Checking sites.
Wondering if this was happening.

One thought I had (and I apologize if this should be posted somewhere else) is that, are sites such as scariesthingieversaw.com still being checked for new material? Such as files that might now work?
If it's not being done I'd be willing to start doing so.

I don't go through all the files but I do check the background and print all quite often, especially if there is an update elsewhere. I suspect quite a lot of people do the same... I haven't noticed any changes in files however.

The other thing worth keeping an eye on is the function slider on RP.com ship console (when you pull up the messages), I suspect that'll change under the radar..

My computer (when it's on) checks the file size of STIES, HLM and RP to see if there are any changes.

I caught the HLM change last week, but I'm still not convinced of its purpose or validity. It's just odd that there are errors on that site. Not, just spelling errors, but errors in programming code. I would guess it's an ingenious way to make Josh seem more real. The whole coelacanth/moon phase stuff bring some type of "werefish" to my mind.

And, yes ... I also hope something breaks on the RP site soon.

Ahhh I remember the good ol days when folks actually CHECKED the sites instead of using programs to track the file sizes. RUINS the game i think. I remember being so excited to get off work and see what our Unfiction Heroes had found for the the cloverfield ARG. It made it more game like. It's like using a Game Genie IMO, and it sucks. I miss it being a game where you had to FIGURE things out rather then gaining instant gratification by using software and what not... But hey you remember when that guy was lighting homeless people on fire in the subway?

There is of course a way around that if you have solid access to your web server. Consistently alter the file sizes randomly, or just include dynamic content that's always changing, keep the last modified date http header recent, or remove it entirely, etc... If you provide a site that remains static consistently, it's much easier to track for changes.
It's that, or have updates to the game done not via the website. =)

Good points.

I had more time on my hands back in the Cloverfield days ... Spent more time on my computer.

Discovering the "pictures flipped", and the monster's roar, were not really as easy as you would think. Yes, the software said there were changes, but I had to find those changes! ... I think it's far better than going to a blog or forum and being told what to look for ... Tho, I did post my findings and was (at that time) considered to be either J.J. himself, or someone very close.

Just keep checking the sites out for yourselves before looking for spoilers. A few have left this game as they deemed it was too slow (thus the rush w/RP) ... We have a YEAR to go before Super 8 is released. Just relax and enjoy the ride.
