alright Kendra, Laying down that cover fire...

Quote:
Forgetting about Mrs. Nibbles for the time being, I focus on shaking the berry trees and launching as many berries as I can, concentrating on protecting the Translator as she makes her mad dash for the soap in the flannel-wearing ghost's hand. I aim for a few of the miniatures in between, hoping I can prevent any more explosions.

Quote:
With your ghost cat safely stowed, you rush over to help the Great Wizard of the Neighborhood. However, by the time you act, it seems he has already been saved!

Some of the ghosts are standing as though frozen. The rest are engaged in furious battle.

A traveler standing near the Great Wizard says, "Can you create some sort of giant diversion- like a flashbang or an illusion to startle Erdu?" She grins and then dashes back to the trees.

The translator shouts, "Keep shaking the trees and launching berries! We need some berry cover fire!"

Nearby, you see that the traveler with the dictionary is being held prisoner by Erdu the ghost! "Sammy! Guys! A little help here?" he calls. "I'd rather not be damned, but if it comes down to me or the Governor, I trust you will do the right thing."

The situation looks pretty impossible… until another of your fellow travelers appears on Erdu's foot. (how did she do that?) Erdu jumps and lets go of the traveler, and the two of them dash back to safety near the trees.

In the distance, you hear the translator cry, "Ssssssssssskkkkkaaaaaaaaaa fleeeeeeeeeeraaaaaaaa nyooooooooooofaaaaaa!"

From the corner of your eye, you see the Great Wizard of the Neighborhood. He looks as though he is whispering something at Erdu.

The frozen ghosts begin to move again, and the battle become more intense. Ghosts are being ripped to pieces all around you, and their bodies are vanishing into – who knows where.

Suddenly, something disturbs many of them. Several rebel ghosts recoil as if they've been touched by something poisonous. Others fall backward as if hit by something painful.

Erdu begins to change. His body looks as though it is dividing into several pieces – each a small replica of himself! Now there are ten tiny Erdus running from place to place, setting off minor explosions.

From another part of the town comes a band of about thirty ghosts wearing flowers on their clothing. One is a beautiful, white-haired woman with a long sword. Another is an attractive man in a tuxedo. He carries a gun. They enter the battle.

Then, from the forest come lizards. Hundreds of them! They begin clawing at the bad ghosts and nipping at their transparent skin. Erdu does his best to destroy some of these, but his side is failing fast.

The white-haired ghost sees your collection of travelers and calls out, "Visitors to this village! We appreciate your help! If you wish to keep fighting, we thank you! If not, try to gain entry to the graveyard, where the land can never be disturbed by violence!"

There is a graveyard just to the southwest of this battle.

Just then, though no one else sees, Mrs. Nibbles leaps out of your coat and dashes into the fire.

i would watch out for that cat, she seemed to want to eat lizards and is way beyond my control

Remembering an almost-lost ability from long ago, you begin to shrink. And shrink. And shrink. You're tiny!

The translator shouts, "Keep shaking the trees and launching berries! We need some berry cover fire!"

Moving as quickly as a tiny person can go, you scurry over to Urthstripe, who is still standing trapped. You jump onto his foot.

And then – Woosh! You're big again.

This is a surprise for Erdu, who jumps and lets go of Urthstripe. You pull your friend back to safety.

Wow!

Nahh, I think I'll stick around. Maybe you should try soap-flinging? See if that helps any?
Quote:
Wondering what just happened to unfreeze the ghosts and subdivide Erdu I momentarily pause my berry pelting. About that time the forest around me comes alive with movement. As the forest turbulence enters the circle of firelit battleground I see it is formed of hundreds of lizards. Lizards who tear into the bad ghosts like sharks.

Hearing an offer to free myself of the battle I chuckle, eyeing the chaos surrounding myself and my compatriots. I wonder briefly how the lovely lady thinks ANY of us can get through the throng of fighting and make it to the graveyard.

Nope, I think, in for a penny in for a pound. I came here to help and help I will. I continue pelting fruit at ghosts hoping that I don't accidentally clip any of our side and dance nimbly around our lizard friends avoiding stepping on them as the well-dressed captains urge their battalion of ghosts onward.

Somewhere through the haze I realize our coordinated attack worked as Kendra, Translator Extrodinaire, has successfully retrieved the bottle of soap from our fallen friend. I find myself wondering just what soap will be able to do to the ghosts when I remember I myself am throwing berries at them. Once again I chuckle and renew my attack.

Should I stay or should I go?
Not just a cool song lyric

Very exciting! Hmm, shall we stay and fight or make a dash to the cemetery? Here's what TV sent me:
Quote:
You assess the situation. Erdu = bad guy with a thing about fire. Flannel-wearing ghost = manly entrepreneur and possible networking contact. Good. You've sorted that out.

"Sammy! Guys! A little help here?" Urthstripe calls. "I'd rather not be damned, but if it comes down to me or the Governor, I trust you will do the right thing."

You tell the travelers with you to keep up the work with the fruits on trees. That seems to be working at least a little, and every little bit counts.

Tossing blue fruits for cover, you hurry to the fallen ghost and begin to rummage through his things. That soap has to be here for a reason. Why would he bring it? You snatch it up and call out to the lizards of Transition Village. Hopefully they hear your cry.

The frozen ghosts begin to move again, and the battle becomes more intense. Ghosts are being ripped to pieces all around you, and their bodies are vanishing into – who knows where.

Then you dash back to your fellow travelers. Well, if the soap isn't useful, at least you now have another business opportunity.

From the corner of your eye, you see the Great Wizard of the Neighborhood. He looks as though he is whispering something at Erdu.

Suddenly, something disturbs many of the fighting spirits.

You suggest the church. It's the only place you can think of where the good ghosts might be safe. The woman frowns. "I just left them. They don't seem to be doing much other than standing around and waiting to die –" but Billy stops her.

"Mom," he says. "he's our friend."

She sighs. "Fine. We'll go to the church. Please keep us safe, traveler. Billy is important to many of us."

As she and her son ready themselves, you head over to the place where Nessa died. The horseshoe rests in the charred grass. You pick it up. It's warm… but maybe that's just from the fire? You put it in your pocket.

Not far away is a wildflower, which you also retrieve in case you need some proof of your allegiance. It's light pink and quite small, but it will have to do.

You ask the woman's name.

"Unsound," she says. "I am Mrs. Unsound." She takes Billy by the hand. There you are with two ghosts whose afterlives have been entrusted to you. Suddenly this feels like a lot of responsibility.

"We're ready," she tells you.

It's a short trip back to the church, but you keep an eye out the entire way for anything odd. There is something strange – a motor car is parked outside!

Mrs. Unsound gasps. "The Governor?" She and Billy run toward the church. You're about to follow them in when a pack of nearly twenty ghosts runs up – some of them on horseback – and bolt the door shut after Mrs. Unsound and Billy run in. You stand back, unseen and horrified. They are setting fire to the church! The horses snort flames from their nostrils, and the ground outside is beginning to smoke.

Oh, poop. I bet they planned for me to send them to the church. Let's hope Nessa's horseshoe is like some form of Ghoul-B-Gone. It worked okay on Mrs Swelter... hmm.

Is that you in the car, diszaster/Jane?

Koli bows to you. "Lady Rat Leader," he says, "I am in your debt."

Then Koli turns to the rats. "And yours, as well, my tiny brethren."

Gathering the weapons and another item from the chest, Koli tells you, "We need to get out of here and quickly. I have a feeling this is only the beginning. I will scout ahead. Could you ask your loyal friends if they know anything about a way to get out of here quickly?"

Koli prepares another arrow and then cautiously approaches the left door, crouching. He goes inside.

You look around at the destruction. So sad that these ghosts have destroyed their afterlives over – whatever it is they believe in. You wish there had been a more peaceful resolution.

Maybe you can help end this senseless fighting once you get above ground. That would be wonderful.

You turn to the rats and ask them for their help.

"Your friend has just entered one of the many underground tunnels in Transition Village. It will take a while to reach the place you need to go, but you can get there undetected. However," one of the rats eyes your heavy weapon. "There is a faster way to reach a destination, if you are willing. That mace you hold is a transporter device. Think of the place where you want the person to go, and then… hit him as hard as you can on the head."

sooo.. I should hit you hu.. and we're heading for the church too..
(I don't think I can hit myself though haha)

Elsewhere in the Village: Part 2

Quote:
You thank Lairosiel and the rats, though Lairosiel looks rather sad. Then you gather the weapons and the life bead from the chest.

Preparing your own weapon once again, you head into the left door as cautiously as you can. It's a tunnel. The area is small and dark, and every move you make echoes.

Just behind you, you hear Lairosiel speak to the animals.

"Thanks for your help again, dear Ghost Rats. One last question, then you can go hide somewhere if you want to - I don't know how the other ghosts and travelers will react if they see you. Do you know any fast way out of here?" She pauses. "If not, we have to think about an alternative as fast as possible!"

In the distance, you hear voices.

"What is that?"

"Someone is following us!"

"Yaddle?"

"Couldn't be! He gave us instructions for if we're followed."

"Then let's get to the church now!"

Behind you, you hear the rats answer their leader. "Your friend has just entered one of the many underground tunnels in Transition Village. It will take a while to reach the place you need to go, but you can get there undetected. However," the rat hesitates. "There is a faster way to reach a destination, if you are willing. That mace you hold is a transporter device. Think of the place where you want the person to go, and then… hit him as hard as you can on the head."

To the Church! With Haste!

Quote:
Hearing voices ahead I stifle a curse.

'The church? What do they plan to do there? Nothing good I'll bet'

Intent on charging in to stop the rebel ghosts I pause as I hear the words of the rats.

'I was wondering about that. Glad I was able to take Yaddle out of the fight. I wonder if he was the ghost behind the rebellion or just another lackey of the real culprit'

I quickly decide on a course of action, given those in front of me are heading out at Yaddle's direction I trust they are up to no good and need to beat them to their destination. I fire off 3 arrows in rapid succession down the hall towards the voices, hoping that I am lucky enough to disable one within the range of the longbow, if not at least the attack should keep them moving away from us.

That done I turn and dash back into the room.

"Lairosiel, more ghosts, heading to the Church, need to head them off."

I eye the mace and groan.

'Is this some twisted karmic debt I'm paying?'

"Focus on the church and hit me."

I cringe slightly

"Later we may need to use that to get back into my smithy, I think there's some armor there that's needed" I say softly

'I do hope things calm down a little after this'

I take a good solid grip on the gathered weapons, might have friends in need of a weapon when I get there, and nod slightly to Lairosiel.

"Pull back towards the well entrance, keep your rat friends back. There's still a fairly solid protection circle of the ghost repellent disguised there if you need to retreat. If not just focus on that ring when you hit any bad ghosts... the powder should do the rest.."

Okay, so at least on of us is able to travel fast to the church, I don't think I can hit myself with a mace (or any other item hihi) as hard as I could.
I bow before the rats. "I gonna make sure your help will be credited."
Slowly I walk over to the left door in which Koli has vanished. "Koli," I whisper. "Ko~oooli.. come back, I have to hit you with the mace!"
Wow, that sounds ridiculous, even by my standards. But I trust the rats - they proved their allegiance.
Thinking of the plan, I chuckle a little.

uh oh....

Quote:
Your resolve is set, though you are somber. If this is the last thing you can do for Pat, then you'll do it.

Without fear this time, you jump into your motorcar and open the glove compartment. Fine. You'll take that bloody hand rag. What's it doing in there, anyway?

Upon closer inspection, you see that someone has written on the rag in black pen. It's bled (no pun intended) a little, but you can just make it out:

ZGUAZQWZ: ZLDO AZDBRL, RNBM. QZWZRRLDE MB DZGUGZ.

… Whatever that means.

With the photograph in hand, you floor it over to the church and park outside.

All is quiet in this part of Transition Village. The air is eerily still, and it feels as though no one is around for miles. Of course, this is a ghost town. There could be an entire party of people right here, and how would you know?

You walk inside.

There you see many ghosts, mostly women, some children, and one old man. Many of the women are crying. The old man asks without looking at you, "Did you find Billy?" Then he sees that you are apparently not who he expected. "I am sorry, miss. What business do you have here?"

Just then a ghost woman and her son come dashing into the church. "Governor!" she cries, but then she stops short. She looks around. The Governor is not here.

"I saw his car parked outside," she says.

This is apparently not the most exciting information to the group, as they all rush forward to embrace the child who came in with her. "Billy!" they cry. "You are safe!"

And then the church door slams shut. You can hear that something is bolting it from the outside. Everyone looks around in alarm. The unmistakable smell of smoke begins to penetrate the room.

Then there is panic.

"We will be burned!"

"They have taken the church!"

"There is no way out!"

You think hard. Is there anything you can do to draw up a way for these ghosts – and yourself – to escape?

Terrible things are happening all around you. At first it's difficult to make up your mind what to do.

The translator shouts, "Keep shaking the trees and launching berries! We need some berry cover fire!"

Finally, you come up with a plan.

You turn to the Wizard and ask him to create a diversion.

Then you take the fruits and smear their juices all over your body. This has an odd effect. At first you feel sticky and cold, but then your heart begins to race. Your fingers begin to twitch. It's as if you can't stop moving – and moving fast.

The frozen ghosts begin to move again, and the battle becomes more intense. Ghosts are being ripped to pieces all around you, and their bodies are vanishing into – who knows where.

You throw yourself into the fight, aiming yourself at any unfriendly ghost you see. Many recoil upon touching you, crying out in alarm, though they don't seem to understand what has happened to them. Others are un-phased by the fruit juice, but your sheer strength knocks them backward. They, too, seem unaware of your presence.

How is this possible? You look at your own hands and arms. You aren't invisible. Instead, you're moving faster than they can see.

Soooo, apparently I'm like The Flash now. Laughing I'll probably suffer a massive heart attack or something... Hey, if anyone else wants super-speed, cover yourselves in Frenghif fruit!

My reply:
Quote:
The battle is finally turning in our favor, I think as reptile and ghostly reinforcements arrive. I enthusiastically let out a war whoop. But to leave at this point? Heh, even if I wanted to I feel like I can't stop moving, or fighting. I'm gonna see this through to the end, whatever that may be.

The Wizard did a wonderful job in distracting Erdu. What is that old saying... divide and conquer? "Thanks!" I call out to the Wizard as I continue pummeling rebel ghosts. I keep my eye out for any nearby Erdu replicas, ready to abandon my current targets and kick him into oblivion whenever I get the chance.

It's made of Frenghif iron, so some ghosts should be killed/injured on contact with it. Use it well. *salute*

When you're all washed up
Because here comes the calvary!

I'm wondering if we'll need to revive Earl later? I'm trying to pace the use of soap incase we do.

What my response is:
Quote:
Turning to the white-haired ghost whom I think must be part of the Governor's army, I say, "To protect the Governor and all of the village, let us fight together!"

Encouraging our lizard friends, I say in lizard, "We are stronger together! "

I take a whiff of manly scrub soap and notice it's a sizable amount. Perhaps I can take a sample back to a few of my reptile friends to try as an exotic import! Stowing away a little for later, I take some of it and aim for Erdu.

"Time to clean up your act!" I cry out to a group of the tiny Erdu, launching a bit of the soap in their direction.

Alternating between flinging berries and soap, I still try to shake the trees gently so more berries plop down. I spare a glance at the flannel-shirted ghost and wonder if there's any way to revive him so he can join us to fight off the rebellion.

At least, I should get his contact information about where to get this fabulous soap.

This just got intense O.O

Quote:
This place is insane, one-hundred percent. No kidding.

Your fellow traveler turns to the ghost and says, "Thank you for the information. Be careful, and good luck." Apparently she is going to fight.

Then she turns to you. "Hey, if you don't want to fight, go with this gentleman," she says, motioning toward the helpful ghost, "you might be able to help the inhabitants who don't want to fight. But it's up to you, of course."

The glory of battle calls to you. Pulling out the bottle of wine, you smash it and hold it up. This will be your weapon. You're going in.

Your fellow traveler is ahead of you. She has no weapon at all that you can see, and she's slinking ever closer to the fiery battle by the circle of leafless trees.

One traveler lies pinned under a massive tree branch in the middle of the fray.

"SAMMY, NO!" one traveler cries. "Alright, everybody. We gotta protect these trees. You heard the dictionary. Last line of defense and all that. I'm going to go rescue Sammy. He's too important to us."

"Yeah! I saw the dead chick!" a traveler calls to the person under the branch. "She looked an awful like this person over here." You look. She is pointing at your companion. The two of you stand up and walk into the battle zone.

Then the traveler yells, "Hey! The Wizard needs help!!" She dashes over to the fallen traveler and pushes with all of her might to lift the branch. It's too heavy.

Your companion goes directly to them, though there is dangerous fire all around, and neither of you is safe. She and the other traveler work together and easily throw the branch off to the side.

A third living voice shouts from one of the nearby trees, "Aim for Erdu and those who would protect Erdu! That ghost is the head of the rebel party and I bet my stylish yet sensible work heels he killed that poor girl. Keep up the fight, we should have brave reptile re-enforcements soon!"

Several other travelers spring into action by throwing fruits at the ghosts. Some ghosts fall backward, their transparent skin apparently burning. Others seem un-phased. They carry on fighting with the ghosts who wear flowers.

Another traveler gets caught by Erdu. He holds him still.

Then the traveler who was under the branch looks at a collection of bad ghosts and says, "Freeze them."

This works for several ghosts, mostly bad. They stop moving altogether apart from their eyes, which look confused and dart wildly around in their transparent heads.

Unfortunately, Erdu is just fine. "I have your friend," he calls. "Your spell won't last long, anyway, but unfreeze my people now, and I won't damn this traveler… right away."

In the distance, you see another ghost running over. He wears a floppy flannel shirt and has what looks like a friendly face that has become very serious just for this situation. He calls out to Erdu, "I'm gonna wash your mouth out with soap!" He holds up a bottle of… something. Does that say Sticky Itchers Shower Scrub?

The new ghost comes closer. Unfrozen and uninjured ghosts continue to battle nearby as the flames climb higher. The bad ones are winning so far. There just aren't enough of the Governor's supporters here.

"I had plenty of Civil War reenactment training, and I'm ready to use every bit of it on you if you don't let these people go!" the new ghost says.

Erdu laughs and loosens his grip on Urthstripe. He lifts one hand and lets loose another explosion. It hits the new ghost in the face. He falls backward, and his transparent body lies motionless on the ground, his hand still gripping a bottle of soap.

Sorry for the long post, thought I should still post it.

"Which one of you is the wife of Shag?" I quickly hand the photograph to the person identifies herself. "I have to give this to you."

I remember that purple crayon I found in the governor's car, and I draw a slightly larger-than-me-sized door on the wall of the Church.

"Cmon, people-ghosts, we have to go!"

The door that I draw, for some reason, seems to have a face. But I ignore that. It is most definitely a door to the outside, complete with peephole and mail-slot.

I reach out and turn the knob of the door.

Oh whoops. That was me in the car, Fractal. Now I'm in the church, but hopefully will be out of it.
