current models.
Note to all..
Dont call Josh Minker to install your home fish tank.

Not following you; are you saying that Josh has not responded to e-mails because he can't/won't, or doesn't know how to answer them?

Rolling Eyes Okay, what I mean is the line: "Who knows, I may even be able to answer them!": could be important. It seems to me there may be a time when he answers all the E-Mail's sent, that's all.

I think he is referring to the questions they might have that he might be able to answer.. not the emails per se..

who's fred?

So you might have wondered why an entire month went by without any updates (or maybe you didn't even notice I was gone). Doesn't look like I can catch a break, sadly. I didn't hear from the Boston fisherman for over a month – so I feared the worst. What if he had been caught out in a storm or something? FRED didn't know anything – he hadn't heard from the guy. We finally find out that two days before the expedition the Boston fisherman got arrested for fishing with a compressor.

Now he's out on bail and thinks it's too risky to go after the Coelacanth. I'm happy he's safe but still. Where should I go from here? Feels like nothing but dead ends.

anybody??[/strike]

Looks like someone is reading this journal after all! Was just contacted by Fred's (my friend) brother.

www.justrarefish.com

$10,000 seems a bit steep for a website that openly admits the market has gone sour.

Oh ... and there is a contact: hireintel1 @ comcast.net

Also, looks like there's a little movie: http://justrarefish.com/MOV00154.MPG

another form of coelacanth

I did do a search and didn't see anything so ... since things are s-l-o-w lately I thought I'd throw this out there.

Now I'm not thinking this is in game or anything -- but maybe Coelacanth, as we have often thought might mean something else besides the 'fat head' fish we have come to know and love .........

just tossing it out there ....

ducking in case a fish comes at me --- oh, and please, if you do send the fish delight, send some herbs, butter and lemon please. Laughing

I didn't download it, but checking out the page and using google to look for other references to it brought up same. I didn't get any AV warnings ... but like I said, I didn't download the program --- was mosttly just pointing out the existance of it - and maybe food for thought.

New blog post is very strange... Here's the contents:
Quote:
Well, that wa unexpected. The whole office went out for drinks tonight, thanks to Sarah. She's the new supe. We surpassed sales this month so we got to celebrate. Big deal in this climate. I may have had a few too many – these keys are starting to run together on me

But turns out I learned a thing or two by going out for once,. Sarah didn't know her dad growing up, either. We have a lot common. Itswas pretty funny. and Clive scoffed too. his dad was a forest ranger and just never came back one day. I think cive might've made that story up, now that I think about it. probably Sarah didn't by it. OK!! i need to sleep.

The first thing I noticed really was all the typos and just general poor grammar. I don't remember a single other post having a typo or bad grammar, so this one really seems to stick out. Although, he does note that the office went out for drinks, so it's possible he had a few too many and is blogging drunk.

I also think we need to rethink where Josh works. I've been following posts as best as I can, and the general consensus has seemed to be that he works at a paper company. However, climate shouldn't affect sales at a paper company (I suppose an argument could be made that he means economic climate, but I think that's unlikely).

Looks like we're also being introduced to some new characters, and having some things about Josh's dad confirmed. First off, we know that Josh's dad either died or left his mother when Josh was young. Second, Josh seems to be hitting it off with Sarah, the "new supe" at work. Finally, we have Clive, someone who works with Josh, that Josh doesn't seem to like very much.

We must party!

Another thing that stuck out to me was his statement:
"these keys are starting to run together on me"

I know in the context of his blog, he had a few and that's why -- however, it does leave room to over think it as keys to ?? cipher? computer? the blog itself? the calendar? Shocked

Anyway -- just really glad there is some activity!!!

EDITED to add:

Under the heading recent posts -- this last one it labeled 112 instead of the date as the others were. Shocked

WE MUST PARTY!! ^___^

Totally got a reply from Josh! I think he was doing the same drunk typing as we saw on his blog.

Here's the text:

Hi Josh!

I hope everything is going well with the new Supervisor. Are your new hours affecting your sleep? Shift changes really suck Sad

You mentioned you wished your internet friends lived closer to you so you can "get your fish on." I'm in the North East and wondered if that was close enough. My dad used to have these beautiful little blue striped fish - i think they were called neon tetras - we would watch them all the time. They were great, until he decided the tank needed cleaning and he would call on his children to do the dirty deed. I still remember the calming sound of the water filter.

Just checking in to make sure you're okay.

Have a great week!

~Marj ^_^
