the flag definitely had one diamond on it; and I think it was the same colors

Thanks for all the detailed information on M&C, Spaniard.

The only modern international naval signal flag with one diamond is red on white, and stands for "F", and also if flown alone as "I am disabled". There seem to be none in other systems I have found, including in particular the Royal Navy system. Yellow and green is very uncommon. Only one international flag with a yellow chevron on green encodes "False Start" (for racing, I assume).

I'm sure all public bridges have a unique designation for maintenance and inspection. I don't know about maps though. [edit] Ah, here you go: PDF map of mid-manhattan bridges with numbers

initial thoughts
I think crother's statement "now you've gone too far," especially taken as his initial statement if we pay attention to Black Tom, means we have to turn around. This gibes with the Forest Hills clue in the mall directions, where we're told we're not to go there.

Black Tom's statement can mean several things: take a different route, or take different transportation. I'm leaning towards it meaning to take a different train, back the way we came. If you look at the subway map, the "northernmost" train back into manhattan turns out to be the F train.

If we're being told to go 'back' several clues, that might put us as herald square.

 		Episode 2 - symbol on Tom's forehead
Does anyone recognize the symbol that appears on Tom's forehead at 3:06 in the second video as Tom is approaching Crothers to cut off his sleeves? It is 4 red arcs, sort of outlining a cross. It is a little like the logo of The Association of Small & Medium Enterprises, but not quite.

I wonder if it goes with the drop of sweat on Crothers' forehead somehow.

A little later, just after Tom has cut off the sleeves, and someone in the music says "hey" is where I think Tom is saying something in English: "something, something, Crothers' sleeves". Can anyone make it out?

Uh... You mean Tom?
A) Crothers is not on in the beginning, unless you consider the whole thing backward...
B) The sound has been reversed for your listening pleasure, linked on the transcripts thread.
C) It is English, backwards, that Tom is speaking.
D) Look back a page in this thread for discussion of it.

In some other episodes, some of Tom's speech sounds like English (forwards), particularly when there is a lot else going on. I have just heard a few words that sounded kind of like the general theme of things in the scene. But my ears are unreliable. Has anyone else noticed this?

While Tom did not seem to be speaking English backwards mostly, maybe there are some cases?

 		jrc: The symbol you are seeing on Black Tom's forehead is just a technique used by manga/anime artists to symbolize irritation or anger. See this Wikipedia article for an example. The sweat drop on Crothers' face is also an example of this anime expression.

But I came away thinking it was definitely corroborative of the suggestion that it pointed to MERCHANTS GATE and I liked the idea about the baseball diamonds (though was not confident).

Thanks, FT, interesting page.

How about ideas what the three black straps are on Crothers' left arm? They are not just velcro or something, they have little silver buckles, as you can see as he weeps over his lost sleeves. He still has them in episode 3. Obviously not in episode 4, poor guy.

And I wonder how he lost his arm between episode 3 and 4? He managed not to lose it in episode 2, a near miss. That would have been the right arm though. Why did he lose both sleeves when only one arm was stuck? Probably seemed better to them for some reason to lose sleeves instead of sleeve.
