[UPDATE] UM 9/14

NO GIRLS ALLOWED

In China, there's an alarming trend among newborns. There are approximately 118 males to 100 females born. Normally this should be close to a 1:1 ratio. Experts say that the Chinese ratio is due to a high number of female babies being killed by their parents upon being born. The reason is that China limits couples to one child. Parents know that their children will be responsible for taking care of them as they become aged, so they would rather have a son, who is able to earn more.

Thankfully there has recently been a push to stop killing babies, and give them up for adoption instead. This is why it's quite easy to adopt a Chinese girl. Their orphanages are full of girls. Adopting a boy is next to impossible.

300 BLIND MICE

A graduate student was working on her thesis project - a 6 month long experiment that involved raising 300 mice in total darkness - in a little-used room in the biology building. Two weeks before the culmination of six long months of work, maintenance workers removed the air conditioning unit from the wall of the room from outside, thereby exposing it to bright sunlight. Sighing, the student started writing out another order for 300 mice.

WHEN COME BACK, BRING PIE

A U.S. Navy recruit was arrested for assaulting his commanding officer. His weapon of assault was a chocolate cream pie. The sentencing followed a trial at which Soupy Sales testified as an expert witness. He said he had received over 19,000 pies in the face during his career, and did not believe that it constituted an assault. The court was unimpressed and sentenced him to 6 months in jail, rank demotion, and a fine.

The photo in the chinese girl story seems to have been edited.

At the top of the photo - when opened in Notepad, there are two seperate words

Ducky and Adobe

Adobe suggests the photo has been edited, possibly just to be resized, but what does ducky mean? I've tried ducky.html in various places to o avail.

Anyone?

Ducky just means it was done in an Adobe product. That's their keyword. Neither means it's been edited, though... it could have been captured/scanned into Adobe.

Fair enough then.

Cheers!

This story is really bothering me. I think there's something there, but I can't find it. It reads almost like a word problem in math. Also, notice that 6, 300 and 300 are numerical while two and six are written. I've tried 1800, 1806, 50, 58, 90000 and about everything else I can think to do to the numbers mathmatically with .html, not to mention spelling the numbers.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Y'know...After a particular craptastic day at work, seeing the phrase "When Come Back, Bring PIE." Managed to brighten my day incredibly.

has anyone else noticed the use of numbers in each of the updates? INCLUDING the reference to "pie" in the title of the third one.

a math puzzle, i suspect.

We've seen that 1 of the 3 urban legends is usually relevant. In this case, I think it's the mice one.

SPEC: After being isolated in the darkness of dread house for 6 weeks, the contestants were killed by exposure to light.

Slighly wild, I know, but.. you never know with this.

Quite a bid wilder, but.

Not knowing who the hell Soupy Sales was, I googled him and found a snopes urban legend entry about him. But it's just about him sneaking hidden dirty messages in to his skits, and seeing as we're knee-deep in hidden messages already, I doubt it's really hinting at anything.

As a writer/editor, I can tell you that the correct way to write out number is any number under 100 should be written out, like twenty-six or forty-four, and any number 100 or over should be numerical, like 369 or 600. That's just a grammar thing, so I doubt it is a clue.

Not sure what to do with this

What I noticed when I read the article about the Chinese girls is that the word "impossible" is set out under the image of the doll. I also noticed that the doll is bald, which seems odd, but the costume is exquisitely detailed. I don't know enough about the costumes to be able to date or authenicate it.

I wonder why a story that is basically true is an urban myth?
